Chapter 43:
Chapter 43:
Compared to straightforward people, everyone despises hypocrites even more.
After all, you never know when a hypocrite will betray you.
The writers and directors in the entertainment industry were experienced. They had seen plenty of two-faced people, and at this moment, they found Jiang Feng’s blunt character oddly refreshing.
Even though people disliked Jiang Feng, at least he said what he thought openly. It was better than being sneaky and underhanded.
On camera, Jiang Feng sat on his bed, his hair a mess, his face showing clear displeasure. He looked half-asleep, with no intention of getting up.
“Jiang Feng, we need to leave soon. It’s time,” the director reminded him, glancing at his watch.
“Stop rushing me. You’re annoying,” Jiang Feng grumbled.
“…”
“Ugh,” he cursed under his breath, clearly irritated. Still, after glancing at the female choreographer, he reluctantly rubbed his hair and rolled out of bed.
While brushing his teeth, he muttered in frustration, “What’s with all the rushing? We’re only a few minutes behind. I haven’t even had breakfast. We’re on break—no school, so why act like the dean? What, are you going to give me a raise for getting up early?”
The director was speechless.
It made sense, though.
Although Jiang Feng’s words were full of complaints, the director and cameraman couldn’t help but smile. They found it impossible to get angry.
Suddenly—
“Xiao Feng, how can you say that?” Jiang Nan cut in, sounding concerned. “You agreed to follow the rules yesterday. These are the show’s regulations, you can’t be so inconsiderate. You might be lazy at home, but this is a show…” He sounded sincere but secretly relished the opportunity to make himself look good.
He knew the show would portray him as the gentle, responsible older brother. Meanwhile, Jiang Feng, with his bad temper and laziness, would surely get scolded by the audience.
“As long as you can keep brushing your teeth, I don’t care,” Jiang Feng snapped, his face dark with irritation. “So what if I’m lazy? My dad’s awesome! Why should I bother working hard? Who made you the police of the Pacific?”
“I’m just looking out for you.” Jiang Nan said, trying to sound concerned.
“Looking out for me?” Jiang Feng scoffed. “Don’t pretend. If you really cared, you’d have woken me up privately, not scolded me in front of everyone. What’s the big deal? I’m not causing any trouble for the country!”
Jiang Feng was both lazy and unapologetic.
Even Jiang Yuan, who had come to the door ready to scold his son, was taken aback. When he heard Jiang Feng proudly say, “My dad’s awesome,” his anger vanished. Instead, a wave of pride swelled up inside him.
Hearing his son praise him like that made him feel good.
“Not bad,” Jiang Yuan muttered, fighting the urge to smile. “Son, you got up early today. Keep it up with the show. Maybe next time, try not to sleep until noon.”
Jiang Nan: “What??”
Director: “… What?”
Try not to sleep until noon? Was the bar really set that low?
“Oh, fine. Whatever,” Jiang Feng grumbled, clearly still annoyed.
Jiang Yuan, undeterred, continued proudly, “Listen, be good, and I’ll buy you a car! You’ve wanted one, right? Behave yourself, and it’s yours!”
Jiang Yuan was thrilled. His son hadn’t talked back today! For once, Jiang Feng had listened. His heart swelled with emotion.
My son wasn’t a lost cause after all!
Though Jiang Feng’s tone was still sour and his face showed little joy, he had agreed. That alone was enough to move Jiang Yuan.
Meanwhile, Jiang Nan was dumbfounded.
No matter how well he behaved, as soon as Jiang Feng did the bare minimum, like waking up earlier than usual, he got rewarded with a car?
Jiang Nan felt a surge of anger so strong it nearly made him choke.
But Jiang Feng, washing his face, allowed himself a small, satisfied smirk. Everything was going just as he had expected.
For years, everyone had seen Jiang Feng as an unruly child—someone who drank, smoked, and went clubbing, who played games but refused to study. He had constantly rebelled against his father and never yielded.
Jiang Yuan had grown used to this version of his son, with expectations set impossibly low. So, when Jiang Feng made even the smallest effort, it touched his father deeply.
It’s like this: a good person, when they make one mistake, is easily condemned by everyone. But when a bad person does even a single good thing, it’s a whole different story.
