Chapter 264: Chapter 263: Doctor Strange (Part 2)
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The battle between Daniel and the Ant King, Meruem, caused massive destruction to the surrounding terrain. Unlike the earlier fight where Meruem passively endured Netero's attacks, this time, Meruem actively fought back, and the damage was significant.
As the battle progressed, Meruem's combat skills rapidly improved. His initially clumsy attacks became increasingly precise and powerful.
"What a terrifying Chimera Ant," Daniel thought, marveling at Meruem's rapid growth in battle experience. If not for Daniel's overwhelming power advantage, the fight could have taken a dangerous turn if allowed to drag on.
Daniel had chosen to face Meruem head-on to gauge his current strength accurately. He wanted to see if he could withstand an Admiral's might in the One Piece world using only his physical prowess and Nen. While Meruem's strength wasn't quite on par with that of an Admiral, he still provided a good benchmark for Daniel.
"This ends now. Take this: Frenzied Strikes!" Daniel declared, bringing his hands together as he activated his Thousand-Armed Guanyin. Despite its name, Daniel's technique was still far from the power of Netero's Hundred-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva, as he could only control about twenty arms.
Even so, twenty long, golden arms, each over six meters in length, were enough to prevent Meruem from closing the distance.
They say "a pair of fists can't fight four hands," and in this case, the saying proved true as Daniel's flurry of strikes overwhelmed Meruem. The Ant King, despite his rapid improvement, found himself on the defensive.
For about a minute, Daniel pummeled Meruem relentlessly, reducing the once-mighty King to a battered mess. His limbs were twisted, and his skull cracked open.
"Goodbye," Daniel whispered as he delivered the final blow, two giant golden palms coming together to crush Meruem between them. The powerful burst of Nen was enough to finally bring the Ant King down.
"I'm sorry," Daniel murmured, looking at Meruem's dying, clear-eyed gaze. If Meruem had been one of the Royal Guards instead of the King, Daniel might have spared him. But as the King, Meruem represented too great a threat to humanity—a threat Daniel couldn't ignore.
As Daniel watched, a strange Nen began to emanate from Meruem's corpse, catching him off guard. He immediately went on high alert. This was the phenomenon of posthumous Nen, where a person's will could linger after death, potentially making them even stronger.
However, to Daniel's surprise, the Nen didn't cling to Meruem's body but drifted towards the Republic of East Gorteau.
Neither Daniel nor Netero moved to intercept the Nen. They silently observed as it floated away toward the palace.
"King!" Suddenly, a figure flew down from the sky—it was Shaiapouf. Upon seeing the King's lifeless body, he recklessly charged toward it.
"I'll handle this. You can't afford to expend any more energy right now," Daniel said, summoning his Thousand-Armed Guanyin once again. Two massive golden palms slammed together, crushing Shaiapouf instantly.
So focused was Shaiapouf on his King that he didn't even notice Daniel and Netero until it was too late. Not that it would have mattered; he was doomed the moment he appeared.
As Daniel and Netero approached the palace, they heard a series of explosions and a feline scream of anguish.
"Is this also posthumous Nen?" Daniel was surprised to see Neferpitou standing once more, her body emanating an intense aura. She had died earlier but was now back, stronger than before.
Morau, along with his two disciples, Gon, and Killua, was in a dire situation. Killua had lost his left arm, Shoot was also missing a hand, and Knuckle lay unconscious on the ground. Gon was nowhere to be seen. Only Morau remained, struggling to hold off Neferpitou.
It turned out that Morau's team had managed to defeat Neferpitou through careful planning and Knuckle's Hakoware ability. However, none of them had expected her to resurrect with greater power.
The posthumous Neferpitou was not only stronger but also more rational. The original plan had worked partly because Neferpitou had been too concerned about the King's safety to fight effectively. If Shaiapouf had joined forces with her earlier, Morau's group would have been wiped out.
Seeing the situation, Daniel rushed forward, not allowing Netero to act. Netero had already exhausted his Nen in the battle with Meruem, and any further action would come at the cost of his life.
"So this is Terpsichora," Daniel thought, as he blocked Neferpitou's attack aimed at Morau. With Daniel and Netero back, Morau finally relaxed, collapsing to the ground.
His smoke ability had allowed him to create decoys, which was the only reason he had survived this long.
"Using puppetry to control one's own body? That's quite an interesting ability. Let's see how it works," Daniel mused, choosing not to kill Neferpitou right away. Instead, he parried her attacks while analyzing her Nen.
While Neferpitou's Doctor Blythe ability was impressive, it was of little use to Daniel, who had access to superior healing methods. His *Ope Ope no Mi* powers far surpassed Doctor Blythe's medical capabilities.
However, Terpsichora intrigued Daniel. The ability allowed Neferpitou to push her body beyond its natural limits, essentially putting herself in a state of absolute rationality, unaffected by emotions or pain.
"In theory, this could be quite useful," Daniel thought. But after a brief examination, he decided it was time to end the battle. He dismantled Neferpitou's body, dispersing the posthumous Nen in the process.
Even posthumous Nen required a physical vessel to exist, and without a body, Neferpitou's presence quickly faded away.
"Where is everyone?" Daniel wondered as he returned to the palace only to find it empty. Eventually, he located Netero, Morau, and Komugi deeper inside the palace.
Netero and Morau were staring intently at a chessboard in front of Komugi.
"Hmm, the Nen has attached itself to the chessboard," Daniel noticed immediately.
"Where are the others?"
"Nobunaga took them to be treated," Netero replied. Though Nobunaga hadn't participated in the battle, he hadn't strayed far either. In fact, he had saved Gon's life. Had Nobunaga not pulled Gon into the Four-Dimensional Apartment at the crucial moment, the young boy, bent on facing Neferpitou head-on, would have likely perished.
Without borrowing from his future power, there was no way Gon could have matched Neferpitou at this stage.
The emotionally-driven Gon had recklessly sought to avenge Killua, who had lost an arm trying to save him.
"It's finally over." With the Ant King and his Royal Guards dead, Netero and Morau called for reinforcements from the Hunter Association. Soon, a fleet of airships filled the skies over East Gorteau, accompanied by officials from the V5.
As for Komugi, Netero made sure she was taken care of. The chessboard harboring Meruem's lingering spirit was also taken away. Perhaps one day, Meruem would reappear in the form of a Nen beast.
What happened next in East Gorteau was no longer the Hunter Association's concern. Despite Netero's accomplishment in defeating the Ant King, he was harshly reprimanded by the V5. It seemed inevitable that Netero would have to shoulder the blame for the Chimera Ant disaster.
In the original story, Netero had sacrificed himself to take down the Ant King, which made him a hero. But now, with Netero still alive, those who hadn't witnessed Meruem's power firsthand were unlikely to understand the true danger he had posed. It was like the Supernovas in the One Piece world challenging the Yonko before even entering the New World—they simply didn't grasp the difference in power.
Given the massive casualties caused by the Chimera Ants, the truth could not be concealed. The V5 officials would never take the fall, so Netero was the most convenient scapegoat.
In theory, Netero could have pinned the blame on someone else, like Vice Chairman Pariston—a perfect candidate for such a role. But Netero wasn't a politician, and in the end, he would likely step down as Chairman of the Hunter Association.
Daniel knew the gist of these events, but he didn't concern himself too much. After returning to the Hunter Association's city, he immediately went to check on Killua and used his Nen abilities to reattach his arm.
The Association's hospital could have reattached Killua and Shoot's limbs as well, but their methods would have required a lengthy recovery period. With Daniel's intervention, Killua would be almost fully recovered in about a week, thanks to the natural healing properties of Nen.
This was without even using Doctor Blythe's abilities. If those had been used, the recovery would have been even faster.
As for Knuckle and Gon, they had suffered internal injuries—damaged organs and broken bones. Since their condition wasn't too severe, Daniel didn't feel the need to intervene.
"A Hunter Association election, huh?" Daniel muttered, shaking his head at the latest news. It was time for him to leave the Hunter world. He had spent enough time here and now planned to bring Ada and Robin to this world to teach them Nen.
The election this
time around was different from the original story. Though the voting process involved all the Hunters, just like before, the situation had changed. Netero was still alive, Gon wasn't critically injured, and Leorio had no reason to cause a stir. The next Chairman was almost certainly going to be either Pariston or Cheadle, both of whom were Three-Star Hunters with similar achievements.
Given these circumstances, Daniel could already guess who the next Chairman would be. In normal times, Netero might have indulged in a little chaos, like appointing Pariston as Vice Chairman. But in this situation, he wouldn't risk playing games.
"Looks like Voldemort has been defeated. What a happy ending," Daniel noted, glancing at the latest edition of The Daily Prophet in the Harry Potter world.
"Robin is already putting her new skills to good use," Daniel observed, noting how Robin had begun using a magical quill that wrote automatically, making record-keeping a breeze.
"You actually came back," Ada remarked, her expression slightly annoyed as she noticed Daniel's return.
"I've brought something you'll love," Daniel said, presenting the Elixir of Youth he had acquired from the witch.
"Is this for real?" Ada and Robin's eyes lit up with excitement as Daniel explained the potion's effects.
"I've already tested it—it works. But you shouldn't take too many. Decide on the age you want to remain at, and then use a few pills accordingly," Daniel advised.
Though Daniel's apparent age hadn't changed much, he had lived longer than either of them due to his time in other worlds.
"Don't worry about that," Ada replied, quickly grabbing the entire stash of Elixir of Youth.
"Wait a minute, leave some for me. I still need to study it," Daniel interjected.
"You can make more of this?" Ada asked, surprised.
"With further research, I probably could. But remember, a person can only consume up to a hundred of these pills," Daniel confirmed.
"You're not planning to sell this stuff, are you?" Ada's expression turned serious, and Robin's did the same.
"I'm not that stupid. This is for personal use only. I'm not in need of money," Daniel reassured them, shaking his head.
"Good."
If word got out about the Elixir of Youth, it could cause a global crisis. In the Marvel world, someone might even drop a nuke over it—this was no joke.
Ada and Robin quickly took the Elixir of Youth into another room. They emerged a long time later, both looking drastically different. They had always been beautiful, but now they were even more radiant, each with a unique charm that left Daniel momentarily speechless.
Robin soon found an excuse to leave, leaving Daniel alone in the room with Ada.
"Here, you keep the rest," Ada said, handing the remaining pills to Daniel before leaning in close, her breath warm against his ear, filling the air with her familiar, intoxicating scent.
In that moment, Daniel wrapped his arms around Ada, lifted her into his arms, and carried her to the bedroom.
