Warhammer: Saiyan Adopted by the Wolf King

Chapter 81: Chapter 79: The Thousand Sons’ Flesh Mutation

Axis could only shake his head helplessly upon hearing this, his old man really knew how to make things difficult for him.

Still, since he currently needed help from Magnus, Axis was willing to return the favor in any way he could.

But that depended on whether Magnus's gene-seed could actually be affected by the power of Ki.

If it couldn't, then Axis would have no way to help.

"I've heard of this energy called Ki," Magnus said, "When I spoke with Father, he once told me that it's a mysterious force much like psychic power. So far, only Axis has been able to wield it."

"It really is incredible! I can't share the details with you, but how about this: Tomorrow, we'll perform an Astartes modification surgery. Axis, you'll be present at the scene, and we'll see if it can succeed." Russ spoke up.

"Alright! Then I'll be relying on you, my brother, and you too, Axis. Thank you both for your help." Magnus nodded to the two of them.

After the banquet, Axis, Russ, and Kasha were arranged by Magnus to stay in the palace.

As for Magnus himself, he personally went to select tomorrow's subject for the gene-seed surgery.

He truly hoped that, this time, the problem plaguing his Legion could be solved.

If they could solve the low success rate of the surgeries, then perhaps this power called Ki could even address the mutations afflicting his gene-sons' bodies.

And if that were possible, maybe he wouldn't have to turn to desperate measures!

Even though his father had warned him repeatedly not to trust the lies of the Warp, not to trust any denizens of the Immaterium…

Truthfully, that blue-feathered birdman had found him even before his father did.

Magnus had followed his father's advice; even though he'd interacted with the blue birdman, he never trusted a word he said, no matter what temptations or promises were offered. Magnus remained unmoved.

"Father, I heard what happened today. Did you really reveal the Legion's secrets to outsiders?"

Just as Magnus was deep in thought, a tall man, over two meters, clad in power armor and holding a psychic staff walked over.

This was none other than Ahriman, the most powerful psyker in the Thousand Sons after Magnus himself.

Ahriman had been born on Terra and, long ago, had completed his Astartes modification in the palace atop the Himalayas, becoming one of the Thousand Sons and awakening formidable psychic power.

He had then followed the Emperor's Great Crusade, witnessing firsthand the rise of that great Emperor.

He had also personally seen his mutated brethren during the Crusade…

He had watched as they were erased by the Emperor himself.

Ahriman's own body had mutated as well, but unlike the others, he'd endured the mutation and gained even greater power, his flesh becoming even more stable.

Three years ago, the Thousand Sons finally reunited with their Primarch, who had promised to solve their mutations.

But three years had passed, and the Legion's flesh-mutation problem remained unresolved.

Worse yet, a new problem had emerged: the success rate of Space Marine surgery in the Thousand Sons had plummeted.

Now, their numbers were pitifulm, nothing compared to the other Astartes Legions. How could they possibly participate in the Great Crusade under these circumstances?

The Emperor had only given them seven more years to prepare!

But today, Ahriman had heard that their Primarch had revealed the Legion's gene-seed issues to outsiders. Did the Primarch not understand the consequences this could bring?

"A few days ago, my psychic foresight glimpsed the future. My brother Russ and his son Axis could solve the problems plaguing our Thousand Sons. That's why I welcomed them so warmly and asked for their help," Magnus said, looking at Ahriman.

"Fathe… our Thousand Sons' flesh mutations… is something outsiders can never be allowed to know about," Ahriman started hesitatingly, but ended his sentence firmly,.

"I know. I didn't say anything about the gene-seed causing psychic awakenings and flesh mutations. I only mentioned that our surgical success rate is extremely low.

"They don't know the specifics," Magnus replied.

He wasn't a fool.

Of course, he wouldn't reveal details about his gene-sons' flesh mutations.

"But Father…"

"No 'buts!' I trust my psychic foresight. I cannot be wrong," Magnus waved a hand, stopping Ahriman from saying anything further.

Ahriman opened his mouth, but in the end could only sigh in resignation and turn to leave the Primarch's palace.

Meanwhile, in his guest room, Axis found himself unable to sleep at all.

If tomorrow, his Ki really could affect Magnus's gene-seed and increase the success rate of the Astartes neophytes' surgeries…

Would Magnus, or even Russ, suggest to the Emperor that Axis should stay with the Thousand Sons to help them modify their gene-seed?

If Magnus really made that proposal, then the Emperor and Russ would very likely agree.

After all, this would mean saving an entire Astartes Legion.

But staying at Magnus's side was extremely dangerous.

The four Chaos Gods, especially that blue-winged bastard, placed great importance on this particular Primarch and had long been watching him in secret.

Remaining by Magnus's side would definitely be dangerous for Axis, so no matter what, that simply wasn't an option.

If he didn't stay, then he would just have to create another being capable of using Ki.

He only hoped Magnus could truly solve his own problems.

Axis could use Magnus's blood to cultivate a new Saibaman.

He was even a bit curious about what kind of Saibaman would be created from the blood of this Pony.

Would that Saibaman awaken psychic powers in the future?

Probably not, after all, the Saibamen made with Russ's blood hadn't turned into werewolves or anything.

"Axis, what are you thinking about?" Kasha suddenly asked, lying beside him.

"Things."

"..."

"Don't worry, I've already got it figured out."

"Is it about Magnus?"

"Yep," Axis nodded.

"Don't worry," Kasha held Axis' hand, she felt it was appropriate.

"Right now, Magnus is the one asking for your help. Whether or not it works tomorrow, he won't make things difficult for you."

"...I know, but that's not what I'm worried about," Axis said, holding Kasha's relatively small hand in his. It was soft, unlink ehis own.

"Then what is it?" Kasha asked.

Axis opened his mouth, not sure how to answer. Was he supposed to tell Kasha he was worried about being targeted by a certain blue birdman?

"Let's sleep. I need to be well-rested for tomorrow," Axis said.

Seeing Axis already closing his eyes and pretending to sleep, Kasha could only sigh helplessly.

The night passed uneventfully.

Early the next morning, after having breakfast, Axis, Russ, and Kasha followed Magnus down to the enormous laboratory beneath his palace.

Today, an Astartes transformation surgery was about to be performed, with a twelve-year-old boy chosen as the recipient.

The chosen boy was visibly nervous, fidgeting uneasily in place.

Magnus hurried forward and used his powerful psychic abilities to calm the boy's nerves a little.

"Don't worry, child. I promise you'll be alright," Magnus said gently.

"Lord Magnus,I-I look forward to becoming your son… I will succeed," the boy replied firmly.

On this planet, Magnus was the undisputed king, the savior of the world.

Standing beside Magnus was another man in crimson power armor, over two meters tall, radiating powerful psychic energy, none other than Ahriman.

"Axis, that boy is a psyker! And the man beside him, his psychic power is really strong too," Kasha whispered to Axis as soon as they entered, having immediately sensed the psychic energies in the room.

The boy himself was nothing special, but the red-armored Space Marine next to Magnus possessed extraordinarily strong psychic power, almost as strong as Kasha's own.

Axis nodded.

It was best for Magnus's sons to select psykers for implantation. The success rate was higher that way.

For ordinary people, implanting Magnus's gene-seed did awaken psychic abilities, with extremely low success rate.

Once Magnus had calmed the boy, he brought Axis over to a special device.

Inside were several small, human like hearts, looking a bit rough in texture.

It was the Secondary Heart, also called the Maintainer, cultivated from gene seeds extracted from the Primarch himself.

All the Astartes' superhuman strength and enhanced organs came from these gene-seeds; without them, ordinary humans could never adapt to having two hearts.

"This?" Axis began. The heart looked rough, not like an organ that can be implanted into a human.

"This is the best sample we have managed to cultivate using my gene-seed," magnus explained, "Upon successful implantation, the heart will function as normal, eventually easing on the rough texture. But upon unsuccessful attempts, it wil mutate, killing the recipiant."

"Other cultivated organs doesn't have this problem?" Axis asked.

Magnus shook his head.

"That's why I didn't take you to an Aspirant first…I really hope you can help, Axis."

"I'll give it a try." Maybe the blue winged bastard was messing with only the hearts somehow?

Axis approached the container holding the Secondary Heart and attempted to channel his Ki into them.

The Secondary Heart, despite looking like a human heart, made of organic matter, reacted little to Axis's Ki.

It was nothing like injecting Ki inside a human body.

Still, Axis gave the Secondary Heart a thorough cleansing with his Ki.

"All right, I've purified the Maintainer with my Ki as best as I could. Next, I'll infuse the boy's body with Ki, then we'll proceed with the implantation," Axis explained.

Magnus nodded. He was tense.

Everyone gathered around the boy.

Axis placed his palm on the boy's forehead, slowly channeling Ki into his body, letting it flow through and nourish every cell.

After a moment, Axis nodded to Magnus.

Meanwhile, the Legion's Apothecary took out the Secondary Heart that Axis had just purified with Ki.
