Chapter 68: Chapter 68: Daemons of the Warp, Slaanesh and Khorne!
A golden energy shield enveloped Axis and the nearest Space Wolves, shielding them from the effects of that eerie laughter.
The instant she heard the laughter, Kasha immediately recognized the type of daemon they were about to face.
In the Warp, there were five types of daemons.
There were the daemons of Khorne, representing rage, war, and bloodshed, daemons of Nurgle, embodying plague, disease, and contagion.
Then there were the daemons of Tzeentch, masters of magic, change, and cunning schemes. And of course, the daemons of Slaanesh, representing lust, pleasure, and sensation.
Lastly, there were the so-called "Chaos Undivided", who belonged to no particular Chaos God, rather worshipping the four major Chaos Gods as a single pantheon..
Of all five types, the undivided ones were, with exception, the easiest to deal with.
However, Nurgle and Slaanesh daemons were by far the hardest opponents.
Wherever these two appeared, they brought plague, hallucinations, and temptation.
Wherever a daemon of Nurgle walked, diseases of every kind would break out, and these weren't normal illnesses, but Warp-borne plagues that no human medicine could cure or even defend against.
As for Slaanesh daemons, their speciality was seduction. The moment you saw one, you'd be confronted by the thing you most deeply desired.
They could become your greatest longing, your fondest dream, your most beautiful vision.
Then, while you were lost in pleasure, they'd hack off your hands and feet, peel back your skin, crack open your skull, and torture your soul, revelling in your exquisite agony.
As for Tzeentch daemons, it was best not to encounter them at all in the Warp.
If you did, you'd better hope your ship had a powerful psyker aboard, someone who could banish these monsters, or else your ship would soon be doomed to corruption.
"These Warp creatures will try to mess with your mind! Stay sharp, Wolf Lord," Kasha warned.
Axis nodded and unleashed his ki, forming a green barrier that overlaid with the psychic shield, reinforcing their defense.
Moments later, a bizarre creature appeared before them.
It had goat hooves, purple-pink skin, demonic horns, and a long lolling tongue.
Six arms with six knuckles and six fingers each sprouted from its torso.
It wore a tattered violet gauze dress.
It's figure was both voluptuous and hulking.
One half of It's chest was female, the other half male. One leg was thick and powerful, the other slim and smooth. Even its face was a disturbing blend of male and female features.
The creature's six hands wielded a variety of weapons, forks, whips, a twisted saber, and blades with wicked spikes.
The monster stood about three meters tall and looked utterly weird.
"Kneel before the Prince of Pleasure, mortals. I shall grant you the ultimate ecstasy," the Slaaneshi daemon declared.
"That's a Greater Daemon of Slaanesh! Be careful, everyone," Kasha called out.
Axis just snorted.
White light flared in his palm, and he launched a ki blast.
The daemon didn't even have time to react before the white energy bolt struck, blowing half its body to pieces.
Axis unleashed several more ki blasts in quick succession, obliterating the androgynous monster into smoking chunks.
Just like that, a Greater Daemon of Slaanesh had been blasted apart by Axis's ki wave.
"Disgusting. Damn, that was sickening!" Axis spat.
Axis had expected the daemons of the Warp to be formidable, but he had wiped it out with a single move!
Kasha shot Axis a speechless glance.
She'd been hoping to use the Slaanesh daemon as a training exercise, to explain its weaknesses and teach everyone how to fight such enemies.
She hadn't expected Axis to just blast it to pieces the moment it appeared!
But, of course, Warp daemons could never be truly killed.
Unless special measures were taken, their bodies would simply reconstitute themselves from the energies of the Warp.
"Well done, Young Wolf Lord!" one of the nearby Space Wolves gave Axis a thumbs-up.
As warriors from Fenris, they had seen Axis use the power of ki before.
"We'd better split up. There might be more daemons on board," another Space Wolf said.
Slaanesh and Nurgle daemons were especially deadly to ordinary mortals, if one got close, it was usually all over.
Already, screams were echoing through the ship.
Some mortal crewmen had already fallen prey to the daemons.
The Space Wolves nodded to each other and raised their bolters, sprinting off in all directions.
Russ drew his frost chainblade and led his guards, wading into the fray to hack apart the daemons that poured in through the momentary gap in the gellar field.
"Wolves! Purge these intruders! Destroy these Warp-spawned abominations!" Russ roared, rallying the Space Wolves as they plunged into battle against the daemons.
One by one, the daemons aboard the ship were exterminated.
The Gellar Field of the Gloriana was brought to full power, locking the daemons out.
Even so, several tens mortal crew and Imperial soldiers died during the Warp daemon attack.
The Space Marines were capable of handling these Warp daemons, but ordinary mortals stood little chance against them.
"Be careful, Axis. These daemons are masters of temptation, they'll bombard you with signals of pleasure. But that's only a façade. What you see isn't real. In truth, they're revolting monsters, with long tongues, androgynous bodies, absolutely disgusting.
"Torture is actually what they do best. Pleasure is just a mask. If you ask me, they're true avatars of pain. What they love most is the ecstasy of agony." As she walked, Kasha explained to Axis the different types and traits of Slaanesh daemons.
"I understand. I'll be careful," Axis replied.
"They'll appear as whatever mortals most desire.
"If their target is a woman, they'll become the perfect prince charming from her dreams. If it's a man, they'll become his dream lover, that one girl he's always longed for. Then, when you let your guard down, they'll lure you in and kill you in the most brutal way," Kasha continued.
Axis, however, possessed ki, which could help him resist the illusions; he should have been able to see through the daemons' true forms.
He nodded, unleashing ki blasts from his palm as he went, blowing every Slaanesh daemon he encountered into pieces along the way.
This was probably just a random incursion, as only a small group of Slaanesh daemons had managed to slip onto the ship.
'I knew it! If you mess around with this sort of thing, you're bound to draw Slaanesh's attention. Pain, not pleasure, is what that Chaos God truly favours. Pleasure is just the bait, agony and torment are what the entity really craves.' Axis thought as they went.
Just then, the ship rocked violently once again.
Red emergency lights flashed throughout the corridors, and Axis's communicator crackled to life.
"Report! Gellar Field Device Number four has malfunctioned," announced a Tech-Priest of the Adeptus Mechanicus, his voice echoing over the ship-wide broadcast.
"Who's closest to Number four? Get over there now and escort the nearest Tech-Priest for repairs," Russ called out.
Axis glanced at the panel map and saw that his group was the closest to Device Number four.
He immediately responded on the intercom.
"Dad! I'm closest to Device Number four. Send the Tech-Priest over, I'll escort him to the site for repairs."
"Understood. I'll assign a few men to bring him over. Is everything all right on your end?" Russ replied.
Russ had experienced countless Warp journeys, but daemon incursions on the ship were rare. He'd only encountered them twice before.
This was the third time.
The Gloriana-class battleship had the largest Gellar Field of any Imperial vessel, making breaches highly unlikely.
But once a breach happened, the best solution was to exterminate the daemons as quickly as possible, then exit the Warp storm and return to safe orbit.
Right now, the ship's Navigators were working desperately to plot a course out of the Warp storm.
"Yes, we have things under control here. Send me their location and I'll rendezvous with them," Axis said.
Russ nodded, immediately transmitting the Tech-Priest's location.
As soon as Axis received it, he and Kasha headed out together.
At that moment, more daemons began to appear aboard the ship.
A thin, blood-red mist started to spread through the corridors, different from the previous pinkish-violet haze.
The crimson fog made Axis feel uneasy, and a surge of suppressed rage suddenly bubbled up from deep within him.
Terrifying roars echoed through the ship!
Countless hulking, grotesque Khorne daemons appeared, completely ignoring the mortals and charging straight at the Slaanesh daemons nearby.
"Axis, the daemons this time aren't that tough. They're all battle-mad lunatics, just destroy them and you'll be fine.
"Slaanesh and Khorne daemons are natural enemies; whenever they see each other, they fight," Kasha explained.
Luck was on their side.
All they needed to do was get the Gellar Field back online as quickly as possible.
Axis didn't speak.
He pressed his hand to his chest, working to calm his heartbeat and suppress the rage rising within him.
He focused all his energy, channelling his ki to keep his mind clear.
His specialised Magnificat activated as well, helping him remain calm.
The power of Khorne was extremely dangerous for Saiyans!
If not for the Emperor's genetic modifications, his enhanced brain, and the special Magnificat he possessed, a regular Saiyan brought into this universe would likely have attracted Khorne's attention in no time, quickly becoming one of the god's chosen.
"Axis, stay calm, keep your rage under control." Kasha immediately released her golden psychic energy, helping Axis dispel the blood-red mist.
