Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Repairing the Geller Field, Escaping the Warp Storm
The Slaaneshi daemon had absolutely no effect on Axis; his will was far more attuned to battle, so the one that affected him the most was actually Khorne.
Before ever coming into contact with Axis, her father, the Emperor, had already told her a few things about Axis's condition.
Deep within Axis's heart was an unimaginably terrifying rage.
He had to learn to control this rage; otherwise, the powers of Chaos would easily exploit it.
"Are you alright, Axis? If not, you should stay here and rest.
"I can escort the Tech-Priest over to repair the Geller Field Device," Kasha said with clear concern.
The last thing the imperium wanted was Axis, the Champion of Khorne.
"Don't worry, I've calmed down now! There's nothing to worry about," Axis nodded and replied to her.
The Emperor and Malcador were right, he had to undergo some sort of mental discipline.
Only that way could he better control his anger.
Otherwise, Khorne would always be his greatest nemesis, able to manipulate him with rage at any time.
Fortunately, his ki could resist the corrosive effects of the Warp to some extent, and the Emperor had also enhanced his brain, even installing a special Magnificat that allowed him to restrain his fury.
Moreover, Kasha's golden psychic power, compared to ordinary psykers, was much closer in nature to the Emperor's, and could help Axis better resist the corruption of Chaos.
"Then let's keep moving. If we run into any daemons, leave them to me. Reducing how much you fight will help you control your rage," Kasha said.
"I'm not as fragile as you think. I only felt something because I suddenly inhaled some of that bloody red energy just now. I'm nowhere near losing control!" Axis responded.
That bit of anger just now wasn't nearly enough to make him lose his mind and go berserk.
It simply wasn't enough to push him over the edge, and after circulating his ki through his head, Axis felt even clearer-headed than before.
Kasha nodded, and the two continued onward, fighting various purple and red daemons along the way.
Axis wasted no words; whenever daemons appeared, he and Kasha would launch a volley of ki blasts, blowing them to pieces.
Kasha, meanwhile, wove golden psychic shields to protect Axis.
It had to be said, Axis's ki was extremely effective against these daemons as not a single one could withstand even a single hit.
Basically, any daemon struck by his attacks was instantly blasted apart, unable to put up any resistance at all.
A few minutes later, two Space Wolves escorted a Tech-Priest toward Axis and Kasha.
The priest was robed in red and bristling with mechanical augmentations and servo-arms.
"May Omnissiah bless you. Please escort me to repair the Geller Field Device as quickly as possible. The sooner it's fixed, the sooner we can escape this peril!" the Tech-Priest said.
The two Space Wolves who escorted him stood straight and gave Axis a salute.
"Follow me! You two, protect the Tech-Priest. Leave everything else to me," Axis nodded to the three and immediately led them toward the malfunctioning Geller Field generator.
"This time, there are two types of Warp creatures that have boarded the ship. The blood-red ones can stir up rage and the will to fight deep inside people.
Space Marines were extensively trained on handling Wrap creatures before they were deployed on the field.
Kasha didn't see the need to explain anything as they walked.
The two Space Wolves walked confidently, focused, steady.
Along the way, the group encountered little resistance.
Any daemon that appeared was nothing more than cannon fodder in Axis's eyes.
Whether it was the hulking Khorne daemons or the slender, elegant Slaaneshi daemons, all were instantly blown to pieces by Axis's attacks.
After each battle, Kasha would use her golden psychic power to cleanse the remains of the Warp daemons from the area.
About ten minutes later, Axis and the others reached the malfunctioning sector.
The Tech-Priest opened the heavy doors and immediately went inside to start repairs.
"While I'm repairing, please do your best to keep this area secure. I need my full concentration," the Tech-Priest said, opening his toolbox and extending several octopus-like mechadendrites from his body as he began work on the Geller Field generator.
The two Space Wolves took up position right beside the Tech-Priest, per Axis's orders, for close protection.
Kasha raised her staff and stood on the inner side, while Axis took up the foremost position.
Zzzzt! Boom! Bang! Bang! Bang!
From Axis's palm, white ki blasts shot forth one after another, annihilating any daemon that appeared before him.
The two Space Wolves at his side opened fire with their bolters as well.
Besides standard Imperial weaponry, the Space Wolves were also armed with energy rifles brought by Axis, which could now be mass-produced!
However, the energy rifles were a bit too powerful, and they could potentially damage the ship itself. So, they weren't actually suitable for fighting inside the ship.
The daemons that had invaded the ship seemed to realize something as well.
Under the command of higher-ranked daemons, some of the lesser ones began to attack Axis and his group, trying to prevent them from repairing the Geller Field.
However, these daemons were never able to break through Axis's iron defense.
Axis alone was like a mobile turret.
If it weren't for the fact that they were inside the ship and Axis dared not go all out, a single Super Ki Blast would have wiped out every daemon, no matter how many there were.
About half an hour later, several more squads of Space Marines arrived as reinforcements, along with another Tech-Priest.
With the two Tech-Priests working together, the Geller Field was quickly repaired.
Once it was restored, the protective gellar shield immediately went up, shutting out all of the Warp daemons.
While the Tech-Priests were repairing the ship's Geller Field Device, under the guidance of the Navigator, Russ's fleet had already sailed out of the localized warp storm and reached a safe area.
At this point, there was no longer any risk of Warp daemons suddenly appearing inside the ship.
The fleet had finally escaped the threat of the Warp.
"All right, the Geller Field generator is repaired. Now all that's left is to clean up the remaining Warp creatures in this room," the two Tech-Priests nodded and said.
"You escort the Tech-Priests back to the safe zone. I'll continue to clear out the rest of the daemons," Axis said, then turned with Kasha to leave and keep sweeping the ship of daemonic threats.
At the same time, the Space Wolves also began working together to eliminate the remaining Warp daemons.
The accompanying Imperial destroyers, as well as the cruisers and frigates near the Glorious Queen-class battleship, all cleared their own ships of daemons as well.
A few hours later, Axis and Kasha returned to the command center of the Glorious Queen-class battleship, where Russ was on the bridge directing operations.
"Report! Lord Russ! All Warp entities aboard the ships have been completely wiped out, and we have already left the Warp storm zone. Our fleet is now safe," a mortal officer reported to Russ.
"What's the situation with the ships? Did we lose any vessels, or did any get lost in the Warp?" Russ asked.
Accidents could happen at any time in a Warp storm, it was possible to lose dozens of Imperial transports or battleships in a single incident.
"Lord Russ, all of our fleet is safe, even the smallest Sword-class escort made it through," the Imperial Navy officer replied.
"What about damage reports? Give me a full account," Russ commanded.
"Lord Russ, on your flagship, over 500 sailors were killed, along with more than 400 Imperial Navy troopers.
"There were over a dozen wounded Space Wolves, but none were killed.
"The other ships are still compiling casualty reports and will have results soon," the officer continued.
"I see. Tell all ships to be careful, deal with the bodies of the dead, and treat the wounded at once.
"Also, order the Navigators on every ship to keep an eye out for any more Warp storms ahead. I don't want this happening again," Russ ordered.
"Understood!," the ship's astropath nodded, immediately beginning psychic communications with the other ships.
After everything was arranged, Russ finished his work and everyone returned to their posts.
"Old man, looks like commanding a flagship isn't as easy as I imagined," Axis said as he walked over.
"There you are, Axis. It's a good thing you were here this time, I heard you killed a lot of daemons," Russ replied.
This time, Axis had performed magnificently.
Many Space Wolves and even some regular humans had witnessed up close as Axis used his ki to destroy Warp daemons.
"I did kill a lot. Honestly, I don't think these daemons are all that strong," Axis said.
"Hahaha, maybe for you, but it's not so easy for ordinary people.
"When sailing through the Warp, stuff like this happens all the time. My ship is better off than most.
"The Geller Fields on other ships aren't as strong as mine. Encounters with Warp entities are almost routine," Russ replied.
"Let's hope the Emperor can develop a human FTL ship soon," Axis said.
He wondered how the Emperor's research on the FTL ship he'd provided was going.
In the Dragon Ball world, Bulma's father had managed to reverse-engineer one in just a few months.
