Warframe Voidwalker : Multiverse Journey

Chapter 64: Chapter 64: Diana

The exhibition hall contained numerous artifacts. Marcus followed the flow of visitors, moving forward slowly, carefully examining each Greek antiquity.

It was a process that tested his patience. Despite walking for a considerable time, he hadn't found any artifacts containing the energy he sought.

However, Marcus noticed a woman who faintly radiated power. She was observing an ancient sword not far away.

After passing through several displays of Greek antiquities, Marcus approached her.

The woman was strikingly beautiful, and Marcus quickly deduced her true identity—the demigod warrior of the Amazons, Wonder Woman Diana.

After all, she was the only one who would take such interest in Greek antiquities. She appeared to be collecting divine weapons scattered across the Earth.

"You seem familiar with this sword. Can you explain it?" Marcus asked.

"Certainly. According to legend, this sword was crafted by Hephaestus, the god of fire in Greek mythology. It was a treasure bestowed upon mortal kings."

Diana nodded, looking at the sword with a slight smile. This blade was one of her targets for retrieval.

She wasn't fabricating. The sword was indeed connected to Hephaestus, though not forged by the fire god himself. It was a flame sword crafted by the Amazons.

Of course, when she recovered it, she would replace it with a similar ordinary weapon. This sword represented part of humanity's heritage.

"That's a good explanation, but there seem to be details you've omitted."

While conversing with Diana, Marcus gradually sensed the power emanating from the sword. This weapon was the goal of his journey—an item with special energy.

Marcus's comment confused Diana. She sensed he had more to say.

Could this man know something?

Turning to face Marcus, Diana assessed him carefully. The man before her appeared unremarkable.

"Are you suggesting there's something unusual about this sword?"

"Not unusual about the sword itself—just that your explanation isn't complete." Marcus shook his head. "This sword is extraordinary. Look at the marks on the blade. If I'm not mistaken, its wielder must have participated in a great conflict."

Light scratches marred the sword's surface, diminishing its aesthetic perfection. After sensing the energy within the blade, Marcus realized that ordinary weapons couldn't have left such marks.

Hearing that Marcus was referring to the scratches, Diana relaxed slightly. She examined the marks on the flame sword, recalling the world war her mother had described.

"You're right. The owner of this sword did experience a great war—a life-or-death struggle."

The flame swords scattered across the Earth were nearly all lost in that battle. The Amazons hadn't retrieved them at the time, instead gifting them to the humans who fought alongside them.

As years passed, those humans traveled the world, and the flame swords followed their journeys to different locations.

"A life-or-death battle," Marcus reflected momentarily, roughly understanding when this sword had appeared. "Indeed. The power wielded by those warriors was formidable. I imagine the ancient Greek gods expended considerable effort."

"What do you mean?"

Diana frowned, increasingly suspicious that Marcus knew more than he revealed.

"What do I mean?" Marcus smiled, meeting her gaze. "A demigod from Paradise Island surely understands my meaning."

Then, as Diana's expression grew alert, Marcus continued:

"Don't be alarmed. I don't seek conflict with you. I'm merely interested in the power this sword contains."

Seeing Marcus's composed demeanor, Diana relaxed slightly, though remaining cautious.

"You say you're interested in the flame sword's power. What exactly do you intend?"

"Nothing complicated. I want to extract its energy, after which it would become an ordinary antique."

Marcus didn't conceal his purpose. He hoped to acquire more artifacts from Diana to extract additional Aya Stars.

"Just that?"

Diana found it difficult to believe that he only wanted to extract the flame sword's power.

As mass-produced weapons of the Amazons, flame swords were standard equipment for Paradise Island's warriors. She collected these divine weapons scattered across Earth primarily to prevent their misuse.

"That's it." Marcus smiled, gesturing toward the flame sword in its display case. "I need to extract this sword's power for my purposes. If possible, I'd appreciate obtaining more similar items from you. Consider it a favor."

He didn't know how many artifacts Diana had recovered, but given her years in human society, he assumed she had collected quite a few.

Diana, however, didn't readily accept Marcus's proposal. Though she wasn't particularly concerned about this mass-produced flame sword, she needed to understand what Marcus intended to do with its power.

Seeing her continued wariness, Marcus could only shrug helplessly.

"It seems you don't trust me. Nevertheless, I won't relinquish this sword. If you require assistance in the future, perhaps we can arrange an exchange for equipment with different powers."

He was determined to acquire this flame sword—he needed more Aya Stars.

Marcus's words gave Diana pause. Although the flame sword originated with the Amazons, she wasn't its current owner and had no right to determine its fate.

Moreover, the fact that he was willing to compete with her for the sword despite knowing her identity suggested he wasn't intimidated by her power.

"Who are you? Are you from another world?"

She knew life existed not only on Earth but on many planets throughout the universe. Visitors from other worlds occasionally came to Earth.

Marcus's origins made her suspect he might be such an extraterrestrial visitor.

"Well... good question, but I've always lived on Earth."

As for whether it was this particular Earth—that remained uncertain.

It was difficult to determine whether Marcus spoke truthfully. Diana couldn't produce the Lasso of Truth here, so she temporarily set aside her suspicions.

"Do you have time later?" She fixed him with an unwavering gaze. "I need to test you. If you pass, I'll believe you."

Lasso of Truth?

As Diana finished speaking, Marcus immediately understood her intention. Anyone bound by the Lasso of Truth could only speak the truth.

"That's fine, but I hope you can provide similar equipment to what I seek. I genuinely need such items."

The Lasso of Truth didn't concern him. Though powerful, his void abilities weren't defenseless against it. For ordinary questions, he would answer truthfully, but if asked about certain secrets—well, that wouldn't be his fault.

They stopped discussing these matters and instead explored various antiquities throughout the exhibition hall together. The artifacts were impressive, though many fakes were mixed among the authentic pieces.
