Chapter 126: Chapter 126: Returning to the Farm
The situation in New Mexico had concluded. After packing up the Destroyer's wreckage, Marcus and the others returned to New York.
Meanwhile, Professor Selvig and his team, now funded by Tony, had been invited to collaborate with S.H.I.E.L.D. With their financial concerns eliminated, they were preparing to conduct deeper astronomical research.
This was a situation they had never imagined possible—their first time having such abundant research resources at their disposal.
As for S.H.I.E.L.D., Coulson had immediately reported everything he'd learned from Thor to Fury.
The news was genuinely shocking. Although Coulson had encountered aliens before, those experiences hadn't exactly been pleasant.
This situation was different. Thor wasn't just an alien—he was the actual God of Thunder from Norse mythology.
This suggested that these beings had visited Earth thousands of years ago, demonstrating Thor's powerful ability to control storms.
Coulson's report left Fury silent, though not because of Thor. It was Marcus's sudden appearance that made Fury frown.
Fury had seen plenty of aliens and similar phenomena. Combined with previous intelligence, the revelation that Thor was an alien didn't exceed his expectations.
But Marcus was different. Despite knowing him, neither Fury nor Howard, who had known Marcus far longer, understood his true origins.
This enigmatic man always appeared suddenly and disappeared just as mysteriously.
"Where did he go all those years ago?"
Fury only knew that Marcus had transformed into a armor, walked into some kind of dimensional crack, and hadn't returned until recently.
"Looks like I need to have a conversation with him."
...
On the farm
Bucky was holding a box of repair tools, working on the tractor.
Although he had fully automated the farm's operations, he still enjoyed doing certain tasks himself.
For example, during harvest time, he preferred driving the harvester personally to gather the crops.
This was one of the few activities he used for recreation. Recently, he'd found another—he'd met a woman at a flower shop in town.
Though she was just an ordinary person, she was exactly his type. He was planning to set aside part of the land next year to grow flowers for her.
VROOM~
The roar of a car engine approached from a distance, soon arriving at the farm.
"Yo ~ Bucky."
A familiar voice reached his ears. Looking up, he saw Marcus leaning out of the car window, smiling at him.
"Marcus?" Seeing Marcus's familiar smile, Bucky froze momentarily before breaking into a grin. "You're back!"
"Yeah, I had some things to deal with, so I stepped away for a bit."
"A bit? You've been gone for over ten years."
The two chatted as Bucky recounted how he'd managed the farm during those years, completely ignoring Tony who had exited the car.
After being left hanging for too long, Tony couldn't stand it anymore and interrupted their conversation.
"Are you two planning to chat out here forever?"
As he spoke, he walked toward the house. He hadn't visited this farm in more than a decade, and the closer he got to the house, the more unsettled he felt.
His parents had been dead for over ten years—something he'd tried his best to avoid confronting. If not for knowing his father had left vibranium alloy somewhere on the farm, he might never have returned here.
Seeing Tony walking toward the house, Marcus and Bucky exchanged glances and smiled.
The two followed him, thinking perhaps it was time to reveal some information about the Starks.
The house remained exactly as it had been. Bucky hadn't altered anything in the Stark residence, merely keeping it clean.
This brought tears to Tony's eyes as he entered his parents' home. The unchanged house reminded him of when his parents were alive.
Those were his fondest memories—no matter his mood, his mother had always been able to comfort him.
Moving through the house, Tony entered Howard's laboratory. It too remained untouched since Howard's death.
However, there was no sign of the vibranium alloy among the various outdated instruments and equipment.
"Didn't you say he left vibranium alloy? I don't see it anywhere."
Tony knew every part of this house better than he knew Stark Industries. He saw no alloy materials in his father's lab, and the rest of the house seemed equally unlikely as storage for such valuable material.
"Hahaha..." Marcus and Bucky exchanged knowing smiles. "Of course you can't see the vibranium alloy—it's not in this house!"
The vibranium alloy and other important items were stored in an underground space. If Tony could find the vibranium here, something would be seriously wrong.
Bucky led them to the bedroom. Standing in front of a wall lamp, he gently turned its wick.
With a faint click, the bedroom cabinet made a sound, and a wooden-floored elevator opened before them.
"The laboratory upstairs was only for studying simple things. What Howard truly left behind is stored down here."
Hearing Bucky's explanation, Tony's eyes widened. When had his father built this basement? It was so well-hidden that even he, who had often stayed here, had never discovered it.
"What are you standing there for? Let's go—what you want is below."
After speaking, Marcus entered the elevator. Once Tony regained his composure, he followed, leaving Bucky alone outside.
As the elevator descended, Tony fell into deep thought.
This underground chamber was remarkably deep—they'd been descending for quite some time.
It wasn't that such technology was particularly advanced, but rather that he had never noticed any signs of its existence. That's what he found most incredible.
Such an extensive secret room had been constructed beneath the house without raising suspicion. If not for Marcus and Bucky's guidance, he probably wouldn't have discovered it until the house was demolished and rebuilt.
Entering the underground space, Tony was astonished by its vastness. He could scarcely imagine how his father had managed to build such an enormous facility under the noses of countless people.
Led by Marcus, Tony explored the underground complex, discovering items related to his parents.
On one table sat well-preserved photographs of his mother and father, their faces clearly visible.
"How long did it take to build this place?"
"About a few years. It was challenging at first, but got easier as time went on. Didn't you notice all those additional stone sculptures in your house?" Marcus smiled and shrugged. "That wasn't just Howard's artistic whim. The excavated space had to go somewhere."
While speaking, he guided Tony to the location where the vibranium alloy was stored.
