Chapter 123: Chapter 123: God's Deal
"It's nothing, just a minor accident in my dimension."
Marcus replied casually. It was good to know that dimensional changes were natural—he hadn't intentionally manipulated the Void to expand. The Void cracks that appeared were likely accidental results of his power's dissipation.
His words didn't reassure the Ancient One, however. Even if Marcus agreed to lend her power from the Void, she would avoid using it as much as possible.
She could resist other dimensional powers with various spells, but Marcus's dimension, in her view, was something you used when you were willing to die alongside your opponent.
That energy—full of death and corruption—possessed an extraordinary ability to assimilate and pollute any dimensional power it encountered.
The Void was the most terrifying dimension the Ancient One had ever witnessed. Even the Dark Dimension's power that she currently borrowed couldn't fully resist the Void's corruption.
"You must be careful. The power of your dimension is truly terrifying."
Marcus nodded. No one understood better than him what the Void truly was.
Though the Void behaved like a docile sheep for him, to others, it was like a deadly poison that seduced the soul.
Once tainted by it, a person would either become a servant of the Void or perish within its energy.
Meanwhile, Odin looked helplessly at Marcus, then at the stunned people outside the mirror dimension.
"You've disrupted my plan."
"What plan? To make that foolish man outside become a god again, or to make that frost runt in your household completely lose faith in you?"
Marcus raised his eyebrows as he regarded the one-eyed old man before him. Calling Odin a failed father wasn't an exaggeration—Odin himself hadn't denied it.
Though it differed from mythology, none of Odin's three children had been raised properly.
His eldest, Hela, the goddess of death, was a war-obsessed lunatic—which was precisely why Odin had sealed her away.
His second child was Thor, the reckless figure outside. Though named heir to Asgard, every time he wielded Mjolnir, he transformed into a thunder-wielding brute.
As for the third, Loki, the god of mischief—he was actually the heir of the Frost Giant king Laufey, which according to Odin's own words, gave him the qualifications to be king.
It was a pity that even knowing his Frost Giant heritage, Loki felt no connection to them, stubbornly fixating on becoming Asgard's king instead.
Marcus's words made Odin take a deep breath. He understood the truth in them.
He might be immensely powerful, but when it came to raising children, he couldn't match even ordinary mortal families.
"Thor is the future ruler of Asgard—this cannot be changed. What Asgard needs is not a king who conquers all realms. Asgard needs a king who is kind, tolerant, and merciful..."
Odin spoke emphatically, explaining to Marcus the importance of a good king, but his speech didn't impress Marcus in the slightest.
Odin had failed to raise his child properly from the beginning, and now sought to reshape him through other means. The old man's machinations were transparent.
But now that Marcus had destroyed the Destroyer, Odin's plan was in jeopardy. Clearly, Odin never intended to permanently exile Thor.
After a moment of silence, Marcus looked at Odin. Perhaps he could help Thor reclaim Mjolnir, but Odin would need to pay a price for Thor to meet Odin's expectations.
Of course, Odin could refuse and simply restore Thor's power directly—but then all his carefully laid plans would be for nothing.
"A collection of special weapons from Asgard, and I'll help you educate that fool."
Marcus's proposal momentarily stunned Odin.
He had merely wanted Marcus to understand that he'd disrupted Odin's plan, but now Marcus was speaking as if he was making a deal.
"What do you say? Give me a batch of Asgardian weapons, and I'll let your plan continue."
A collection of Asgard's weaponry in exchange for shaping Thor into the king Odin envisioned—it was a tempting offer.
But Marcus had destroyed the Destroyer. How should that be accounted for?
"Don't even think about making me pay for that broken armor. Sending that weapon to Earth could be interpreted as a declaration of war..."
Marcus didn't need to guess Odin's thoughts—he had no intention of making reparations.
Although Odin ruled the Nine Realms, that didn't mean he could do whatever he pleased. Since the Destroyer had appeared on Earth, there was no issue with Marcus destroying it.
Hearing Marcus's words, Odin couldn't help but laugh.
"Hahaha! If you can mold Thor into what I envision, I'll overlook the Destroyer's destruction and provide you with sufficient Asgardian weapons."
He was curious to see what Marcus planned. How could he transform his reckless son into a worthy king?
Under their watchful eyes, Marcus transformed into Void energy and slipped from the mirror dimension into the Destroyer's remains outside.
The Destroyer, which had completely lost mobility, began moving again. As everyone watched, its wounds healed rapidly.
SQUEAK
With the sound of twisting and grinding metal, the Destroyer—now controlled by Marcus—fully recovered.
Light blue energy surrounded the Destroyer as Marcus directed it toward Thor.
Seeing the Destroyer move again, Sif and the Warriors Three stepped forward. They had to stop it.
But this time, they weren't facing the actual Destroyer—they were facing Marcus who had possessed it.
Seeing their attack, Marcus didn't hesitate. He swung his fist violently, knocking Volstagg who was charging with his shield into a parked car, instantly crushing the vehicle.
"Ha, it's fun being the BOSS!"
As the others rushed toward him, Marcus felt a surge of exhilaration. He released a beam of destructive energy, sweeping it toward the group.
BOOM!!!
The powerful blast knocked Sif and the others off their feet. If Marcus hadn't deliberately weakened the attack, Thor's friends would have died instantly.
Tony, flying overhead, was relatively lucky. He avoided the blast's aftermath and took advantage of the thick dust cloud to fire his chest-mounted energy cannon at full power toward the Destroyer.
THUD
The energy beam struck the Destroyer, but Marcus only felt a strong, continuous impact.
"Tony's weapons are really underpowered. This kind of sustained impact alone can't defeat a serious opponent."
To teach Tony a lesson, Marcus raised the Destroyer's hand slightly, releasing a scorching beam of light from its palm.
WHOOSH
The searing beam cut through the air, deliberately targeting Tony's armor.
A gap melted in the shoulder of the Iron Man suit under the intense heat of the beam.
Fortunately, the suit had multiple layers and various systems to counter extreme temperatures. The moment its outer shell melted, the cooling system activated. Cold air circulated throughout the suit, rapidly cooling the molten metal.
