Chapter 54- One hundred steps

Her hand moved again but this time it wasn't random, but more deliberate. Her hand moved for a couple of seconds before it suddenly stopped and pointed... at Ange.

Everyone followed her hand as it pointed at Ange but unlike their expectations, she didn't shake. Her gaze was calm and aa tranquil as a clear lake as she took firm steps towards the silver pool of water. Grey looked at Ange with a puzzled expression on his face.

He had known Ange for a decent amount of time and knew that she was someone who had talent, especially in the aspect of Pill refinement. But he wasn't sure if that sort of talent applied here, where he didn't even know what kind of talent they were looking for.

But her gaze was calm and determined as she took several steps until she was in front of the pool. Just as she was about to step in, the cold lady's voice suddenly rang out.

"No, not you. That boy with wearing a hood that covers his grey hair." Her voice stopped Ange at the last second as she was about to enter. Ange glanced at Grey, her lips twitched but she regained her composure and took a glance at the figure under the Golden leafed tree. She nodded her head slightly and turned back to walk to her group.

As his gaze met hers, she also gave him a curt nod signifying for him to do his best. Grey reciprocated with a short nod of his own as he walked forward. Out of nowhere, a gust of wind blew and his hood fell down, letting his grey hair to be seen by all. But Grey did not seem to notice as his gaze was filled with determination.

He walked towards the silver lake with calm steps, his slender figure exuding confidence. Up in the room, Tyler suddenly turned her gaze away and said. "Why does he have that gaze in eyes like he wants to do something mad?" Her question was directed at Caster.

But Caster's eyes did not leave the screen, as he was focused on Grey when he saw the similar madness that appeared in his eyes every once in a while.

Meanwhile Tyler muttered under her breath. "He didn't seem to find any other habit to copy than madness."

Down in the test room, Grey stared at the calm silver lake and the Golden leafed tree that stood fifteen meters away. His feet plunged first into the silver water.

Freezing!

That was the first thought that entered his head at that moment. The water was very cold, but he didn't feel anything different about it. He could bear it. So in silence, he continued walking. He walked past the ten steps, fifteen steps, twenty steps!

Everyone's gaze was locked into him in tension, soon he passed the thirtieth step and closely approaching forty, but he didn't seem to be stopping anytime soon.

'Hmm, I don't feel any different.' Grey said inwardly when he felt that nothing had happened to him yet. He hadn't been stopped at all and felt as free as the way he started.

Soon, he walked passed forty steps and entered fifty. The handsome youth up in the ceiling was looking down with a serious expression on his face.

'First, the green haired kid, then him... it appears that there are quite some talented kids we have here today!' His thoughts were internal but his expression didn't change. Even the beautiful lady had a stunned expression on her face.

To the surprise of many, Grey passed fifty steps and entered the sixty steps stage. Now, he was already half-way across the pool of silver. As if not knowing the meaning of slowing down, Grey continued with the same momentum.

The rest of the examinees were looking at the scene with their mouths open in shock. When Grey walked over seventy steps, everyone was about to go mad.

Up the control room where Captain and Tyler sat watching the scene with baffled expressions, one of the personnel snapped out of his shock and immediately said to the person next to him.

"Call the authorities! Send them a live video, ASAP!" The man shouted as his colleague instantly did as he was told. The Captain had a serious expression, but other than that, no one could guess what he was thinking.

When Grey finally took the eightieth step, he felt some reaction from the water. It felt as if the water became a little heavier. But to him, this was a trivial matter, he lifted his feet and continued taking large strides.

As Grey took a step passed the eightieth step, the silver water began to shine with a silver light. The Golden tree at the end of the lake reacted with its golden leaves swinging slightly even though there was no wind.

Grey looked at this with apprehension. He then stopped and took a look behind him. He was met by Ange's shocked expression, along with everyone else's.

'Hm, what's wrong?' He said inwardly and muttered.

"I have already reached the eightieth step, but I don't feel any resistance! Should I stop, or do I need to reach the end for some reason?"

Grey thought to himself for a few seconds before he decided to continue onwards.

'If nothing is stopping me, then why should I stop?' He said in his heart and lifted his feet to continue walking. The image of Caster manifesting his incomplete domain to completely suppress the Shadow sect ancestor was still in his mind. His eyes turned red as his foot descended into the water. His gaze was calm but there was a fiery flame in them. A flame that spoke of unyielding and unwillingness.

'This will be my first steps towards power! I have the opportunity to start a new life in a new body and in a new world, I will definitely reach the pinnacle.'

It was at this moment that he suddenly remembered his brother and sister. Only their images remained in his head but those memories made his heart clench. Although they were not technically his biological siblings, he felt melancholic whenever he thought of them.

"Up in the control room, a figure suddenly entered. She wore a light pure white dress and had totally white hair. She exuded a feeling of looking at the coldest ice. Her expression was also cold and frosty. She did not even take a look around as her gaze was immediately attracted to the screen of light which showed Grey standing at the eighty first step with a nonchalant expression. Her brows furrowed furiously as she looked at the scene.

As soon as the lady burst in, Tyler looked up. Her face eyes flashed in surprise. The Captain was also surprised but his expression was mixed with complication and his gaze puzzled.

"Master!"

Suddenly, both of them said in unison, as if it had been rehearsed from the beginning. The woman finally looked up, acknowledging that there were people in the room. At first, her gaze was focused on Tyler but when she saw the bowing figure of the Captain behind her, her expression was shaken.

She muttered in a cold voice. "Sky Ice!"

When Caster heard their master call him 'Sky Ice', his breathing increased and his entire body trembled. He suddenly looked up with his face full of regret. Just as he was about to speak, he heard his master say coldly.

"Not here!" She shook her head to signal him that they would talk later. A bit of surprise could be seen in her eyes but it was later suppressed by chilling ice.

"You brought this kid with you, right?" Her expression had not changed, excluding that time where she mentioned his name. The Caster nodded his head vigorously when he heard her words. His master did not say anything again and looked at the screen. She did not bother with the bother captain anymore and continued to watch Grey's actions intently.

Tyler was currently stuck in a dilemma, she didn't know whether go talk to Caster or her master. In the end, she made up her mind and stayed quiet while watching the screen.

After some thought, Grey decided to keep moving to the Golden leafed tree. The light from the purple crystal kept on shining brightly. At first he began to feel some friction between his feet and the water, but he was able to continue onward without any change in his expression.

Meanwhile, everyone on the shore was watching with their mouths opened for different reasons. On the shore, Sylvia opened her mouth in shock. Her eyes were wide as if she had just seen a ghost. Unlike most of the examinees who didn't know what this silver water was, she knew.

She knew that the amount of steps you took determined the amount of talent you had. In the entire history of Sky Mist academy, only a handful had talent reaching up to eighty steps. And each of those figures went on to become powerful people at the top of the world.

Those who went over ninety steps could be called monsters, even according to Sky Mist academy's standards.

Normally, when you begin to walk towards the end you will feel a little bit of friction stopping you every step. Eventually, you would stop according to the amount of talent you had. Advancing even further was near impossible.

But Grey had walked past ninety steps and was soon approaching the end of the silver lake. He could see the breathtaking figure sitting under the Golden leafed tree. But her expression was one of shock.

Even the handsome youth high up was silent. His face was contorted into a frown. As Grey approached ninety-nine steps, he felt the light coming from the purple crystal suddenly stop. His face had darkened into a frown.

When everyone saw Grey stop at ninety-nine steps, they thought he had finally reached his limits and couldn't walk any further. But then he suddenly took a step and completed one hundred steps!
