Chapter 6: Chapter 6
I threw the mop in my hand, and it landed with a thud. I swallowed hard when his dark eyes pierced through mine.
"I came with the maid. She brought me here to teach me how to clean," I tried to explain myself, but the way he was staring at me made it hard for me to focus.
He was able to get up straight this time, but it was obvious that he was drunk. He must have had a lot to drink after he successfully punished me. What a bastard.
Nicholas strode towards me, and before I knew what was happening, he yanked my hair and snarled at me. "Don't even try anything silly. Don't dare me, sweetheart, because you don't know what I'm made of."
I bit down on my lips to stop myself from saying something, but it was hard not to retaliate. "I didn't come here to steal. If you feel so insecure with me in your territory, then let me go."
"Release my friend," I let my words slip. "I can't continue to be here where I never wanted to be. I want to be a doctor, but now you've cut that journey short."
He raised a brow as if finding what I said amusing. "I cut that journey short? Should I remind you that you were living with a worthless boyfriend who doesn't want the best for you?"
I gritted my teeth in anger. "That is not your business."
"It's my business since your so-called boyfriend ran away with my money. Now you are my property. You already have a worthless life, so let me make it even more lively for you," he said and smirked. "You should be grateful you were privileged to be in a place like this. Do you know how many ladies want to be close to me?" he asked, feeling cocky.
I was disgusted with his words. I felt so insulted. I glared at him. "I'd rather live my life miserably without you in it. Please do me the favor of letting me go so you can invite those ladies who would be more happy to be here."
He looked stunned at me. I tried to make my way to the door, but he stopped me. He dragged my hand, almost making me stumble on him. Nicholas dragged me by my waist. I was so close to him. I tried pushing hard on his chest so he would let me go, but he wasn't doing anything. I pushed hard, but it was hard.
"Let me go!" I yelled, but he wasn't even making an attempt to let me go.
I gritted my teeth. "I said, let me go!"
He yanked my hair. I let out a wince. It hurts.
"You're hurting me," I said.
He glared at me. "You need to learn how to respect me. I'm your boss."
I shook my head. "You are not my boss. You are someone who takes advantage of innocent women. You rape them because of the satisfaction you derive."
I said to him, he furrowed his brows. "Rape? Who raped who?"
"You raped me, Mr. Nicholas. You raped me. Don't even deny it," I said with unshed tears in my eyes.
There was this look that passed through his eyes. I didn't know what it was, but then he let me go.
The door opened up in that moment. The lady I came here with walked in. When she saw the mafia king, she quickly went on her knees.
"I'm so sorry, master. She didn't do anything wrong. I brought her here because I wanted her to learn how to clean."
"Please pardon her and punish me instead," she said, and I shook my head at her.
Before I could say a word, he beat me to it.
"Leave my room now," he ordered.
I don't need to be told twice. I walked out of the room, feeling proud of myself. I'm sure what I said to him must have rung a bell. The way he stared at me the moment those sentences came out says it all. He felt insulted, and that is exactly how it should be. He was acting like he didn't force himself on me. I know that feeling between my legs wasn't normal. The moment I woke up, I knew something must have happened while I was unconscious.
"You need to tell me what happened to you," the maid asked me worriedly. "I'm sure he said something to you. I saw the tears in your eyes when I walked inside."
I shook my head. "It's nothing you should be worried about. Thanks for always standing up for me."
She smiled a little. "I know it's hard for you to stay here, but can you please try to act as though you're okay? I just hate to see you in danger."
A tear dropped onto my cheeks. "I really want that badly. I want to be free from him."
She had this pitiful look on her face. She heaved a sigh and said, "There's going to be a party tomorrow night. It's going to be a houseful, and I don't want you to go out of your way, Amber." She warned, "I know it's difficult being here, but come to think of it, if you stay clear of the master, you'll be good."
I stared at her. "I just want to see Adriana. I really want to know if she's fine and safe. That's all I want to know."
She nodded in understanding. "I really didn't see your friend. I would have told you where she is if I saw her. I wish I could help you."
I grabbed her hand and pleaded, "Please, just help me talk to some of the guards. I know you're cool with some of them. Just help me ask them, please."
She saw how desperate I was. "I really don't know how to go about it, but I'll try my best. When I hear anything, I'll let you know," she said to me.
I was so grateful she was willing to help. "Thanks a lot. I really appreciate this."
She waved it off. "Now, let's head back to the kitchen. There are things you need to know. I'm sure you've met Lady Laura," she said to me.
I furrowed my brows, confused. "Who's that?"
"She's usually bitchy. I'm sure she came to you."
Then I recalled the lady who came to my room, the one who was staring daggers at me with her eyes. So, that was her name.
"Yeah, she did. She isn't the nicest woman ever. I don't think I can handle her at all."
She chuckled. "Things will be a little hard for you from the start, but when you get to know people a lot, you'll know how to avoid those things that can bring problems your way."
I nodded. "I'm fine. There's something else I want to ask."
She nodded for me to go ahead. "What is that?"
"Can you tell me your name? I don't know what to call you."
She chuckled. "Is that why you sounded like it's something serious?"
I shrugged. "It's serious to me."
"You can call me Maya," she said.
"Lady Maya will do," I said, and she chuckled. "I'm not a queen nor a princess, so why refer to me as that?"
"I just wish to," I said, and that was all.
We went to the kitchen to finish up the dishes. She told me about the fight she went to settle when she left me in Nicholas' room. Maya warned me to avoid arguments that might bring harm to me. I'll try my best to stay out of trouble, but I don't know how long it'll take me to get used to this place. I just need to find Adriana. If anyone can assure me that she's fine, then I'll be good, but no one is ready to say anything to me.
I went back to my room after a long day. The bruises on my body still hurt, but I'm trying my best to be strong. The same room I woke up in is the same room labeled as mine. Yes, there are labels on every door holding the name of the room owners. What I observed is the fact that I'm the only maid who doesn't have a roommate.
Yes, when you check across other doors, the label has either two or three names. Maybe it's because I just got here. I heaved a sigh and went to close the window. It was open. Just when I was about to close it, I saw a figure outside in the rain. Yes, it was raining heavenly. I looked closely, only to see that it was none other than the mafia king.
What was he doing in the rain, standing there?
