Chapter 53: Meeting Jane
While they were busy moving things, they heard a woman shouting outside.
"Hello! Please open the door!
Please let us in!
Hello!"
"Sir, it's a woman carrying 2 children," Zam reported after checking who it was through the window.
"Let them in," Treyton said.
Zam went downstairs to let the woman in. Afterwards, Zam went upstairs with the woman shouting outside.
Luciel and the others saw that the woman was clearly drenched by the rain, but the girl and boy she was carrying were tightly protected.
The girl and the boy were wearing several layers of clothes, and they were also in a transparent trash bag which was tied to their boots, so they still had a source of air and wouldn't suffocate.
"Thank you very much for letting us in; our house is already getting flooded, and Sophie also started to have a fever. Yesterday, I saw that you have a child with you. May I ask if you have any medicine? I will certainly repay it later. I also have plant superpowers; if you need them, I can surely produce some plants for you," the woman said pleadingly.
"Ok," Treyton simply agreed.
"Thank you very much!" The woman said happily.
She put down the boy she was carrying, and Zam, who was nearby, helped remove the trash bag that was covering the boy.
Treyton already agreed, so Nathan approached them and said, "I'm a doctor; let me check her condition first."
The woman handed the girl to Nathan while tearing the trash bag that was covering her, but she was careful not to touch the girl because she was still wet.
Nathan asked some questions regarding the girl and checked her condition.
"Don't worry, it's really just a fever; we still have medicine for fever," Nathan said after checking the girl's condition.
They got a lot of medicines when they stopped by several pharmacies while they were on the road.
Aside from the gas stations, they also always stopped by pharmacies whenever they saw one.
With Nathan by their side, they knew what medicine they had to take with them. Of course, he and Treyton don't need to choose at all.
They always get a lot of medicines from the pharmacies they were stopped by without caring what the medicines were for.
"Thank you very much!" The woman said with obvious relief in her tone.
"Please, go and wash up; we will take care of them first," Zam instructed the woman who was drenched.
Nathan had placed the girl on one of the sofas when he was checking the girl's condition. After the woman left, the boy just stayed near the girl while staying silent.
Nathan tried talking to the boy but was ignored, so they didn't bother them anymore and just waited for the woman who went to wash up.
Luciel also continued watching until the woman arrived and started telling them about themselves.
"My name is Jane; she is my daughter Sophie, and he is my friend's son Theo," Jane introduced themselves.
"My husband didn't manage to survive after fighting my friend and her husband, who turned into zombies. Before turning into a zombie herself, my friend managed to give Theo to me," Jane calmly stated, but they could still see that she was only acting calm.
"The three of us survived thanks to the groceries that I bought before because of the weather. I also went out to get some food later, when we finished all our stocks.
Our house is just across, so I saw you guys going into this building yesterday.
It suddenly rained heavily, and Sophie also got a fever this morning. I went to look for medicine, but I couldn't find any.
Then, the water level was already rising, so I had to try my luck here. I'm really sorry for our sudden intrusion. I will help with whatever I can," Jane said.
Luciel knew Jane was smart based on what she said when she just entered.
Even though she was asking for help, she still knew that most people wouldn't actually help if there wasn't any benefit they could get after helping. So, she also included saying that she had an ability to show that she still had value.
Based on what she said, it could be seen that she wasn't very willing to come to them, as she still looked for medicine before coming to them.
She was only willing to come to them because she couldn't find medicine and because of the rising water level.
Jane was also very careful when it came to the children that were with her. When she was removing the trash bag for her daughter, she didn't even try to touch the girl.
She was also very willing to go and wash up, even though she had to leave the children in the care of strangers.
Jane was obviously aware that there might be a problem with the water, so she was careful to ensure that the children didn't come into contact with the rainwater, even though she was drenched herself.
Luciel greatly appreciates such a person. Even though she lost someone, she didn't wallow in grief. She didn't give up on life, and she still did her best to do whatever she could for the children with her.
"Don't worry, you guys can stay here for a while. You can help by growing vegetables with your power. We are also going north after the weather clears up; you can decide whether to follow us or travel with us until then," Treyton said.
It seemed that Treyton also appreciates Jane's character; that's why he was even saying things in advance.
"Thank you very much!" Jane said again.
After settling Jane's affair, everyone went back to the things they were doing.
Jane also went with Nichole to start growing vegetables with her powers, while Nichole was also tasked with supervising her because she might be infected.
Even though Jane has superpowers, she had soaked with the running water for a long time because she was looking for medicine.
