Chapter 54: The three children
Those that came with them from Treyton's villa all slept on the third floor except for those that were assigned to guard at night.
But when Luciel woke up the next morning, he didn't see anyone on the third floor. Even though all of them slept late at night because they kept practicing, they still woke up very early.
As for him, he already knew that the rain wouldn't stop, so he didn't bother waking up early.
He went downstairs and saw that all the others were busy practicing again. They were really diligent. It seemed that they didn't want to waste their time relaxing just for a bit.
They were all using their time wisely, even though they couldn't go out because of the heavy rain.
Of course, just like him, there was also one exception, which was Ava. Luciel could see that she was just sitting on the sofa taking care of her nails.
"Ciel, you are finally awake. You can eat your breakfast now," Treyton said while pointing at the thermal food container on the table.
"You're all done eating?" Luciel asked while opening the food box on the table.
"Yes, you are the only one who still hasn't had breakfast; Ava just finished her lunch before you came."
It seemed that Ava also didn't wake up early, just like himself.
After eating breakfast, Luciel went to see how high the water level was. He was curious how high it has gotten since yesterday.
The rain hadn't stopped since it began, so he wanted to see how high the water level had risen.
When he checked from the stairs, he saw that the water on the first floor was already waist-high.
He also saw the appliances that were damaged floating around. It was a pity that he and Treyton didn't manage to get them because a lot of people were still present.
If the rain really wouldn't stop, it might really flood the whole first floor.
After looking at it a few more times, Luciel went back upstairs.
He saw that Ashlee, who was learning something from Calvin, finally had a break and was eating some snacks together with Sophie and Theo.
It can be seen that Ashlee was trying to be a good older sister. Among the three children, she was the oldest. Sophie was only four years old and Theo was five years old.
Ashlee was sharing her snacks with the other 2 children. He went to sit on the sofa in front of them and also started eating chips while listening to what they were talking about.
"Sister Ashlee, do you have more candies?" Sophie asked.
It seemed that Sophie was already feeling better compared to yesterday. Yesterday, she was sleeping most of the time and wasn't chattering as she is now.
"Yes, I have more; do you want more?" Ashlee asked.
"Yes, this is yummy!" Sophie said.
Ashlee went to get more of the chocolates they were eating and distributed them to Sophie and Theo.
The two of them talk more about different things, and their topics keep jumping from one thing to another.
Luciel was listening to their chatter with interest. With them talking about what adults considered to be nonsensical, it made him happier than looking at the adults who were diligently training their abilities.
Sophie was a very active child; she asked questions most of the time and also told stories, which Ashlee also responded to.
Compared to them, Theo was really a quiet child and mostly only nodded to their questions.
He must have been still shocked by the loss of his parents. According to Jane, Theo should have been present when his father changed into a zombie and bit his mother before he was rushed to Jane's house next door.
Even though Theo was silent, it could still be seen that he was very attentive towards Sophie and Jane.
It seemed that those events that happened to him not only shocked him but also made him mature early.
Yesterday, when Jane went to take a shower, they could see that even though Theo was just silently staying with Sophie, he was actually wary of them. He was very tense; he only relaxed when Jane came out.
Most of them actually noticed it, but they didn't say anything because they knew it would be useless. And being wary of strangers was a good thing to have, especially in the time they were in.
It's better to have such wariness so that they won't be sold somewhere because they were easily coaxed by others.
Being a child in such a chaotic time was a huge disadvantage. As a child, their strength was very small compared to adults.
Only those children who have certain ways to protect themselves could survive, aside from those children that have adults to protect them.
The survival rate of children at times like this was very low because they were very vulnerable.
Even though some people still saved children first, a lot of people still left children out there and even made them their escape goats or baits when they were in danger.
He has witnessed a lot of such cases in his past life, so he still appreciates children who can already think on their own.
It's also better for children to have some way to protect themselves; if Jane decides to go with them, Theo and Sophie should also start training. They could start running around first like Ashlee to gain more stamina.
While he was thinking about them, he saw something that Theo did.
Luciel wasn't sure of what he saw, so he watched them more carefully, but still not in a very obvious way so as not to disturb them.
He waited for a while, and sure enough, he saw it happen again.
As soon as he was sure of what he saw, he smiled widely.
"Treyton, come here; I just found a very good thing!" Luceil said happily.
He was really happy with what he discovered, so he immediately called Treyton.
