Chapter 42: How to deal with unreasonable people
They agreed that Treyton would be the first one to go to their space to rest because he was obviously more tired than Luciel because they kept fighting zombies in the day.
Luciel also didn't say anything about it because it meant that he could actually rest more in their space as long as Treyton acted as a lookout.
So, Luciel didn't rest deeply, as he was acting as a lookout for Treyton, who went to their space to rest.
When Treyton was staying in their space for an hour, cars drove in front of the grocery store, and it seemed that they planned on entering. There were still 15 minutes before the agreed 1 hour would be up. So, he immediately entered their space and called Treyton.
"Treyton, wake up; someone wants to enter the grocery store; the others should be calling you soon," Luciel said to Treyton, who was still resting on his bed.
"Then, let's go," Treyton immediately said.
As soon as they went out, someone knocked on the car door.
"Sir, sorry for disturbing you. Some people also wanted to rest here, and they even want us to move away," Nichole reported with obvious dissatisfaction in her voice.
"Ok, I'll go out in a bit," Treyton said.
Afterwards Treyton also went down but it seemed they weren't able to talk properly as Luciel could still hear their loud voices even though a lot of time had already passed.
Luciel was getting irritated because he could still hear how arrogant they were and keep talking nonsense.
"Why don't you guys move? It's very simple, right? All of us were already very tired because we kept fighting zombies. We wanted to rest here, so just move somewhere else."
"I just said that if you just wanted to rest, then all of you are welcome to stay with us. The grocery story still has space for you guys," Treyton answered calmly.
"No, you guys need to leave. We are uncomfortable staying with other people."
Luciel couldn't even sleep even though he wanted to; that's why he was so irritated with their talk that it was going nowhere, so he opened the car door and slammed it shut.
"Dear, I didn't know you had such patience in dealing with trash," Luciel said. He looked at Treyton with a smile while walking towards them.
"What did you say? Are you saying I'm trash?" The man said furiously.
Luciel didn't reply to the question but as soon as he got nearby, he threw the dagger he was holding to the person who was talking arrogantly and was currently furious. He seemed to be the leader of the group as the others were obviously following him.
The dagger hit the man's arm as intended, and the man screamed in pain.
"Aaaagh! I'll kill you!" The man said while glaring at him fiercely.
"Kill me? Who are you talking about? Why don't you guys leave while I'm still talking nicely?" Luciel sneered while removing the dagger from the man's arm and pointed it at his throat.
"You see, I wanted to sleep already, but you guys kept talking about something nonsense. While I'm still being nice, why don't you guys leave? Or do you want me to slit your throat right now?" Luciel said slowly while staring at the man darkly.
The man looked into his eyes then got scared as he called everyone to leave.
"L-let's go! Let's look for somewhere else to spend the night at," the man said, running back to their car in a hurry while clutching his wounded arm.
"See? Very easy, right? Just scare them a bit and they'll run away on their own," Luciel said while handing the dagger to Nichole while talking to Treyton.
The dagger was stained with blood, so he gave it to Nichole for cleaning.
After hearing what he said, Treyton chuckled and said with a smile, "Don't worry; next time I will surely follow your example."
"Yep! You better follow my example. Let's go; I want to sleep already," Luciel said while yawning and walking back to their car.
Luciel knew that Treyton and the others actually already knew that with such kind of people talking to them wouldn't get anywhere. So, in such situations, it would be better to just use absolute force to scare them.
They just weren't doing anything because they were bound by their experiences as soldiers. They were all soldiers and even grew up surrounded by them, so their views were also influenced by the army.
They were always told not to hurt civilians, so in a world that had just started to be chaotic, they were still unable to raise their hands against civilians.
They could easily deal with the zombies they were passing by because they knew they weren't people anymore. But they were still restricting themselves from using their force when they were dealing with civilians because of how they grew up.
They weren't soldiers anymore, so they were actually just citizens themselves, so they actually don't need to follow such rules. They were just still bound by the rules of a peaceful world, so they were unable to act properly.
After some time, all of those binds will also come undone, so they needed to have stronger principles of their own or have something to believe in so that they wouldn't be carried away by the dark emotions that the apocalypse brings.
Getting something by force would be a very normal phenomenon. Scaring others would just be considered to be mild by then.
Of course, Luciel doesn't want Treyton and the others to always rely on force, but he just wanted them to know how to deal with unreasonable people at this time because he was sure that they would still meet a lot of such people while they are going north.
And of course, the main reason why he dealt with those people was because he couldn't sleep properly because he got irritated by them.
