Chapter 306: Luciel in action 5
"Don't worry," Luciel replied, pulling a vine taut and bringing down another bird. "They'll hold out. I already took care of all the huge birds there before I started roaming. Even if more show up, they'll manage. After I'm done here, I plan on circling back to the villa anyway."
"What about you guys? Do you plan to stay here?" Luciel asked, slicing through another bird with his sword.
"No, we plan to head to the walls and help the soldiers there. Then we'll come back here later since it's nearby," Treyton replied, readying a barrage of sharp metal projectiles to attack a new wave of incoming birds.
"I see. Then I'll go with you guys for a bit before circling back to the villa."
"Yeah, thanks."
"Yes, you should thank me. I'm already out here killing a lot of these f*cking birds," Luciel said, his blade cutting clean through another avian target.
"Yeah, what do you want this time?"
Treyton knew him well. He already figured Luciel would ask for some kind of compensation later.
But Luciel already had everything he wanted—snacks, good food, and comfort—so he simply said, "Just owe me this time. I'll tell you later if I need something."
"Alright," Treyton agreed, then added, "You really use your ability well. It's seriously convenient, being able to jump around and stay in the air during times like this."
"Well, you should really train your ability to keep yourself afloat using your own powers," Luciel replied without looking at Treyton anymore, as there were more birds around him.
Treyton's abilities were all deadly and highly suited for combat. They were already very effective—it was just that he lacked Luciel's mobility and agility in the air.
But aside from being highly effective in combat, Treyton's abilities also had many other uses. For example, his lightning ability could be used as a power source if he learned to control it precisely. His metal ability wasn't just for offense—it was also useful for crafting weapons, building defenses, and many other practical applications.
As for flight, which Treyton had mentioned earlier, he could probably achieve something similar after more training. Even if it wasn't full flight, he could learn to use his abilities to stay airborne in the same way Luciel did—by manipulating his vines to jump between birds and nearby buildings.
As Luciel wasn't exactly flying either, he was just cleverly using his vines to keep himself in the air for longer periods of time.
True flight would probably be more easily achieved by those with wind abilities. With proper control, they could most likely sustain actual flight.
Treyton, with enough practice, could at least use his metal and lightning abilities to remain airborne for extended periods. It was all a matter of control and training.
The same applied to the others. They simply weren't used to aerial combat, which was why they didn't know how to fully utilize their abilities in the air.
Even those with wind abilities weren't particularly good at staying airborne and fighting effectively—take Nate, for example.
Nate was a strong fighter on the ground, but his wind ability could be much more useful in the current situation. However, he wasn't using it to its full potential.
Right now, Nate was only using his wind to help him jump higher so he could attack birds flying above and to create shields to protect others when large birds flapped their wings violently, disrupting their formation.
He was merely using his wind ability to hover briefly—an underwhelming use of his potential. But that was understandable. Nate wasn't trained to fight alone in midair, and going airborne without proper training was dangerous.
Fighting in the air made it easy to become a target, especially if he was distracted by one or two birds and didn't keep an eye on his surroundings. If his ability ran low and he needed to absorb a zombie crystal, he could easily get injured without backup.
The others couldn't always watch his back while he was in the air either, since they were also busy dealing with the flurry of birds attacking them.
All of them really needed to train their abilities further—especially in aerial combat—so that they could fight independently and effectively, even when off the ground.
After the bird attacks, Treyton would definitely push for everyone to start training specifically to deal with flying enemies—whether birds or other airborne threats they might face in the future.
As for Luciel, he didn't really need that kind of training anymore. He was already very familiar with aerial combat and had adapted his abilities to handle it well.
But aside from their lack of aerial capabilities, the others were actually performing quite well. Their abilities were incredibly lethal, even when simply thrown as projectiles. Treyton's lightning and metal attacks, Zam's sharp ice shards—abilities like theirs were the type others would envy.
Luciel, watching them fight, couldn't help but feel a small pang of envy too. But he never once thought his own ability was inferior.
His ability had its own advantages. It was incredibly convenient—he could grow fruits and vegetables for food, and more importantly, he could store his plant energy in the vines and use those during combat, which meant he didn't exhaust himself as quickly as the others.
While fighting, Luciel had seen many ability users run out of power while they were still fighting, and they were forced to stop using their abilities entirely. Meanwhile, he could still keep fighting, since he was using the energy he had already stored in the vines rather than using his own.
As for lethality, while his vines might not seem as deadly as lightning or ice right now, they were still effective. He could strangle birds that weren't too large, which was still enough for their current situation.
And Luciel knew that his ability still had a lot of potential. In the future, with the help of different plants, he was confident that his power could become just as lethal as the ability of the others.
