As the smoke cleared, the deck was strewn with corpses.

HuMing's eyes scanned the area—but Ruo Dan had vanished.

His pupils constricted sharply. He instinctively looked toward where Han YunXi had been.

And there—Ruo Dan emerged, blood at the corner of his mouth, a twisted grin on his face, a pistol pressed beneath Han YunXi's chin.

"HuMing, drop your weapon. You know I'm not bluffing. Since you're so eager to see me dead, then I'll let you watch someone you care about die first."

HuMing's eyes turned icy, his gaze locked on Ruo Dan. The fury in them was unmistakable.

For a moment, Ruo Dan actually flinched. But he quickly steeled himself. At this point, he was a desperate man. If he couldn't get out of here alive, he'd make sure someone died with him.

Han YunXi was held in a vice grip. She'd been hiding behind cover, afraid to move—but Ruo Dan had somehow found her. Now he was using her as leverage.

"Ruo Dan, your target is me, isn't it? But given the way things are now, even if you want to escape, you'll have to fight tooth and nail. Or… have you already picked your burial site?"

HuMing casually ejected the magazine from his pistol, his eyes never leaving Ruo Dan.

But Ruo Dan wasn't fooled. He didn't believe HuMing would be careless enough to show a real opening.

"I already told you, HuMing. If I can't make it out of here alive, I'm taking Han YunXi with me."

"Then why waste time talking? Let me guess—your mission was to kill me. And even if you do manage to escape, Gu ZhaoChuan probably won't let you live, will he? As long as you're alive, you're a liability. They can trace everything Gu ZhaoChuan did through you."

Ruo Dan's eyes narrowed, but he didn't deny it.

This time, if he escaped, he wasn't going to keep following Gu ZhaoChuan.

That man had helped him a lot—even saved his life—but he wasn't One-Eye. Nothing mattered more than his own survival.

So he wasn't about to die for someone else's sake.

"You know so much, HuMing. Why haven't you taken down Gu ZhaoChuan yet? Don't you understand what he means to you?"

HuMing chuckled.

But the laughter carried nothing but mockery. His face made it clear—he didn't think much of Gu ZhaoChuan at all.

"Of course I know what he means. He's stolen years of my life. Tried to have me assassinated. And yet? I'm still standing here, facing you. No matter what he throws at me, he can't kill me. Don't you get it yet? Beating him is effortless. I've just been toying with you all."

HuMing spread his hands slightly, as if exasperated.

To Ruo Dan, it felt like a slap to the face.

He had gone through so much—only for HuMing to call it a game?

But HuMing wasn't wrong. With an entire cargo ship full of armed men, they still couldn't stop him. He stood there, unharmed, unfazed. That alone proved how far out of their league he was.

"You're right. To you, maybe we're nothing but ants. But even ants can bite flesh off your bones!"

Ruo Dan began retreating slowly—toward a nearby speedboat.

It was his backup plan all along.

"HuMing. Open the door. You don't want to watch her die in front of you, do you?"

He shoved the gun harder against Han YunXi's chin. She winced, but didn't flinch.

Through it all, she forced herself to stay calm.

Getting captured had been a blow—but panicking would only give Ruo Dan more control over her.

HuMing was silent for a long moment, then slowly walked toward the lever.

The same lever Han ShuYi had failed to pull earlier now slid down easily under HuMing's hand.

The hatch groaned open, revealing an endless night and a sliver of moonlight glittering on the waves.

"She stays. Or you're not going anywhere," HuMing said coolly.

Ruo Dan scoffed. "Are you joking, HuMing? If I leave her behind, how the hell am I supposed to stay alive? She comes with me. When I'm safe, I'll give her back to you."

Bang!

The gunshot echoed through the chamber. Ruo Dan instinctively turned—

To see Han ShuYi standing with his gun raised, still aimed at him.

His expression was blank. The look in his eyes held no emotion.

"There's only one boat," Han ShuYi said. "And I've got the key." He gave the key in his hand a little shake.

Ruo Dan's face twisted. He hadn't even noticed Han ShuYi stealing it!

[He planned this from the start. He always intended to take that boat!]

"Han ShuYi, put the gun down. Or I'll kill her. Isn't she your sister?"

Han YunXi stared at Han ShuYi, unsure if he was looking at her or at Ruo Dan behind her.

Even now, she didn't know what Han ShuYi really thought.

Was she truly his sister to him? Or just a pawn to use against HuMing?

Then Han ShuYi laughed.

"My sister? Don't make me laugh."

His words stunned both Han YunXi and Ruo Dan.

Only HuMing furrowed his brows, sensing what Han ShuYi was about to do.

"You people don't get it." Han ShuYi raised his gun with one hand—and pulled the trigger.

Bang!

The bullet flew right past Han YunXi's face. She thought for a second she was dead.

"I don't care if Han YunXi dies. We're not even related by blood!"

The secret was finally out.

But to HuMing, what stood out wasn't the revelation—it was the look of relief on Han ShuYi's face.

Like he'd just broken free of a chain.

Han YunXi stood frozen, mind blank. She couldn't process what she had just heard.

But Ruo Dan understood instantly.

Han ShuYi wasn't bluffing.

He really would shoot her.

And without Han YunXi as leverage, Ruo Dan wouldn't make it out alive.

"Wait! Han ShuYi! Come with me! Don't you still want revenge? If we leave here together, we can still kill HuMing and Gu ZhaoChuan!"
