"You still haven't found Han ShuYi and that girl? What the hell are you people even doing?"
At this moment, Ruo Dan was nothing like the calm voice he projected over the radio.
He held a pistol in his hand, eyes warily scanning the situation outside.
What made him truly anxious was that despite his earlier warning, the people outside hadn't backed off.
To him, this was catastrophic news. If he needed to make a run for it, he'd have to abandon everything here.
But given the current situation, he had no other choice.
"Hold off the ones outside. Shoot on sight. They don't intend to let you live!"
Maybe it was because too many of their own had already died, but the others accepted Ruo Dan's orders without hesitation.
They had followed him this far. And now, if they didn't fight their way out, they were never getting off this ship alive.
Gunfire rang out again. Amid the chaos, the cargo ship had become a floating hell.
Bodies piled up on the deck. Wails echoed through the corridors, ceaseless.
Han YunXi stayed close to HuMing, witnessing the horrific carnage with her own eyes.
"HuMing, what do we do now? Should we look for Dad and the others?"
"Yeah. They probably realized this was a trap, which is why they didn't retreat. We need to find them and get out of here."
HuMing had originally planned to rush to the command room. But as soon as he saw that the police outside hadn't pulled back, he knew he couldn't take that risk.
The deck wasn't safe anymore either. Their only option was to escape through the lower levels of the ship.
There should be a backup vessel down there.
Just as they rounded a corner, HuMing ran into several people. Without hesitation, he turned back—
Bullets rained down where he had just stood.
Han YunXi covered her ears, teeth digging so hard into her lip she nearly drew blood.
HuMing pulled a smoke grenade and a flashbang from his belt and hurled them into the group.
"Aaagh!"
Screams erupted around the corner.
Those men dropped to their knees, clutching their ears in agony.
Seizing the moment, HuMing grabbed Han YunXi and bolted through the chaos.
Meanwhile, Ruo Dan had already learned of HuMing's location. He loaded his pistol and led his men in that direction.
He guessed HuMing would try to escape through the lower decks. He couldn't let him succeed.
…
Han ShuYi wiped blood from his face.
He'd killed one or two people already—without hesitation this time. He knew that if he didn't escape now, he'd never escape again.
Suddenly, the metal door behind him burst open.
Instinctively, Han ShuYi raised his gun—and found himself face-to-face with someone doing the same.
"HuMing?"
"Han ShuYi?"
Lowering his weapon, Han ShuYi blinked in surprise.
"You're not supposed to be here. Weren't you up on deck? Why the hell are you down here now?"
"We're taking a boat to get out of here. But looks like you were already way ahead of us," HuMing said, narrowing his eyes as he shut the door behind him.
"Whatever. I'm leaving." Han ShuYi reached for the lever to open the lower hatch—
But it wouldn't budge.
"Shit! Why the hell is this thing stuck?"
Panting, he let go.
HuMing was about to speak—when suddenly, the metal door behind them was blown open.
HuMing yanked Han YunXi aside and ducked behind a crate.
Over a dozen people charged in through the smoke and opened fire on Han ShuYi's position.
Han ShuYi's eyes widened. He dove behind a cargo container just in time.
Smoke billowed across the lower deck. HuMing covered his nose, squinting to watch what was happening through the haze.
"HuMing, I know you're in here," Ruo Dan's voice rang out. "So you infiltrated the ship all along, huh? I should've known not to trust that bastard Han ShuYi."
He fired at the container in frustration.
Curled into a ball, Han ShuYi gritted his teeth. His mind raced, trying to find a way out.
But blood ran down his arm—
A bullet had grazed him earlier.
The pain snapped his focus back into place.
If he wanted to make it out of here, he might really need HuMing's help.
From his angle, he could still see HuMing—and HuMing could see him too.
For some reason, in that instant, the two seemed to understand each other's intent.
HuMing pulled a grenade from his pocket and lobbed it into the crowd.
The moment they saw it flying in, everyone scattered.
At the same time, HuMing tossed a smoke bomb and pulled on a nearby emergency breathing mask, disappearing into the fog.
Han ShuYi noticed the movement and began firing into the smoke, unbothered if he might hit HuMing in the process.
Screams rang out again and again from within.
HuMing shot without hesitation, every bullet a clean kill—giving no one a chance to react.
Han ShuYi's gunfire drew more attention. The enemies didn't even realize there was a enemy among them.
"HuMing's in the smoke! Be careful!"
Ruo Dan's voice shouted—
And HuMing used it to zero in on him.
He dashed straight toward the sound—
And found that familiar, wiry silhouette.
With a flying kick, he sent Ruo Dan sprawling. The man tumbled across the floor several times before slamming to a stop.
Ruo Dan tried to fight back. As he reached for his gun, HuMing's gaze turned ice-cold—
He kicked the weapon away and stomped hard on Ruo Dan's head.
The scene turned brutal.
"HuMing! HuMing!" Ruo Dan roared, furious at the thought of losing.
Maybe someone heard his scream, because gunfire quickly followed.
HuMing didn't have time to finish him off. He rolled to cover, while Ruo Dan scrambled away.
Pressing his back to the wall, HuMing swapped out an empty magazine and took a deep breath.
This chaos—
It brought back a familiar clarity.
He could feel everything behind cover slowing down. Bullets sliced past his ears, yet he felt calm.
The gunfire eased off. They were reloading.
HuMing peeked out—
And through the smoke, it was like he had x-ray vision. He could see all their silhouettes.
Every bullet he fired hit someone in the head.
Screams echoed again and again—
But HuMing didn't flinch.
The gunfire gradually faded. The smoke slowly dispersed.
Standing in place, HuMing stared coldly at the carnage in front of him, his gun still smoking…
