Two corpses lay beside HuMing. He had changed into one of their uniforms and, by now, had a clear understanding of how many people were on the ship—and who knew about Han YunXi's whereabouts.

After tidying up quickly, he headed for the deck. Fortunately, no one had realized who he really was along the way.

He walked directly toward the cabin, but halfway there, HuMing suddenly stopped in his tracks.

Standing in front of him wasn't a stranger—it was Han ShuYi.

The two locked eyes in silence.

After a moment, Han ShuYi finally spoke.

"I did what you asked. Everything beyond this point isn't my responsibility anymore. So… goodbye, HuMing."

He turned to leave. Now that HuMing was here, Han YunXi's safety was no longer his concern.

"Wait."

HuMing's voice stopped him.

Han ShuYi narrowed his eyes and looked back, wary.

"You're not thinking of dragging me back with you, are you? HuMing, in a situation like this, you still have time to worry about me?"

"No," HuMing replied calmly. "I just want to ask… why did you go this far? In my memory, you've always only cared about yourself."

The words were blunt, but they reflected HuMing's honest thoughts.

Despite what Han ShuYi had done to help recently, HuMing couldn't forget the innocent people he had killed.

Han ShuYi gave a cold laugh.

"I told you—none of this was for you. I did it for the Han family. I protected Han YunXi for Zhou WenLi's sake."

He couldn't forget everything Zhou WenLi had done for him. Even if her kindness had come from his manipulation, it had been genuine.

He wasn't her real son. And now, with Zhou WenLi's only daughter in danger, he couldn't stand by and do nothing.

He'd held onto a sliver of hope.

But that sliver could very well cost him his life.

Which was why, after this, he'd never do something like this again. He was done.

He turned away and didn't look back.

HuMing drew a deep breath and pushed open the door to Han YunXi's room.

The moment he stepped in—a can came flying straight at his face.

He ducked just in time to avoid it.

Han YunXi stood inside with a fork clenched in her hand, glaring defensively.

He was dressed like one of the crew, and she had assumed he was here to harm her. But when she got a better look, her eyes widened, and the fork clattered to the floor.

"Hu...HuMing?"

He closed the door behind him.

She immediately rushed into his arms, clutching his waist and trembling with suppressed sobs.

The last few days had been terrifying. That scene of the child being thrown overboard still haunted her.

She had truly believed HuMing had been killed by Han ShuYi.

She couldn't believe it—HuMing had actually survived!

Han ShuYi hadn't pulled the trigger.

In that moment, Han YunXi didn't even know how to feel about Han ShuYi anymore.

"You're okay. Good. Now we need to get out of here."

He grabbed her hand and carefully pushed open the door, checking for danger.

Then—blinding lights suddenly swept across the deck from above, flooding the cargo ship.

A man's voice boomed from the sky:

"Everyone on the cargo ship, listen up. Drop your weapons and surrender immediately! This is your final warning—drop your weapons and surrender!"

Gunfire broke out almost instantly.

A fierce firefight erupted above. HuMing could already guess who was involved.

Panic erupted outside their cabin.

"Cops! Why are there cops here?! Where the hell is the radar guy? Why didn't he give a heads-up?"

"He's dead—along with the others in the comms room! There's a mole on this ship!"

The man's voice was shaking with fury—he was desperate to find the traitor.

HuMing and Han YunXi didn't move. They needed to get out of this place—but not until everyone's attention was on the top deck.

Suddenly, Ruo Dan's voice came through the ship's PA system. Despite the chaos, his tone remained calm and cold.

"Mr. Han, maybe Mr. Gu doesn't care about the people on this ship—but can you say the same? Your daughter is in my hands. If you want her to live, call off the helicopters and speedboats now!"

Han YunXi's face went pale. She wanted to rush out and scream that she was fine.

But she couldn't. If she was spotted now, she really would be taken hostage.

HuMing's eyes lowered, growing dark.

If the helicopters pulled away now, the search would shift below deck—straight to her.

He had to take a risk.

Grabbing her hand, he bolted from the room.

Someone spotted them—only to catch a bullet between the eyes from HuMing. The man dropped, lifeless.

He had to get to the command center and take control from Ruo Dan.

Up in the helicopter, Han LiTian and Gu WeiJun stared down at the chaos. The entire ship was swarming with people—no telling if Han YunXi and HuMing were among them.

Moments ago, someone had shouted "They're killing witnesses!"—and the whole ship had erupted.

The officers who'd just landed on the deck couldn't even return fire properly.

They needed to ensure the hostages' safety. But the enemy clearly didn't care.

Ruo Dan's broadcast made Gu WeiJun clench his fists. He glanced sideways at Han LiTian.

This was their first time meeting. He was curious—what kind of man had raised HuMing?

But right now, there was only one priority: keeping Han YunXi safe. Whether she was actually in Ruo Dan's hands or not, they couldn't risk it.

He grabbed his earpiece and gave the order:

"Pull back for now. Be ready to respond immediately if—"

"No."

Han LiTian cut him off. "We can't do that. If we back off, HuMing and Han YunXi could be in even more danger."

"But her safety—aren't you worried? As her father, you know this isn't something we can afford to gamble on!"

"I'm not gambling."

Han LiTian's voice was tight with emotion. "I trust HuMing."

Though his heart felt like it was about to leap out of his chest, Han LiTian knew one thing for sure:

If HuMing was there—he would never let Han YunXi get hurt.

Gu WeiJun bit his lip and fell into silence.
