The massive cargo ship left a trail of white foam in its wake as it gradually slowed. Ruo Dan gave the order for everyone to rest for a bit before continuing their voyage.

Clearly, this wasn't their final destination.

Han ShuYi leaned against the railing, quietly observing. On the neighboring cargo vessel, people were boarding in droves, carrying bags large and small, some even with children in tow—like they were fleeing their homes entirely.

It struck him as odd.

His confusion only deepened when he spotted a dozen or so figures sneaking toward the ship, moving with clear caution.

He narrowed his eyes—something felt off.

If he wasn't mistaken, those people were illegal stowaways. But where were they trying to go?

Han ShuYi didn't dwell too long on it, though. Right now, what he really needed to consider was whether he could sneak Han YunXi off the ship and escape.

But the dock was heavily guarded. Armed men stood watch, scanning every corner like hawks.

Escape wouldn't be easy.

He gave it some thought and ultimately decided to give up on the idea for now.

"Can we leave this place yet?"

Han YunXi's sudden voice behind him made him jump.

He spun around instinctively. "Why are you out here?"

"You said someone would come to rescue me, so I came to see what's going on. What are those people doing down there? And what is this place?"

Han ShuYi shook his head, glancing back at the crowd—and spotted Ruo Dan among them.

At the moment, Ruo Dan was examining the newcomers as they boarded, one by one handing him cash.

That other ship must also belong to Ruo Dan.

He was this rich and still kept such a low profile?

Han ShuYi propped his chin on one hand, eyes narrowing as he watched the busy workers haul crates aboard. Each crate was flanked by men on high alert, like they were transporting something highly sensitive—or dangerous.

He had no communication tools on him—Ruo Dan had destroyed his phone for "safety reasons."

Still, Ruo Dan hadn't dared to kill him. Han ShuYi held too much leverage.

What Ruo Dan didn't know was that Han ShuYi had a tracker on him—and there was no way he'd ever find it.

Han ShuYi allowed himself a small, satisfied smile. Once HuMing arrived, he'd take the jet ski he'd stashed and get out of here.

More and more people were being herded aboard the cargo ship. Supposedly, they were being sent somewhere to work.

Han ShuYi didn't believe a word of it.

No doubt Ruo Dan was planning to sell them off and make a fortune.

"Waaah!!"

A child's sudden wail rang out across the ship.

Han ShuYi and Han YunXi turned toward the sound. A woman was clutching a crying child tightly, doing everything she could to soothe him.

But a man stormed up to her, shouting angrily.

"Can't you shut him up? If you can't, get the hell off!"

"Please, sir, do you have any food? He's just hungry. Just give him a little something to eat—he'll stop crying."

"Food? You think this is a charity? If he cries again, I swear I'll throw him overboard!"

The man glared menacingly at the child, clearly trying to terrify him.

And it worked—the child's cries only grew louder and more desperate.

The woman hugged her son tighter, whispering softly to him, but it was no use.

At last, the man lost his patience. He yanked the boy out of her arms—and in front of everyone, threw the child into the sea.

It happened so fast that Han YunXi couldn't even react.

The woman screamed. She clutched her head and cried out over and over again, "My child!!"

From the water came the faint sound of the child's cries. The woman didn't hesitate—she dove in after him.

Whether they survived or not… that was up to fate.

"He—" Han YunXi started to speak, but Han ShuYi stopped her with a look.

There was nothing they could do here.

After that, no one else on the ship dared make a sound. Even breathing too loudly felt dangerous.

The vessel churned through the sea, likely heading to international waters.

[HuMing, why aren't you here yet?]

Han ShuYi looked up at the sky, never imagining he'd one day be hoping for HuMing's arrival.

Below deck, inside the cargo hold, a figure emerged from the stacks of crates.

The man covered his nose, scanning the area. Once he was sure no one was around, he exhaled in relief.

Sneaking onto this ship had been no easy feat. He'd originally planned to pose as a stowaway—but the risk of being recognized by Ruo Dan had made him choose a different route.

This storage room wasn't filled with food or drinks—but with weapons. An overwhelming number of crates filled with military-grade firearms and ammo.

Enough for Ruo Dan's entire ancestry to fire to their heart's content and still have leftovers.

HuMing stuffed two handguns into his jacket, then grabbed a few more essential tools.

He'd already sent the ship's location to Gu WeiJun—though he hadn't expected Han LiTian to get involved, too.

Quietly, he pushed open the cargo hold's door. The hallway was empty—not a guard in sight. Compared to the tight security from this morning, it felt bizarrely relaxed.

He wasn't familiar with the ship's layout, so he had to stay out of sight.

"Wait, you really tossed that little brat into the sea? And that woman jumped after him? That's hilarious."

"Too noisy. I hate kids. But man, you should've seen her shriek like a lunatic. Funniest thing I've seen in ages."

The two men laughed, clearly amused by their cruelty.

With all the lives they'd taken, two more didn't mean anything to them.

"Ugh, my stomach!"

"Again? I told you not to eat so many oysters before boarding. Bet you crapped yourself already."

"Shut up. Hold my gun—I need to hit the toilet."

"I'll wait outside."

The man hurried into the bathroom, humming a tune and swaying his head like an idiot.

But when he came out, his companion was nowhere in sight.

"Hey, where'd you go?"

He looked around, puzzled. As his gaze drifted toward the corner, he spotted a familiar sleeve—his buddy's shirt.

But something about the silhouette felt… off.

He cautiously stepped forward.

As soon as he turned the corner, the world spun—and everything went black.
