Chapter 113: Kitten and Puppy Picking Faults
Although it wasn't very useful, it could still serve as her spy in the Nightshade Family.
But...
To Eleanor Spencer's surprise, Aunt Li not only didn't thank her, but glared at her resentfully, leaving Eleanor momentarily stunned.
What happened? Where did it go wrong? Why didn't things go according to her plan?
Aurelia Shaw glanced at her coldly and said, "This is our family matter; it's not your place as an outsider to intervene."
Out... outsider?!
Eleanor Spencer's forehead veins popped, and she clenched her fingers tightly. How dare they call her an outsider! Publication courtesy of M|V|LE-MPYR.
"I grew up with Mason Nightshade. I'm practically part of this family. How... how can you say I'm an outsider?" Eleanor Spencer, ever the schemer, managed to squeeze tears from her eyes at such a moment, "Is it because Mason stayed over at my place last night, you're upset? Nothing happened between us, let me explain. If you're angry, take it out on me. Don't lash out at the servants, and don't upset Auntie."
"Oh? So Mason spent the night at your place yesterday?" Aurelia curled her lips.
A calculating light flashed through Eleanor Spencer's eyes. Feigning shock, she quickly explained, "Nothing happened between Mason and me. Please don't misunderstand. Auntie can vouch for us."
"My leg's not in the best shape, so if Mason had to satisfy his needs with some strays outside, that's perfectly normal. Why would I mind?" Aurelia said with a smile, her demeanor truly unfazed.
Eleanor Spencer was taken aback. This wasn't what she had planned; why was Aurelia reacting so calmly? And... strays outside? Did she actually compare her to a stray?
Who did she think she was, to dare compare her to a stray animal!
"Oh right, Mom, didn't you just ask me to leave? I'll go now and leave you guys to it." Aurelia picked up her bag, called the driver outside, and shortly seemed to be on her way, supporting her as she left.
As she passed by the living room entrance, she saw Jovana Shaw standing there. Aurelia paused, glanced at her, and Jovana felt a shiver run down her spine, raising a cute, innocent smile, "Sister, I brought the soup. Is Brother-in-law here?" she looked inside as she asked.
Aurelia ignored her and walked past.
Sophie Nye and Eleanor Spencer exchanged glances, and Sophie exclaimed angrily, "What does she mean by this?"
Eleanor Spencer's eyes reddened, tears threatening to spill, "Could it be that Aurelia was upset? It's all my fault; if I hadn't said those things to her, she wouldn't be so unhappy. Auntie, maybe I should go after her and apologize, in case... it harms her relationship with Mason..."
"Don't bother with her!" Sophie Nye's face darkened, but seeing Eleanor so considerate and gentle, she couldn't help but feel sorry for her, "Don't worry, Isabel, if we ignore her, she'll come back on her own. Where else can she go besides here? She'd love to stick around all day."
"Come, let's go shopping with Auntie. Last time, I saw a dress I liked. Help Auntie decide if it looks good."
"Okay." Eleanor Spencer nodded obediently. She had only asked about Aurelia offhandedly, and her not returning was just what she wanted. Even better, if she never came back.
A cold light flashed in Eleanor Spencer's eyes, but her face remained softly smiling, "Auntie, you're so beautiful and look so young, everything looks good on you."
