Chapter 12
Chapter 12: Dark Demon Survives
On Tuesday, the classes were Dueling, Arithmetic, and History of Magic.
Professor Pavar Jones, who was one-sixteenth giant bloodline, taught the first-year Dueling class!
Moreover, she was the headmistress of the Noble Academy!
By the way.
The headmistress of the Knight Academy was Professor Sarah Shylph, who taught Summoning.
The headmistress of the Mana Academy was Professor Lily Laplace, who taught Arithmetic.
The headmistress of the Fool’s Academy was Professor Didi Maxwell, who taught History of Magic.
As is typical in Galgames, all four heads were women!
Saint Maryann Academy exuded an atmosphere of femininity and male deficiency from its name to its principal and professors.
Professor Jones, with her one-sixteenth giant bloodline, had parts that were larger than those of ordinary humans. She had short, neat hair, agile muscles, bronze skin, and overly developed secondary sexual characteristics, exuding a robust healthiness.
Despite Dark’s lack of interest in this over-two-meter-tall professor, she seemed quite popular in the academy.
It was rumored that Professor Jones’ giant bloodline came from the royal family of giants, while her father was a legitimate human noble. Although her race wasn’t pure, her nobility was unadulterated!
In Saint Maryann, both male and female seniors admired Professor Jones, which could be seen as admiration for strength!
Whether in the Noble Academy or the Knight Academy, new students looked forward to Professor Jones’ Dueling class.
However, this lesson only covered very basic theoretical knowledge, including rules of dueling competitions, tactics, combinations of magic cards, and mutual restraints between racial attributes…
The good news was that the recruitment for the Dueling Club would be held on Friday afternoon this week.
The bad news was that the prerequisite for joining the club was owning at least a set of twenty magic cards!
This bad news caused the eager new students to despair!
Just two days into the semester, who could have twenty magic cards?
But if you couldn’t even gather a set of cards, what was the point of joining the Dueling Club?
…
The next Arithmetic class was even more tedious and difficult than the Dueling class.
Freshmen found it unbearable, saying it was definitely the hardest class in first year!
Diana said she had been daydreaming throughout the entire class.
Rose, although attentive, looked confused, clearly also half-understanding.
As for Dark,
Dark didn’t listen at all.
Such elementary-level math was an insult to his intelligence!
[Arrogance +1]
Professor Lily Laplace, who taught Arithmetic, was apparently an Imp, a cross-race related to the Elven race.
Like the Elven race, they possessed long lifespans and accumulated wisdom over time.
Professor Laplace preferred being called Professor Lily by her students.
Similar to most Imps, her physical growth halted around the age of eleven or twelve, making her look younger than the freshmen present.
Her height was comparable to Diana’s.
Additionally, she had dragonfly wings and liked to expose her feet, never touching the ground.
The History of Magic professor for the third class—Professor Didi Maxwell—was also an Imp.
She had butterfly wings and appeared much older, with deep wrinkles on her forehead.
Professor Didi’s teaching style, like Professor Lily’s, was rigidly textbook-based.
They might possess profound knowledge and wisdom, but they weren’t suited for teaching…
History of Magic was notoriously boring, but Professor Didi was very kind and gentle. Even if a student fell asleep during class, she would gently tap them and deduct only five or ten points.
…
Additionally, Professor Didi was responsible for the Astronomy class on Wednesday evenings.
However, Astronomy was an “interest” class, only held when Professor Didi announced it.
This meant there would be no Astronomy class for the first month of school.
Similarly, Monster Beast Mastery on Friday!
It was rumored that Monster Beast Mastery would start in the next semester and might be further delayed.
First-year students weren’t allowed outside the castle, making it hard to learn Monster Beast Mastery well.
Thus, there were only six classes per week: Summoning, Mana Theory, Potions, Dueling, Arithmetic, and History of Magic, each with two sessions.
This could be considered very relaxed!
…
Library…
Before Pandora arrived, Dark finished registering and secured a seat in the Reading Room.
Then he took out the Arithmetic exercise book and started solving problems.
These questions were too simple!
With the multiplication table, Dark swept through effortlessly.
When Emma sat down behind him, he had completed about half.
By five o’clock in the afternoon, he had finished the entire exercise book!
This meant that the Arithmetic homework for the semester was basically done.
Dark closed the exercise book, satisfied, and placed it on the upper left corner of the table.
Because his mindset was calm while doing the problems, he did not trigger the “Greed” indicator.
But when he felt happy about it, he saw “Arrogance +1” in his vision!
“Does this mean I can be proud of solving elementary math problems?”
Dark was shocked!
Emma was equally shocked!
Emma couldn’t imagine how Dark could finish an entire exercise book in such a short time!
They were all first-years; why could you be so impressive?
Shocked, Emma doubled her efforts to self-study Arithmetic!
…
After finishing his homework, Dark watched the “Arrogance” index remain stubbornly high, though he didn’t show it externally.
“Am I really that arrogant?” Dark began to reflect.
…
This question led him to ponder for a whole month.
He didn’t even know how he managed to get through it!
But life is like being watched by a mad girl; since resistance is futile, one must learn to enjoy it.
Dark became the most eye-catching star among the first-year freshmen!
Every morning at six, he would wake up and arrive at the Common Room precisely at 6:15.
His familiar would circle around the castle, enter through the kitchen ventilation shaft, and come from outside.
The halfling chef loved this little demon beast that always brought small gifts.
Though these gifts were just river stones, wildflowers, clovers under the sunset, and colorful feathers…
They were the best gifts a small familiar could find.
Halflings would pin flowers in their hair, imprint clovers on cards, and store stones and glass shards in jars.
Every morning, the little demon beast would fly in on time.
Then they would hand him a basket filled with snacks and milk.
The little demon beast would grab the basket with its thick claws and fly steadily back to the tower dormitory of the Noble Academy.
Dark was accustomed to eating breakfast in the Common Room.
Eating while reading books effectively reduced the chances of triggering “Gluttony” and “Greed.”
This was his personal experience!
After finishing, the little demon beast would return the basket to the kitchen.
Dark would continue reading in the Common Room.
Only when the人流increased would he head to the classroom for the first lesson.
At first, he was always the first to arrive, but later he noticed that for classes taken with the Knight Academy, someone else always arrived earlier.
Fortunately, the first female lead in the game hadn’t matured yet and wasn’t within his hunting range.
Compared to the troublesome Diana, Emma was like a harmless kitten.
Diana gradually became more persistent.
It started with Arithmetic homework.
Diana lacked talent in Arithmetic, and Rose wasn’t much better.
So these two close friends turned to Dark, who was beginning to show “scholar” qualities.
Reluctantly, Dark taught them a secret technique—”columnar calculation!”
Columnar calculation involved writing calculations vertically, making them easier to solve.
Lily Professor stole this technique and spread it throughout Saint Maryann.
For knowledgeable Imps, this method was unnecessary, but for beginners, it was a godsend.
Lily even named it “Dark’s Columnar Calculation” and gave Dark fifty points!
This troubled Dark—”Arrogance” increased again!
Dark was already mindful of his emotions, but the seven deadly sins could still catch him off guard!
…
Although he tried to avoid social interactions and pursued a life of detachment and tranquility, the more he did so, the more he stood out among the immature freshmen.
No one cared about the rumors before enrollment; everyone judged Dark based on what they saw.
Diligent, wise, handsome, albeit a bit cold, wasn’t that the image of a high-ranking person?
In contrast, Wit Gold, son of another “Kingdom’s Dual Swords,” paled in comparison.
Wit lacked elite pre-school education and only learned to read and memorize addition and subtraction in church.
Though he was smart, his youthful nature kept him distracted by Robert, who dragged him everywhere.
Proximity to the virtuous brings virtue, proximity to the wicked brings wickedness. Without Emma’s guidance, Wit was surrounded by Robert, naturally falling into bad habits.
Plus, he often drifted off during lessons, leading to poorer academic performance.
Just as the protagonist and antagonist roles in the original story were about to reverse, a card game called “Love Divination” suddenly became popular among first-year students.
…
But this had nothing to do with Dark, who remained in his routine.
After the second class every morning, he would go to the cafeteria for a modest lunch, usually returning to the Common Room by around 12:05.
Then he would brew a cup of coffee and continue reading.
If there were assignments he could complete immediately, he would do them first.
After finishing, he would continue reading.
The little demon beast would bring some cookies and snacks, which wouldn’t trigger “Gluttony.”
The books he read were no longer textbooks but borrowed from the library, about “Mana Theory” and “Potions.”
Occasionally, due to excessive immersion, the “Greed” value slowly increased.
After the third class in the afternoon,
he would head to the library as usual.
After the initial shock, meeting eyes no longer triggered “Bliss +1.”
But Pandora’s senior’s body was too provocative, always causing him to flee in panic.
Sometimes, he heard light laughter behind him.
Its meaning was unclear.
…
Among the seven values,
“Laziness” was the easiest to control.
Dark never expected himself to be so resilient; the “Laziness” value decreased instead of increasing after a month of effort!
Next was “Envy.”
The first-year textbooks were too simple. With enhanced mana and qualifications from his demon god bloodline, he excelled not only in Arithmetic but also in Summoning, Mana Guidance, and Potions!
The only one comparable in qualifications was Wit, who inherited the hero’s bloodline.
But Wit wasn’t serious.
Therefore, Dark found no one to envy.
Apart from occasionally feeling envious when seeing freshmen enjoying themselves or chatting about youth, “Envy” didn’t increase or decrease much.
But as time passed, instances of feeling envious increased…
Another emotion building up inside him was “Wrath!”
Yes, he could always suppress “Wrath,” but the anger towards his demon god bloodline and the auxiliary system remained deeply rooted in his heart, growing stronger.
If it ever erupted…
Dark was worried about this.
“Greed” was still within control but posed a risk of sudden outburst.
In contrast, “Bliss,” though less concerning, increased significantly due to Diana becoming increasingly clingy—she went from being alone to bringing a friend!
Dark Diemon, reaping what he sowed!
Each time Diana leaned in to ask about homework, he couldn’t resist wanting to pinch her soft, pink cheeks.
This significantly boosted “Bliss.”
The problem was, this value only increased!
Dark once considered breaking it using “Sage Mode!”
But he dared not try, fearing an instant explosion!
Surprisingly, the hardest to control was “Arrogance!”
Dark originally thought it would be the easiest to control, given his past life’s memories. Even if influenced by this life’s personality, he believed he could gradually shed that arrogance.
However, he never imagined that his past life’s memories were the true poison!
Seeing the “Arrogance” indicator reach over a hundred by month-end, turning from ripe red to dark purple, he felt utterly defeated.
