What is the meaning of 'Forever'?

The standard meaning is 'For all future time; for always.'

There are many definitions for that word and it has been taken for granted countless times.

Forever - to cherish and love you till the end. This was Su Lian's definition and this was one of her thoughts as she followed the man she promised her heart into her apartment.

The bold statement earlier at dinner caught her off guard but her senses returned quickly enough for her to give him a positive response.

There was no hesitation. Trust played a big role in her answer and confidence was added because she wanted to state her intentions early also.

A silly smile spread across her lips when she raised her left hand. The Yellow-Gold Cartier's LOVE bracelet hung on her wrist delicately and the embedded diamonds glittered, dazzling her already hazy eyes as it moved.

A sign of promise, he called it.

In return, she gave her gift to him with the same moniker - A sign of Promise.

The Gold Tiffany link bracelet slid down Chen Kai's wrist as he placed her flower case on the waist-high bookcase. Su Lian's smile softened as she watched Chen Kai's movements unabashedly. He was meticulous in finding the perfect position for the display case. He even went as far as re-arranging the accompanying knick knacks around it.

When he turned around to face her, his eyes held a bit of puzzlement.

"Not tired?"

He walked back to her position. That's when Su Lian realized that she hadn't moved from the closed door.

"Hehe, uh yes." A light blush was on her face, thinking of how silly she looked before him.

Chen Kai did notice her dazed behavior and thought it cute. Everything about her will be pleasing in his eyes. Returning to her side, he helped her out of her coat and helped her to sit on the cushioned stool beside the shoe cabinet.

Su Lian didn't protest his actions. She allowed herself to be taken care of by him. She silently watched on as he went on bended knees and held her ankle in his hands. Each action of removing her high-heels and rubbing her slightly aching feet was smooth.

Was this practiced? Did he do it before? Was it with her?

"No."

"Huh?" Su Lian came back to her senses when she heard him speak. Raising her eyes slightly, she found him already watching her. He didn't hide the amusement on his face. Moving closer, he placed his arms around her waist and subtly moved his body between her legs. "Kai. This is...

not good," she voiced aloud after noticing their new position. Her already warm body gradually got hotter the more he moved against her. She couldn't tear her eyes away from him.

She reached out, using her fingertips to trace his sharp eyebrows and the contours of his face. The coveted campus Male god was hers.

"I haven't done that with her. We never went on traditional dates nor were we intimate like this. I can proudly say that all my firsts will be with you." His dark eyes glanced at her dress that had been creeping slowly up her thighs the more he moved between her legs. One slight press against her slightly thick thigh caused a subtle ripple that made his head hot.

His restraint was being tested. Wanting some type of distraction he clutched at her waist and pushed her forward.

Su Lian was startled by this move. She couldn't give a retort. Her words were blocked by eager lips pressed against hers. The kiss was wild and full of unease. The sounds of lips dancing with each other were soft to their ears. She wrapped her arms around his neck and widened her legs to pull him closer.

He nipped her lips and then squeezed her waist in warning.

The tangling of breath, their ambiguous posture, and the flush from their passionate kiss created a shaky atmosphere. If they go further into this impulsive kiss, he may be spending the night with her.

Now wasn't the time.

Chen Kai got to his feet and pulled Su Lian into his arms - princess style. She held onto him with ease and great comfort, neatly placing her head in the crook of his neck and shoulder.

He carried her to her bedroom, speaking to her softly about the plans for their day out the next day.

"Whenever you want to take a break, you can make a trip out there."

She hummed lightly as she was let down. "What if I want to visit you at home?" she asked, glancing at him through her fallen hair.

"You're welcome anytime," he replied, brushing her hair from her face with his fingers. "Next weekend I will bring you over." Chen Kai watched with great fascination as her red locks fell through his fingers.

He had to admit - his woman was gorgeous with this new look. The college girl's look was shed and a maturity was added to her beauty. Her eyes were more vibrant and her skin was brighter.

A woman who can make you fall to your knees. His woman.

Leaning forth, he placed a kiss on her forehead. "I have to leave," he whispered.

Su Lian felt his lips curve into a smile against her head and responded by moving into his arms. "One more hug."

"One more."

The drive back to the villa was faster than expected. It was nearing 10 PM when he smoothly parked in the garage. The system projected the progress of the array and the present time. He glanced at it when he entered his home, making a beeline for his courtyard.

He was about to enter his quarters when he felt a familiar rhythm of steps following him. "Why are you up?" he asked without turning his head.

"The energy around the estate has been changing for a while now."

Chen Yan followed his brother into the master quarters, quietly waiting for an explanation. Since he transmigrated into this body and reclaimed his cultivation, he had a sense of how dense the spiritual energy on this star was.

Because of the cultivation technique that has been embedded in his soul, he was able to gradually return to the same body he had when he was 12 years old Prince Vance. He can now sense the shift in the environment around him and use spells for self-defense or boredom.

This energy shift wasn't worrisome. It just felt familiar. He knows the only person who can answer him truthfully will be his brother.

He sat on the bench outside of the dressing room, patiently waiting on Chen Kai.

It was a few minutes wait when his brother returned to the main room dressed in a simple black t-shirt and sweatpants.

Chen Kai had a doting look on his face as he approached his little brother. He reminded himself to talk to XiaoYan about the system but he had so many things to handle. Tousling the kid's hair, he motioned for him to follow.

He led XiaoYan to the backyard and thought over his opening speech. To tell him about the system, he had to tell him the truth.

They weren't real brothers.

After giving it more thought, judging by Vance's reaction to his 'brother's' changes back then, he believed the kid had some doubts but couldn't figure it out.

"My true name is ... was... Li Yun."

He watched XiaoYan's reaction. A confused look was on his immature face. He decided to go further with the talk.

"I have lived five lives if you count the one that was given to me through natural birth. I lived as Li Yun for 24 years but died due to a rare heart disease. The doctors gave me a time frame of 23 years but I was able to get an extra year." His voice was low and unhurried.

The cool night breeze touched their skins as they stepped onto the neatly kept lawn. Nature's nightlife was in its full glory either dancing or singing in the darkness.

"When I closed my eyes for the last time, I was relieved. Relieved that I felt no more pain, was no longer sick, and was no longer a burden for my parents. After the relief, I became confused. Why did I still have my consciousness? I became scared. Scared of the unknown.

I can only hear my thoughts, nothing else. What felt like forever came to an end. I... woke up but I was dying. It confused the shit out of me. I thought I was back to the beginning of my death but someone shouted Your Majesty.

It was ridiculous at the moment then I heard a voice explaining my situation. It called itself 'The System'. This system gave me two antidote pills. I took one and when I integrated with my new body, I rushed to save you. I became Vincent Deluge, Emperor of the Maison Empire."

XiaoYan stopped in his tracks and watched the man leisurely walking before him. The image of him as Emperor Vincent lapped over the present image of Chen Kai. Tall with a heroic air, wide shoulders that represent utmost support, and a majestic posture that oppresses those he disdains or who fear him.

This is his brother. This man will always be his brother no matter which name or body he holds.

"Are your doubts cleared now?" Chen Kai asked over his shoulder.

The changes in expressions that moved across XiaoYan's face were visible to the naked eye. He observed, waiting for some type of reaction. When he saw those brown eyes pooling with tears he became worried. Chen Kai made a move to return to the kid's side and cuddle him as he used to but XiaoYan laughed at his natural actions.

"It doesn't matter."

His words were clear. The smile was shadowed by his tears as he walked over to his big brother. "You both love me in your own ways and I'm fortunate to live this new life with you. Everything else is but history to us."

Chen Kai nodded in agreement and hugged him when he was within arm's length. "You became my only tether to that world, my only family, and have always been. I'm glad that you're with me in this world."

XiaoYan hugged him tightly before stepping out of his brother's embrace. He was 19 after all. Why should he cling to him?

"Me too." The little mumble and bashful look were in line with Vance's embarrassment when emotional praises.

The two walked further away from the main house until they were a few meters away from the private Dojo. Chen Kai told XiaoYan about his past lives and the role he plays as a host for 'The System.'

"There are many Sons of Destiny in each world they are the ones who help keep the law of causality intact. Each action is a reaction. The lives I lived were the main destiny lines. They are people who would have brought huge changes to their world. The system, in my opinion, is an intermediary. They help the higher authorities by dispatching or selecting transmigrators to patch a few things.

Some systems are probably created to stimulate the world. This present life given to me is part of my retirement package." He chuckled when he voiced the last sentence.

'System, please make the screen visible to XiaoYan.'

The holographic screen became visible to XiaoYan. He was slightly startled but Chen Kai explained to him what it was. He was then shown the array being engraved by the system.

"The energy shift felt familiar to you because it's one of the Spirit Gathering Array that was left by our ancestors. The system combined a protective array with it. This will cover the entire estate. Cultivating will be easier."

"What will be the source? Does this world have spirit stones or monster cores?" XiaoYan asked. His eyes were on the array, he deducted the depth in which they had to place the source materials at the specified connecting points.

"I have it covered."

On that last word, a wave of pure energy washed over him, replenishing his body and speeding up his cultivation progress. He turned his focus to his brother and saw a large jewel hovering over his brother's palm with golden sigils rotating around it, moving in different directions.

"This is a Mana Jeweled Heart from a Triple S Tier 7 Mana Eater monster from the second star I moved to. The energy is one of the purest in that dimension that has many uses, especially for monsters. The system assured me that there would be no threat to place it on this star."

Chen Kai looked at his brother. The golden sigils reflected in his black eyes swirled faster as time ticked by. The system reminded him of the optimum time to activate the array. "Create the entry points."

Chen Yan glanced at the holographic screen and then walked to the marked main point.

Closing his eyes, he sent out a wave of spiritual energy, creating paths to the allocated points. On the screen, purple-colored energy was rushing to the entry points, creating ley lines between each.

He slowly raised his arms from his side until it was in line with his shoulders. He made a violent grabbing motion before turning his hands to open his palms upwards.

At each position, slight tremors were seen, and clumps of earth were lifted above ground staying stationary 4 feet in the air. The nightlife in the area silenced themselves, waiting for the strange energy to move away from their territory.

Back at the main point, Chen Kai threw the sealed monster heart in the air, letting it hover above the estate.

[The time is 11.34 PM.]

Snap!

Chen Kai snapped his fingers. The sound was amplified by his spiritual energy which was the signal of the monster's heart cracking into small and large pieces. Using his index finger, he began to write a few characters in the open space before him. The blue-colored characters turned gold and flew towards the broken jeweled pieces in the sky.

They wrapped themselves around the shards and separated from the large main piece.

He waved his hand and sent the shards to the marked locations then allowed the main piece to descend to Chen Yan's position. They were all placed on the earth and covered by XiaoYan.

The two eyed the aerial view on the holographic screen. It showed the pure energy leaving the shards and instilling itself into the characters on the array before connecting via the ley lines created. In under three minutes, the array was activated.

The heavy surge that happened next was expected. The tension in their bodies lessened and their surroundings felt calmer and lighter, the air wasn't as stuffy as before. This was the effect of the pure energy clearing the polluted air. As time goes by, the land will be a miniature promised land.

[Congratulations dear host on creating a permanent home. You are named as the head of the household. Do you wish to establish the Sleeping Dragon as an ancestral home?]

A permanent home.

Chen Kai looked at the kid beside him. This was his family. He's no longer a transmigrator. This star will be his resting place.

'Yes!'

Under the system's reply, a separate screen was projected. His present identity was the only one highlighted, showing the updated version of his profile.

XiaoYan read his details, his eyes grew wider by the second as he read further down. The skills, the mastery, the academic achievements, his brother was at the top category of 'someone else's child.'

"As expected of my brother," he exclaimed with a hint of brotherly pride.

"Then you can't slack off. Brother expects the best from you," Chen Kai returned with a laugh.

"I know this."

It was late and though they didn't really need sleep to regain energy, they made their way back to get a bit of rest.

On the way, Chen Yan told him some things that bothered him when he was out with his new friends.

Chen Kai didn't comment on them. He was thinking about the points he brought up.

"Brother, don't you want to find your family?"
