Chapter 345: The Voyage 1/2
Due to the pirate captain's sudden attack, the nearest pirate to him had his throat slashed open by the captain's longsword.
The pirate fell onto the deck of the pirate ship, clutching his throat in horror. Blood gushed through his fingers, splattering across the deck—his fate was sealed.
Seeing this scene, the surrounding pirates were horrified. They quickly distanced themselves from their captain, drawing their weapons and pointing them at him, wary of further attacks.
For these pirates, witnessing a throat being slit was nothing new. In fact, their actions toward the islanders they raided were far more brutal.
What truly terrified them was the captain's bizarre behavior.
"Captain, what's wrong with you?" Shouts echoed from all directions as the pirates tried to snap their captain out of his madness.
However, the pirate captain ignored their calls, continuing to laugh maniacally while wildly swinging his sword in place.
As the pirates debated whether to subdue him, the captain suddenly stopped his frenzied slashing.
Before they could breathe a sigh of relief, what happened next sent chills down their spines.
Without hesitation, the pirate captain turned his sword's tip toward his own chest and plunged it in with all his strength.
As soon as the blade pierced his flesh, blood gushed from the wound like a fountain, yet the pirate captain showed no sign of pain or resistance.
He kept pushing the blade deeper, cutting his chest wide open, exposing his still-beating heart to the open air.
Then, with his rough hands, he reached into his chest and pulled out his own heart.
Staring blankly at the still-throbbing organ in his hand, the pirate captain collapsed onto the deck, lifeless, with an eerie smile frozen on his face.
This grotesque scene sent shivers down the spines of the remaining pirates.
"The... the captain committed suicide!!!"
A terrified scream echoed across the ship, and chaos quickly erupted among the crew.
At that moment, they completely abandoned their plans to attack Eriri and her companions' cruise ship.
"Vice-captain, what do we do now? The captain is dead. Should we still go after that merchant ship? Something feels really off about it," a pirate, his face filled with fear, hesitantly asked the dark-skinned man.
Recalling their captain's eerie suicide, the pirate instinctively shrank back in fear.
They all knew that the captain had started acting insane right after looking at the opposing ship through the telescope. It was highly likely that they had been hit by some kind of strange attack from the other side.
The wisest decision at this moment would be to retreat at full speed and stay as far away from that eerie merchant ship as possible.
However, the dark-skinned vice-captain had different thoughts. Right now, he was feeling extremely excited.
Despite his usual camaraderie with the captain, deep down, he had always harbored a strong desire to take the captain's position. However, he was not strong enough to challenge him, and his influence within the crew was not as high as the captain's, which was why he had remained subordinate until now.
But with the captain's sudden death, his strength and authority were now the highest within the crew, making him the natural successor to the captain's position.
This was the perfect moment for him to shine. If he chose to retreat now, his reputation would take a hit. Thus, he decided that capturing the merchant ship was the only way to solidify his new leadership.
With this thought in mind, he ignored the pirate's earlier question and instead stepped into the center of the crew, raising his weapon high.
He shouted loudly, "Listen up, everyone! Our captain has tragically passed away, and from now on, I will be leading us. We will carry on his will and take that merchant ship to become our new pirate vessel!"
"The captain's death was suspicious, so to avoid the same fate, make sure no one looks at the ship's passengers through a telescope!"
"Once we get close, we'll storm the ship in one go! There are plenty of beautiful women, fine wine, and treasures waiting for us!"
"Yeah!! Take the merchant ship!!"
The dark-skinned man's declaration instantly dispelled the fear in the pirates' hearts, and their greed took over once more.
In the One Piece world, human lives were cheap. Every day, countless civilians were slaughtered by pirates, and just as many pirates met their end at the hands of other pirates or the Navy.
With the vice-captain's rallying cry, the pirates quickly forgot about their fallen captain and eagerly sharpened their weapons, ready to seize the cruise ship to satisfy their greed.
However, just as the pirates' excitement reached its peak, two small figures suddenly flew out from the cruise ship a few hundred meters away, landing on the pirate ship in an instant.
"Waahaha!"
With a lively and adorable laugh, the air was soon filled with the pirates' agonized screams.
...
...
A week had passed since Eriri and her group encountered their first pirate crew. Now, their cruise ship had sailed through most of the East Blue and was currently navigating the waters near Loguetown.
During these seven days, Eriri and the others had encountered several pirate ships.
Without exception, every pirate ship they came across, upon spotting the luxurious cruise ship, greedily charged toward them.
And without exception, every one of these pirates was annihilated—ship and all.
Throughout these encounters, Eriri never once needed to take action herself. The pirates were effortlessly dealt with by Milim, Jibril, and Kohina.
The East Blue truly lived up to its reputation as the weakest sea. Among all the pirates Eriri and her companions had encountered, not a single one possessed a Devil Fruit ability. Even the highest bounty they came across was only a few hundred thousand Berries.
Eriri and the others had no interest in collecting the pirates' bounties, let alone bringing their heads to the nearest Marine base to claim rewards.
If she ever wanted Berries, she could easily create them out of thin air or exchange gold for currency.
The pirates that Jibril and the others eliminated left no corpses behind. Their bodies and ships were completely obliterated by energy-based attacks, leaving nothing but the endless ocean behind.
However, their battles didn't go unnoticed. On several occasions, bystanders who happened to witness the annihilation reported it through Den Den Mushi, spreading word of the mysterious cruise ship and the ease with which Jibril and the others dispatched pirates.
As a result, Eriri's cruise ship and Jibril's effortless pirate extermination had gained some fame within the small scope of the East Blue.
Still, those who had heard of them only knew about Jibril and a few others. No one knew what exactly was happening aboard the ship or who else was present.
During the week, Eriri and her group had not set foot on any islands—not even those featured in the original story.
Places such as Windmill Village, Orange Town, Syrup Village, and Cocoyasi Village were all bypassed without a second thought.
They had no need to replenish supplies. Aoi Kujo's storage ring contained enough provisions to last the entire group for several years. Additionally, they frequently caught fresh seafood from the ocean, making any stops for resupply unnecessary.
As for tasting the local delicacies, Eriri didn't believe anyone in the One Piece world could surpass Aoi Kujo's culinary skills.
Moreover, most of the islands in the East Blue lacked any unique features. Perhaps once they reached the Grand Line, they might consider visiting some of the more interesting and exotic islands.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Eriri and Arifureta captured many beautiful marine creatures and released them into the Martial Arts Tournament World.
If the chance presented itself, Eriri even considered introducing a group of mermaids into that world—of course, only the beautiful female ones. She wouldn't mind granting them extended lifespans and eternal youth to ensure they remained as stunning as they were now.
After all, Eriri was well aware that most women in the One Piece world became unsightly with age. She had no desire for the mermaids she brought in to end up looking like Granny Kokoro from Water 7.
Of course, the prerequisite was that the mermaids had to be willing to migrate to the Martial Arts Tournament World. Eriri had no intention of forcing them to move.
Loguetown, a place of great significance in the One Piece world, was known as the "Town of the Beginning and the End." It was the birthplace of the previous Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, as well as the site of his execution.
Being the closest town to the entrance of the Grand Line, it also housed a powerful Marine branch.
The reason the East Blue was considered the weakest of the seas was partially due to the Marine captain stationed in Loguetown—Smoker.
As a Devil Fruit user, specifically of the Moku Moku no Mi, a Logia-type Smoke Fruit, Smoker possessed considerable strength.
He was stationed in Loguetown specifically to capture pirates attempting to enter the Grand Line. Under his watch, no pirate had successfully made it through in the past decade.
This resulted in the stagnation of the East Blue's pirate generation; most pirates had incredibly limited knowledge, with many not even knowing what a Devil Fruit was.
There were two ways to enter the Grand Line: one was through Reverse Mountain, and the other was by crossing the Calm Belt.
However, the Calm Belt lacked both wind and ocean currents, leaving the sea completely still.
Since most pirate ships in the One Piece world were traditional sailboats powered by the wind, once they entered the Calm Belt, they would lose all propulsion and become stranded.
Additionally, the Calm Belt was home to numerous gigantic Sea Kings, posing a fatal threat to most pirates.
As a result, almost all pirates attempting to enter the Grand Line chose to go through Reverse Mountain.
On the other hand, Eriri's cruise ship didn't rely on wind for propulsion, making it easy for them to cross the Calm Belt.
However, she had no intention of doing so. Since this was meant to be a sightseeing trip, she didn't want to miss out on the unique experience of Reverse Mountain. As for the Calm Belt, they could explore it another time.
