The Strongest Brain in the Interstellar

Chapter 39 - Donation

The new compensation plan offered by the Hailusi Group was nearly doubled.

The young man returned with the new compensation proposal, his smile wider, and his attitude much more amicable and cautious than before. One could visibly see that he looked quite worn out; one couldn’t help but wonder what they discussed in that brief meeting.

Jiang Hui skimmed through it. In addition to the cash being doubled, there were many additional clauses, but she was already somewhat fed up and simply glanced over it.

“Ms. Jiang, you can take another look. If you’re not satisfied, we can still negotiate further,” the young man said, no longer treating Jiang Hui like an ignorant child but as the key figure in this conversation.

Seeing that Jiang Hui merely glanced at the new compensation proposal without lifting her eyelids or changing her indifferent expression, he couldn’t help but feel anxious, worried that she might say something unsatisfactory.

Because someone who remained unmoved by wealth made it difficult to define her bottom line. They could increase the compensation, but they feared that she might turn hostile and insist on escalating the matter, which would lead to substantial losses for the Hailusi Group.

“Alright, that’s enough. Let’s leave it at that,” the girl said coldly.

The young man was momentarily taken aback, clearly not expecting things to be this straightforward. He had thought that Jiang Hui would at least negotiate a few more times before calming down.

In fact, Jiang Hui was unwilling to linger on the matter.

The tragedy had already occurred, and what had happened to the original owner was irretrievable. She was also a beneficiary of sorts… Fighting for compensation was about seeking justice for the original owner, but if it turned into a protracted battle for a larger sum of money, it would fundamentally change the nature of the matter. Jiang Hui truly could not engage in a profit-driven struggle at the cost of the original owner’s life.

She also understood that, given the current situation, if she insisted on dragging things out, it would probably only lead to this point. Jiang Hui still needed to continue living in this starry world, and a giant like the Hailusi Group was not something a small fry like her could take down.

Even though the circumstances in the starry world were different from those on Blue Star, Jiang Hui knew that in this world, she belonged to the weak side. So, she had no choice but to proceed this way.

It was best to clarify things as soon as possible. The compensation should be paid, matters should be settled, and those who needed to pay a price should do so. There was no need to prolong the struggle any further.

Jiang Hui once again reminded the Hailusi Group to deal with the TM series products, emphasizing that they should at least recall the items for inspection. Naturally, the other party agreed and stated that just a moment ago, the Hailusi Group had already issued a notice to recall the TM series and its related products for inspection. She could log in later to see the announcement.

After verifying the compensation plan, Jiang Hui and lawyer Jian signed the contract, then sent it to the Interstellar Inspection Bureau for review and filing. This matter was essentially settled.

The staff from the Hailusi Group almost escorted the two of them to the entrance, but Jiang Hui did not look back, not even once.

Immediately afterward, Jiang Hui invited Ms. Jian to have a meal together, intending to settle her fees at the same time.

Naturally, Jian was embarrassed to accept. What kind of logic was it for an underage and still unawakening individual to treat an already working adult to a meal? As for paying the commission, it was something that could be done on the platform, and there was no need for special discussion.

From the short day they had spent together, she could tell that Ms. Jiang was a courteous person who was relatively well-prepared in her dealings. Jian guessed that she felt troubled for having to ask for her help today, which was why she thought of using the meal as an excuse to invite her.

Jian was just thinking about how to decline when the girl told her that the meal allowance for dinner, along with the transportation fees from today’s trip, would be sent to the Hailusi Group as reimbursement. At that time, they could ask for reimbursement from them. Additionally, the other party had another matter to consult with Jian and hoped she could stay for this meal.

Hearing this, Jian had no reason to disagree and felt a bit moved. Ms. Jiang’s way of doing things certainly did not seem like that of a still-awakening underage individual, considering even reimbursement matters. If it were another minor, they might not have thought of this, or even if they did, they might have overlooked it due to shyness.

Not only did Jiang Hui do this, but she also did so with such grace.

However, Jian was quite interested in the consultation that the other party mentioned. Today, she only took on Jiang Hui’s commission and had no other work arranged, so according to the rules, she could leave work early. Therefore, it was no problem for her to agree to go out for a meal with Jiang Hui.

After careful consideration, Jian thanked her and agreed.

The two chose a relatively famous restaurant in the central district’s first ring, preparing to try the local specialty dishes.

This restaurant is said to specialize in traditional cuisine. The chef studied in the capital system and has received considerable praise since returning, making it a restaurant worth trying in the first ring area.

Due to its expensive prices, the restaurant was relatively empty. They were seated in the main hall, so there was no need for reservations. Even in the hall, there were waitstaff providing service, which is considered quite upscale in the interstellar context, as labor is costly and most mid-range restaurants now rely on robots or machines to save costs.

The dinner had a flavor profile somewhat similar to certain Chinese dishes, but it also seemed to blend in quite a few foreign flavors. In any case, Jiang Hui couldn’t quite identify many of the tastes and found some of them a bit unfamiliar, though overall the flavors were still good.

During the meal, both were focused on dining and chatted occasionally about the local customs, without immediately diving into consultations.

Once they finished their meal, the waiter brought out dessert. Jiang Hui held a cup that was likely tea and then slowly asked, “I wonder if Ms. Jian knows of any reliable donation channels. I need to donate a portion of funds.” She traced the edge of the teacup with her thumb, her gaze fixed on the rising steam, her expression difficult to read—whether it was sadness or something else entirely.

Jian didn’t quite understand why she felt this way. Today’s events, while originating from misfortune for Jiang Hui, had also resulted in considerable wealth and compensation for her. Even if it couldn’t fully make up for the harm she suffered in the incident, one would expect a young person to feel excited about receiving such a large sum in compensation.

Yet, Jiang Hui still looked unhappy. In fact, she had appeared rather downcast since they first met. Her emotions seemed excessively subdued…

“Ms. Jiang, are you planning to make a donation?” Jian’s tone was questioning, but internally, she had already started to calculate and quickly listed some relatively reliable recipients.

“Yes, I would like to use a portion of the compensation I received from the Hailusi Group today for donations,” Jiang Hui nodded.
