The Strongest Brain in the Interstellar

Chapter 38 - Further Discussion

“Alright, we can meet all the demands you’ve proposed,” the young man nodded.

Lawyer Jian didn’t expect the Hailusi Group to be so agreeable, but upon reflection, it made some sense. The standards for product quality in the interstellar sector were strictly enforced, and the rights of interstellar minors were a taboo topic among all interstellar citizens. Jiang Hui’s case involved both points, leaving no room for the Hailusi Group to evade responsibility.

It seemed they had no choice but to comply. Thinking of the numerous scandals and the ongoing product quality issues that the group had faced in recent years, Jian couldn’t help but smirk internally; it was truly a bargain for them.

Lawyer Jian nodded and took the documents, helping Jiang Hui review them once more for a final check to avoid any loopholes the opposing side might exploit.

The young man sitting across from them didn’t mind Jian’s caution; instead, he turned his gaze to the silent Jiang Hui, who was actually the focal point of this unexpected incident.

“Ms. Jiang, do you have anything to add?” he asked politely. “We sincerely apologize for the unpleasant experience our products have caused you. If you have any additional requests, please feel free to mention them. We will do our best to accommodate you.” The young man was amiable, but it seemed from his attempt to speak with Jiang Hui alone that he wasn’t entirely the kind-hearted person he appeared to be.

These seasoned veterans are full of tricks; their inquiry into Jiang Hui does not seem to come from a place of good intentions. Jian wanted to stop them from talking to Jiang Hui alone.

“You should definitely apologize,” Jiang Hui replied coldly. “I shouldn’t have to tell you this, but I assume you already know. The issues with your product go beyond just the alarm malfunction; the reason I suffered a head injury was also due to your group’s product.”

“If it weren’t for that smart robot, everything that followed wouldn’t have happened. You should indeed be held responsible,” the girl said somewhat coldly.

The young man who was questioning her, along with a person who appeared to be his assistant, changed their expressions slightly.

Because Jiang Hui had indeed hit the nail on the head. They were aware; they had retrieved the faulty smart robot from the incident site and discovered that some recordings still remained. Fortunately, this part was a backup kept by their group, and the inspection team had found it, later being taken back by their people under the guise of needing to conduct tests.

Wasn’t this just a bomb that could explode at any moment? That Ms. Jiang had actually encountered an accident due to this smart system’s malfunction was entirely different in nature from their previous alarm system failure. If this had been discovered immediately, the Hailusi Group wouldn’t be able to handle the situation so leisurely; they might have already been featured in interstellar newspapers and faced administrative penalties from the government.

It was precisely for this reason that the previously stubborn board member immediately abandoned his earlier stance. The group promptly recalled Andy, who had previously negotiated with Jiang Hui, to handle the situation, seeking to resolve the matter as quickly as possible.

They recalled Ms. Jiang’s words and demands, thinking she might have forgotten about the matter due to her brain injury; otherwise, she wouldn’t have only asked for such a small amount in compensation.

Who would have thought that not only did she remember, but she also brought it up at this moment? What did this mean?

The young man felt quite a headache, and the confidence he had displayed earlier faded into a shallow sense of caution.

People with simple minds tend to wear their thoughts on their sleeves, making it easy to read their ideas and emotions. Others are naturally more reserved, keeping their thoughts and feelings hidden, making it difficult for outsiders to gauge their depths.

Jiang Hui was undoubtedly closer to the latter. It was unclear whether her demeanor was genuinely cold or if it stemmed from her grievances against their group due to her recent misfortune, but she certainly presented a difficult challenge.

Now that the other party had thrown out such a piece of leverage, he felt it was somewhat difficult to handle.

After a while, the young man suddenly apologized, saying he needed to consult with his superiors again and perhaps they could revise the compensation plan, possibly increasing the amount.

He immediately instructed his assistant to serve tea and snacks to the two of them, along with the small gifts that had been prepared in advance, and then turned and hurried away, not knowing where he was going.

Watching the other party almost flee in a panic, Ms. Jian put down the contract that should be rendered void and frowned slightly, saying, “Ms. Jiang, there’s still this aspect to consider. You should have told me sooner; you can’t just let them off so easily.”

Lawyer Jian hadn’t expected there would be this twist in Jiang Hui’s situation. She had thought it was merely a common issue of product accountability, which wasn’t uncommon in the starry realm.

However, if what Jiang Hui said was true, then it was no longer just a matter of product quality; it involved the group’s product negligence leading to a life-threatening situation. If the victim decided to take the matter to court, it wouldn’t be out of the question.

“I had damage to my frontal lobe and was physically and mentally unwell, so I couldn’t recall it at the time. It was only a few days ago when I was on my way home that I suddenly remembered this matter, but by then it had already reached this point…”

Jiang Hui didn’t explain why she hadn’t pursued the matter, but Lawyer Jian already had an inkling. In fact, even if she had taken on the case earlier, she probably wouldn’t have advised Jiang Hui to bring it to the interstellar court.

Because the inspection bureau had come to collect evidence right after Jiang Hui’s incident, it was certain they hadn’t uncovered this hidden condition. Thus, the Hailusi Group had remained calm and unaffected. The fact that the other party was aware of this matter indicated that they had some backup plan in place.

If Jiang Hui insisted on confronting them, it would mean having to resubmit documentation, and under such scrutiny, this accusation might not even hold up. Besides, she would be taking on a powerful conglomerate.

Having just arrived and lacking any close guardians, it would be cruel to say she was living all alone. It’s better to avoid trouble where possible. After all, she would still have to live on this planet in the future, and the Hailusi Group wouldn’t collapse overnight.

So, she could only use this as a bargaining chip, taking a light-handed approach.

“However, your timing for bringing up these conditions is quite perfect. Look how scared he is…” Ms. Jian chuckled, noting a hint of hidden malice in this small incident. This person was likely doing it on purpose, specifically choosing to act when they thought they had the upper hand, intending to disrupt their confidence: “I say, well done!”

This shows that the Hailusi Group was clearly feeling guilty. Before proceeding to the next round of negotiations, they were already frightened into wanting to change the compensation plan.

This was clearly advantageous for Jiang Hui, and naturally, the two wouldn’t hinder it.

As they neared mealtime without realizing it, Jian felt that the discussions with the Hailusi Group likely wouldn’t conclude so quickly, so she called for Jiang Hui to have some refreshments. These had all been prepared by the logistics team at the request of the young man and looked quite sumptuous.

Speaking of which, the Hailusi Group seemed to care about such trivial matters…
