The Second Chance of Reincarnator

Chapter 71: War Veterans of Fourth Aeon

"I hope the memory crystal helped you to gain some of your strength back."

Melia said with a smile and a bow.

While they hoped to get some valuable knowledge from the memory crystals, they were also helpful for their lord to get some of his strength back.

In the end, those memories didn't belong to them, but they were grateful that Kael was kind enough to share that knowledge with them.

There was one memory crystal remaining, but they didn't think that Kael could handle another one, so they didn't ask him to take it.

However, Kael still picked it up, and to their shock, pressed it against his forehead.

"M-my lord?"

"Don't push yourself!"

"Too much foreign knowledge can damage your brain and can make you brain dead!"

Kael heard the worries, but it didn't mean that he would abide by them, and he kept pressing the memory crystal against his forehead.

This time around, an even greater amount of memories entered his mind, and this time, he screamed in pain.

"Argh!"

"Lord!"

"Oh my god!"

The memory crystal was bigger than those other crystals, but only a little bit, and Kael didn't expect the difference to be so enormous.

It didn't add only a little bit of knowledge into his mind, but a whole conversation, one he had never been part of.

It was a conversation that happened many moons ago, and he doubted that even the Lord of the Realm Between, during his last days, remembered that this conversation ever happened.

Now Kael remembered it so vividly, as if he were right there.

Whitesky, Stoneroad, the early days of Fifth Aeon.

Beside the long, and winding road of stone, campsites were put up together in the nearby forest with tents raised, campfires burning, and the sound of laughter echoing through the trees.

Close to a hundred strong-looking men and women could be seen sharing stories and songs as the sun set behind the mountains.

The night turned dark as the stars began to twinkle in the sky, and in the campsites, some went to bed to either sleep or make love.

Most stayed by the fire, laughing and talking with their party members—drinking ale and eating meat.

"Mind if I join you guys?"

From behind the trees, a young adult with black hair stepped out, holding a bottle of mead, and the group that consisted of older men welcomed him to sit with them.

"Hello, young one. How did you happen to stumble to be part of this raid party?"

A thick-bearded warrior asked with a wrinkled face.

"A selection of bad choices and too much boldness, bravery, and alcohol, which all contributed to me volunteering for this mission."

He said with a wry smile and sat on top of a log while the campfire's warmth touched his face and forced him to remove his gloves and coat.

This young man was Lord of the Realm Between, but at this time, he still hadn't acquired his title.

Back then, he was known by another name—Messiah Antigone.

"That's youth, for you. Hahahaha!"

The old veterans laughed, and Messiah shared some of his bitter mead with them, which they accepted with gratitude.

"Apologize for my words, but you three seem to be part of the older generation. You guys from Fourth Aeon?"

Messiah asked with a smile.

"Yes, indeed we are."

The thick-bearded veteran said with a deep sigh.

"I happened to be born on the first day of the Fifth Aeon. I wish I could call myself a Fourth Aeon child, haha!"

Messiah laughed.

"We were born in the closing stages of the Fourth Aeon. It's being called the most peaceful aeon of the world's history, but of course, in the closing stages of the Fourth Aeon, Rav'akari happened to appear.

"Thus, it went from peaceful to chaotic in just one night."

The old veteran said with a scoff.

"Yes, yes… You guys are war veterans, correct? Did you happen to be part of the battle of the First Battlefield?"

Messiah asked curiously.

The first battle between humans and Rav'akari was called the First Battle, and it happened in the First Battlefield.

Corpses of humans littered that battlefield, while there weren't many Rav'akari corpses in sight because humans lost that battle extremely badly.

Back then, they didn't have the blessing of the Gods, so they couldn't fight back!

"We did… It's not something to be proud of. We were just cattle to be slaughtered, and then, after losing about eighty percent of all our men, our commander finally had a bright idea to retreat.

"We didn't shed any blood in that battle, as we were way back in the rear, and we barely happened to see any of the Rav'akari either."

They still saw nightmares and shuddered with the memories of the First Battle, as it was the worst moment of their lives.

They thought that the world of humans was doomed, and so did everyone else. Those Dark Days of Whitesky were truly dark.

Panic, riots, and mass hysteria spread like wildfire throughout the city.

There was nowhere to escape either as they were surrounded by walls in every direction, which protected them from the Deceased Wasteland, where Rav'akari eventually came from.

It didn't seem to really protect them after all, as Rav'akari still came through the walls.

It just blocked their escape.

Then, the Dark Days of Whitesky came to an end as the Ten Gods of the Whitesky revealed themselves and gave off their blessings.

Humans started fighting back, but it wasn't enough; they needed more soldiers, and they went to seek help from other worlds.

Earthlings joined the battle.

"We're heading to battle one of the World Bosses now, the one that is known as Savage Mercy. How did he fight during the First Battle?"

Messiah asked.

"Savage Mercy? He led the Rav'akari army during the First Battle, and his smile never faded while he slaughtered us.

"I still remember his laughter in my nightmares…"

The old veteran whispered.

"Haha, so scary, huh? I understand…"

Messiah pulled out his black revolver from his holster, scratched his chin with the barrel, and grinned.

"I wonder if we all will die~"
