Chapter 29: Talk With Raheem
"Hmm, who is it this late?"
Raheem checked the time on his pocket watch and saw that it was soon to be the time of the wolf.
He folded the newspaper, walked to the door and peered through the peephole to see who was there.
A slightly familiar face of Kael Mizuchi stared through the peephole, and Raheem slowly opened the door.
"It's you… I didn't get your name before, but why are you here?"
He asked.
"Ah, I am sorry… My name's Kael Mizuchi, and some stuff kept nagging me, and I had to know… This whole revenge ritual—is it real?"
Kael asked.
"Ah…"
With a wry smile, Raheem opened the door and said.
"You aren't the first newcomer that came to me to ask more about the revenge ritual, as you call it, but I personally call it the justice ceremony.
"I am, of course, willing to let you know more about it."
He left the door open and went to the kitchen to pour a cup of tea for Kael and then gave him the cup before taking his seat in the living room.
After closing the front door, Kael sat in the corner of the living room, looking at the calm cup of tea, and traced his finger across its edge.
"First of all, may I ask how you found out about the mourning group?"
Raheem asked casually while crossing his left leg over his right and leaning back into the plush armchair.
"The mourning forums… I saw that there was a mourning group happening over in Rask, and I had to come check it out.
"I have to admit, it wasn't what I imagined it to be."
Kael said with a wry smile.
Raheem's eyes shone, a smile crept to his face, and he nodded.
"I can completely understand that, and I am sure you have many questions. I am always willing to answer the questions."
Kael nodded with a smile, but inside his brain, his gears kept turning.
'I was afraid that he might be of Leader Pathway, so I had been keeping my words half-truthful and sometimes truthful.
'That expression he just made… It was clear that he recognized my word as truthful, so I believe that he is of the Leader Pathway.'
Kael interlaced his fingers, and he considered Leaders as very bothersome individuals.
While they weren't the most offense-oriented Pathway, they were extremely difficult to deal with.
"How do you know if your revenge has been successful? I don't think Edna told the name of the person who killed her husband, so you wouldn't be able to read from the newspaper if that person is really dead."
Kael asked.
"When Edna's blood turned the pages crimson, the book received her memories, and several new pages were written.
"In one of those pages, the culprit's name and what he looked like appeared in crimson text. Fifteen minutes ago, another page was written.
"It vividly described the person's last moments before he was killed. Thus, I know that he is already dead.
"Of course, I will still confirm that via newspaper and other sources, such as checking out the deceased people reports." Content sourced from MV4LEMPYR – My Virtual Library Empire.
Raheem said, raised an eyebrow, and quickly headed upstairs while Kael waited patiently downstairs.
A short while later, he returned with the crimson book in hand, opened the last page of the book, and showed it to Kael.
"With a flash of the lightning, the man's dead body was illuminated for a brief moment before disappearing into the darkness of the storm."
Raheem shut the book, sat back down, and put it on the table next to him.
"Very fascinating, indeed."
Kael thought with a deep breath and then asked.
"Those who've gotten their revenge fulfilled, have they ever come back for more? It didn't look like anybody in the group had gotten their revenge fulfilled before.
"When they get their revenge, do they just stop coming here? You could've gotten yourself quite a big following, for sure."
Kael put his chin on top of his fist and stared thoughtfully across the living room into the eyes of Raheem.
"With their revenge fulfilled, they've received their satisfaction and thus have no need to come back. I've also said that one can get their revenge fulfilled only once."
Raheem said with a smile.
"You don't feel sour about that? You don't even ask for money for your services, and when they're done using you, they just move on with their lives."
Kael asked.
"Haha, I believe what I am doing is charity work. I don't feel bitterness over something silly like that, as I like helping people to get their happiness back."
Raheem said.
"Hmm… Interesting perspective, Raheem."
Kael said.
"It's nothing deep, really. I hope I also get to know your story one day, Kael, as I can feel that you've come for Whitesky for something.
"You've lost someone, and you're seeking revenge."
Raheem said.
"Yeah… Revenge is a driving force for me, but I do not want to die in search of that."
Kael said coldly.
"Haha…"
Raheem awkwardly laughed.
With a sigh, Kael patted his knees with his hands, rubbed them, and then asked.
"Do you know that Edna is dead, Mister Raheem?"
The eyes of Raheem widened in shock—not at the sudden news but at the sudden question that seemed very accusative.
"R-Really? How can that be? She was here just a moment ago, but how do you know that she is dead? More importantly, who killed her?"
"Lalala~"
Kael pointed his finger at him, singing while doing so, and then said.
"You and that crimson book of yours killed her. I thought before that there might be a chance that you weren't aware of what you were doing, but now I am sure that you're fully aware.
"You're just killing people that come to you in search of justice."
Slowly, Raheem's round eyes turned sharper, looking like cold, calculating, emotionless orbs; they were fixed on Kael.
"You think that they wouldn't get revenge on their own if they had power to do so? They wouldn't care if they died in the process, and I am giving them the easy way to do that!"
