The Second Chance of Reincarnator

Chapter 13: Questions of Truth

Kael sat inside a small, warm room—the few windows in the room showed a bustling street—and had Blessed Ones everywhere that he looked.

After the encounter with the creature of the Ravaged Soul, he was taken to the Guild for further questioning.

While he was waiting inside the Guild, the whole street was actually part of it all—hundreds of buildings, winding alleyways, and marketplaces—it was the liveliest part of the city.

The street had everything that the Blessed One would need—the blacksmiths, the apothecaries, the taverns, alchemy shops, and merchant stores—it also had the Quest building.

Thus, since it was a street that had everything, most Blessed Ones lived there, and that's why they were everywhere on the street.

However, because of the expensive rent, Soul and his party members decided to live somewhere more remote—cheaper.

"…"

Kael looked at the cup of coffee on the table—it was steaming—and looked more brownish than black.

'I know there is no such thing as coffee machines in this world, so this coffee must've been made using a different method…'

He thought.

However, he didn't feel like drinking coffee and turned his gaze to the door.

The unease grew in his heart, as he'd been waiting for someone to come to talk to him for about half an hour already.

'I have only this night to go retrieve my brother's corpse, and it doesn't help that I need to waste my time here. I thought my answers were rather good, but since I am the only witness of how the creature of Ravaged Soul came to be, they're inclined to ask more questions.

'I fake cried to stop her from asking more serious questions that might put me in trouble.'

Kael thought to himself.

At that moment, the door opened—at last—three figures came and got seated in the chairs across from him.

"My name's Ansel, the Chief Investigator of the Guild. On my right, Klaus, and on my left, Aurora, whom you've already met."

A well-suited man with a wedding ring on his left hand said, and the other two figures stared at Kael with intense expressions.

Klaus, the man with the bronze shield, was one of the figures—the Bronze Knight—and the slayer of the creature.

He had a cold look and a buzzcut and wore a stern expression that made Kael uneasy—it felt like he was a military man back on Earth.

Aurora, on the other hand, smiled gently and gave a gentle wave—she was quite pretty with long purple hair—and gave off older sister vibes.

She made Kael remind him of Leonie, from Soul's party, whom he met only briefly back on Earth but had a good impression of.

"We do have a couple of questions in hand, but first, do you have your Blessed Card with you?"

Ansel asked.

"…Blessed Card? I am sorry, but I do not know what that is."

Kael said.

"…You're not the Blessed One?"

He asked with a frown.

"No… Today is my first day in the Whitesky."

Kael replied.

Ansel looked towards Aurora—she was looking for any falsehoods—but she just nodded with a smile.

"Interesting—it was very unlucky of you to come across a creature of Ravaged Soul. Most people of this world go their entire lives without even hearing about them."

Ansel said, looked at the coffee cup, and after seeing that it had been left untouched, he picked it up and took a sip.

"I have a couple of questions, and once you answer them—truthfully—you may leave."

Ansel said, putting great emphasis on the word 'truthfully.'

"Alright…"

Kael replied and wiped his sweaty palms on his trousers—it felt like he was in the police interrogation room—it was a horrible feeling.

"You knew Kang Huang?"

Ansel asked.

"Kind of—I met him like once back on Earth when he came with my brother, but I never talked with him before."

Kael said.

Aurora nodded, crossed her arms, and pushed her chest out slightly—she had a pendulum necklace hanging from her neck, tucked in the cleavage of her shirt.

"…How did you find Kang Huang?" This chapter was uploaded by the team at M|VLEMPYR.

Ansel asked.

Kael looked at him, felt like he was trying something like a lawyer, and knew that there was something he was going after.

'They must've searched my backpack and found the mystic pendulum—it must look suspicious that I had to use Mystic to find him—so if I don't speak the full truth, it looks like I am hiding something.'

Kael thought and then said:

"I went to Pouring Foam Inn to find Kang Huang, as he lived there with my brother, but when I went there, I found out that he moved.

"I really needed to find him, so I used Mystic to track his location, and he gave me some kind of pendulum that helped me locate him."

Kael said with a frown.

"Mmh."

Aurora nodded.

With a nod, Ansel reached out to his pocket, pulled out the mysterious pendulum, and placed it on the desk.

"We indeed found the pendulum inside your backpack, so your story checks out."

He said.

"A moment, please."

Kael raised his hand, saw them frowning, and then asked.

"I really don't know how this works, but am I like under arrest? If so, do you have probable cause to check my stuff?"

Aurora covered her mouth and giggled.

"Nothing like that, don't worry. We're responsible for the security of Whitesky, and we do have the power to arrest.

"However, only if there is certainty that you've harmed someone or if there is a clear threat to others."

Ansel said.

"That gives you also permission to search my stuff without cause or anything like that, correct?"

Kael asked.

"That's right—the things don't work the same in Whitesky—we take the security of this place very seriously."

Ansel said with a cold look.

"I understand. You can continue."

Kael said.

"The creature of Ravaged Soul can only happen if the person kills themselves—if they just die in the hands of others, nothing happens.

"Thus, we know that he killed himself, but I have one question—did you force him to kill himself?"

Ansel asked.

"…What?"

Kael asked with a slight tremble in his tone.

It was a question that he didn't want to answer.
