The Second Chance of Reincarnator

Chapter 12: The Last Torture

Kael rolled down the stairs and smashed into a wall.

He looked up the stairs and saw the grotesque creature staring back at him.

"Kang… What happened to you?"

Kael asked.

At that moment, a door behind the grotesque creature opened, and a malnourished-looking young man looked out.

"Yo, what's going on over here…"

Kang turned to him, shot out the tongue, and it stabbed the young man in the chest—he started sucking and turned the young man into a bloodless husk.

With the tongue snapping back to his mouth, Kang turned back to Kael and saw that he was already running towards the door.

"Screech!"

Kael smashed through the door into the alleyway and ran down the narrow passageway, his arms swinging beside his body.

The tongue-lashing creature jumped into the alleyway, his eyeless sockets fixed on Kael with hunger in them, and his long, jagged teeth bared in a menacing snarl.

"Get out of the way!"

Kael pushed the alleyway lurkers aside, pushed the barrel of fire over, and rushed to the exit of the alleyway.

While running, he looked over his shoulder and saw that all the alleyway lurkers were shouting at him, but then the grotesque creature attacked them.

Their shouts turned into screams—the blood got sucked out of their bodies—and the creature turned yet stronger.

It quickly chased off after Kael, running on all fours, its long, sharp fingers scraping against the pavement.

"Someone help!"

Kael screamed and ran out of the alleyway and into the street—but the street he entered happened to be empty.

It was the poor region of the Rask, the area where the city's destitute and homeless residents were forced to reside.

It was a place where no one in their right mind would go, especially in the middle of the night, so there was no one in sight!

"Shit!"

Kael breathed heavily as he ran down the street, and he then reached out to his pocket, trying to take out the black bottle.

At that moment, he heard the scraping of the pavement behind him, and as he turned around, he saw the long-tongued Kang closing in on him! The original source is M|V|L5EMPYR.

"Come on!"

Kael gritted his teeth and tried to yank the bottle out of his pocket, but it was stuck in there too tightly.

The long-tongued creature leaped off the ground, reached the hands over to his head, but then a shield slammed into his face.

THUMP!

The creature stumbled backwards and landed on the ground, dazed and disoriented.

"Ah…"

Kael stumbled past a towering man, looked behind only to see his bronze shield in his hand, and then kept running.

"Psst, come here!"

A hand grabbed Kael and pulled him to the alleyway.

He turned to see a starry-eyed woman with a black overcoat, and then she spoke in hushed tones.

"Stay quiet; let the Bronze Knight take care of this."

She said.

'Bronze Knight?'

The long-tongued creature jumped at the man, but he put his shield up just in time to block his attack and knocked it back.

"Screech!"

The creature shot his lashing tongue forward, but the bronze shield blocked it, and the creature jumped and slashed his sharp fingers at the man.

The bronze shield blocked the fingers, and he then bashed the shield into the creature's face—it stunned him—then the man drew his sword and cut through the creature like butter.

Kang, the creature, let out a bloodcurdling screech before collapsing to the ground—he was still writhing and squirming.

"A wretched creature."

The man stabbed his sword into Kang's head, right in the spot between his brows, and finally ended the ugly creature's rampage.

"Mm~"

The starry-eyed woman turned to Kael, pushed him against the wall, put her hand on the wall next to his head, and lifted her knee close to his groin.

"Hello~ I am Aurora from the Guild. I and my partner heard a gunshot, and we, the Guild Members, are responsible for keeping up the peace within the city~

"We came to investigate and saw you running away from that creature~ Do you know where the gunshot came from?"

She asked with her starry eyes turning bright like the stars themselves, and her powers had a strange kind of effect on Kael.

'She is a Leader!'

Kael thought to himself and quickly steeled his emotions—he gathered his thoughts and took a deep breath.

With her being Leader, she could tell the falsehood in his words so that he wouldn't spend the rest of his life behind bars; his words must be truthful.

'I know she can see the falsehood, but what about half-truths?'

"I know…"

Kael said.

"Who shot the gun?"

She asked and touched Kael's cheek gently, tracing her finger across his lips in a caress.

"H-he did…"

Kael turned his head away from her touch and turned to look at the dead creature in the middle of the street.

"You saw him shoot the gun?"

She asked.

"…Yes."

Kael said.

"You know him?"

"Yes… Kang Huang."

"Did he shoot himself?"

"Yes…"

"Why were you with him?"

"I came to meet him to talk about my brother. My brother died, and he knew where his corpse was, and I wanted to give him a proper burial.

"I also thought about asking him to come with me to go retrieve the corpse."

Kael said with an absentminded look.

It was the truth—it was his first intention—but then he saw the state of Kang and knew that he would never want to go back there.

"Why didn't you wait for the Corpse Collectors to go to retrieve your brother's corpse?"

She asked with a sharp gaze.

"I didn't want to wait for my brother to turn into food for the wild animals there. I didn't want my family to see his mangled body. I wanted to spare them that horror."

Kael said, and a few tears dropped from his eye.

"…"

She looked at him silently, then backed away from him, and smiled with a bow.

"I apologize for the interrogation. I had to question you just in case, as the creature of Ravaged Soul usually chases down the last person they have hostility against."

She said.

"Creature… of Ravaged Soul?"

Kael asked.

"Yes—this Kang Huang's soul has been snatched by Rav'akari, without him noticing, I suppose. It made him turn into that monstrous creature you just saw.

"There is only one condition to turn into that creature—Kang Huang must've killed himself for the things that Rav'akari did to him, and that made him turn into that creature.

"It's what Rav'akari likes to do to their victims—Kang Huang was aware of his doings as the creature, but he couldn't control himself.

"It's the last torture that Rav'akari inflicted on him."

She said with a sad smile.

Kael trembled in anger—the clenching of his fist turned his knuckles white with rage—and he'd wish he could see Rav'akari suffer the same fate.

'I now know why my brother didn't want me to come here.'
