Chapter 83: How Am I Supposed To Shoot Him?
Bane and Barrock turned and saw her holding the bow that was made of white metal. The bow was beautiful, and the runic markings along its limbs were made of black iron. It gave off an fiery aura that gave the body bow a slight glow, but the string’s glow was so bright it gave off the appearance of being on fire. Bane had never seen a magical weapon before, and it wasn’t anything like his astral soul weapons.
"Ahh, I was surprised when I discovered the material for that bow. I have never made anything like it. I made that bow from a mythril vein that had a runic inscription along its length, but the words are unknown to me, so I have no idea what the bow is meant to do."
Bane frowned, but then Eve emerged from his body in her blue glowing semi-transparent form. Barrock nearly tripped and fell over backwards, and Bane couldn't help but laugh.
"Don't worry, she isn't real. Well, she is kind of real? It's hard to explain, but her name is Eve," Bane explained and Barrock nodded as Eve walked over to Lysia.
"Can I see it?" Eve asked, and Lysia nodded, handing over the bow. After inspecting it for almost five minutes, Eve turned to Barrock. "Do you have a copy of the original inscription? These runes were carved by the claw of a phoenix, but the forging has changed the runes slightly. I would need to see what the original runes looked like."
"Oh, yeah, no problem. Let me grab the copy. Give me a minute," Barrock said, then hurried out of the room.
"It looks like the runes were altered in the process of being made into a weapon," Eve told Lysia, handing the bow back.
"Will that affect it negatively?" She asked after taking the bow.
Eve shook her head. "No, the runes that have been altered were not part of the original meaning, but were meant to enhance the abilities of the bow. So, if anything, it is better than the original intent. Once I can scan the original, then I can say for sure what the bow is meant to do."
Barrock returned, and handed Eve a piece of paper. On it were the original runes, and after a few seconds, Eve nodded. "Alright, let me see the bow, and I can translate it for you."
Lysia handed the bow over, and Eve traced the runes with her finger, the glow intensifying around her body, and a faint hum could be heard. When the humming stopped, the glow faded and Eve nodded, handing the bow back to Lysia.
"The runes on this bow were a wish. It is the wish of a Phoenix to live a long and prosperous life with the one they loved. So, the bow is enchanted with the blessing of a phoenix, and has a very unique power," Eve explained.
"What is it?"
"The runes on the bow were engraved using not only the claws, but also tears of a phoenix, and its body was forged in a volcano. So, this bow was enchanted by both fire and wind. It also has the special property that allows you to soul bind the bow to yourself and another person. While bound, arrows fired from this bow can't hit a person who is bound to this bow. Along with this property, the bow has two AOE skills. Burning Spread Shot and Phoenix Volley."
"What are the skills?"
"Burning Spread Shot allows you to launch a spread of five arrows at the same time. Upon hitting their targets, the arrows will explode, causing fire damage to all creatures within ten feet of the target. The more mana you feed into the skill, the greater the size of the area the explosion will cover, and the stronger the explosions will be.
"The second skill, Phoenix Volley, allows you to shoot a single arrow that will split apart in the air, then will multiply to match the amount of enemies within a hundred foot radius. The arrows will seek the enemy and strike them down. The more mana you use, the more arrows will form and will be created.
"So, the bow is a bow meant to protect your partner, while dealing heavy damage to any group of enemies you might face. The fact that it has a soul binding enchantment is rare. I have only ever seen one other thing like this in all the time I have existed," Eve explained, then turned to look at Lysia, who didn't look impressed. "Is there something wrong?"
Lysia gave Eve a serious look. "How am I supposed to shoot him if the arrows will always miss him?"
"You hear something this cool, and that is your concern? You are such a pain in my ass. Don't you think that might be useful in the future?"
"I am more concerned about the present and needing to relieve the stress that has been building up because of a certain man that never lets me vent it!" Lysia snapped, but Barrock put his hands up, not wanting his precious room to get destroyed.
"You can just have that one, and pick another!" The dwarf exclaimed, rushing over to pull a black bow out of a case that was covered in red lines. "Here! This bad boy never misses its target! As long as you take aim at a target, the arrow you fire from this bow will always hit its target, even if deflected or cut in half! This one is called "Vengeance". The enchantment on the bow is similar to a skill a warrior can gain, and allows you to always hit your target, no matter what!"
"Give me," Lysia demanded, snatching the bow, and a quiver of arrows out of his hands, at the same time dropping the other bow.
Bane blinked over and caught the bow with a sigh. "I swear, you are a handful, sometimes."
Lysia smiled at him and kissed his cheek, then winked. "That's why you love me."
Bane looked at the bow in her hands. "You know, I really wish the feeling was mutual sometimes."
