The Married Life Of Immortals

Chapter 82: Because I Am The Hero, Duh

Bane clicked his tongue and rolled his eyes, putting his hands on his hips, and converted all the mana in his body to earth magic. He could sense the violence coming from her stare, but Bane never backed down.

"Because I am the hero, duh."

*Boom!*

A massive explosion of fire magic ripped the ground underneath Bane's feet, sending her flying across the room, and slamming her into a row of racks that held spears and pikes. Bane had only seen the lightning magic spell circle in front of him, not realizing that she had also cast another right below him. Lysia had just pulled the same trick on him as he had pulled on her at the Fiery Dragon when he stole a big bite out of her steak.

"Ow," Bane groaned as he stood up and dusting off his pants, but Lysia just glared daggers at him, which made his face scrunch up in retaliation. "Don't glare at me, woman! Now fix the damn rack! You made a mess of this fine gentleman's store! If you are going to act like a child, I will treat you like one!"

"I will act how I want to act! Don't think that you can tell me what to do, because-"

*Whack!*

Bane had moved in an instant, getting behind Lysia, and slapping her but keeping his hand there this time. Lysia was too shocked to react, and Bane leaned his mouth next to her ear.

"Sssh, give the man a break. You are being offered a weapon, hopefully, so try to act like a proper adult. Please fix the shelf as well," Bane breathed in her long ear, and a tremble ran through her body. Then, slowly, Lysia turned back and smiled innocently at the dwarf.

Barrock just stood like a deer in headlights, trying to process what he was seeing. Did a Demigod just walk into his shop? What other creature could move fast enough to surprise someone like Lysia? Not just stop her, but tame her? That was a thought Barrock would never breathe out loud, but it really made him wonder just who this man with her was?

"I apologize. You will have to forgive me, I got carried away. Please show me the weapons, and if it isn't too much trouble, I would love to find a bow for myself, as well as a quiver of arrows."

Barrock bowed quickly, and gestured to three display cases. "Each of these are the best bows that I have. Pick from any of them."

Lysia nodded, and Bane released her, making her bite the inside of her lip for a brief moment before she walked over to the cases. At the same time, Barrock moved over to stand beside Bane.

"Quite the woman you have there. She was known as one of the great heroes that ended the last war, you know?"

Bane glanced at the dwarf, and nodded. "Yeah, I heard about everything."

"Good, well, you know what I mean. I do feel bad for not offering my private stock, but none of this would have changed anything for her people. Sure, less people would have died, but in the end, it wouldn't have made a difference."

"Don't feel bad. I get why you kept them. Can't just go giving your babies to anyone, right? I knew a guy like you in my last life. A real prick, and overcharged for all the garbage in his shop, but I got along with the guy. Turned out that he gave me the tools to steal the thing that got me sent to this world," Bane explained, thinking about his old friend, and a smirk crept onto his face.

"What did you do?" Barrock asked, not believing for a moment that he would have done something normal.

Bane snorted, then shrugged. "Stole something from some very powerful people, only to realize after that there was no way for me to sell what I had stolen after. I mean, if I would have gotten away unnoticed, I might have had a chance, but even the best laid plan can fail when you are outnumbered. Anyway, it doesn't matter, because now I am here."

Barrock looked Bane up and down, and couldn't help but wonder if he was crazy, or just insanely confident.

"Well, that's all in the past. Now, we have the future. I can't imagine what sort of things you could do now, and with someone like her," Barrock said and looked up at the elf, who was looking at a beautiful and delicate looking bow.

Bane chuckled and shrugged again. "I have a few ideas, but I am not really sure. I don't even know where I am going with this whole thing. I just know that I have been given a task, and now I have a good reason to complete it."

Barrock didn't really understand what he meant by that, but didn't ask any questions.

"How long do you think you will be here on this island?"

"Not a long time, only a couple years. I have three years to get ready to tackle the dungeon, then I have to head out to the rest of the world," Bane explained, and Barrock nodded.

"So you are that mysterious person that showed up when we all got turned into kids?" He asked, and Bane nodded with a grin.

"The one and only."

"That was an interesting thing. To be turned into a child, and not have a clue how it happened. Then, find out our landlocked village was now an island! Sealed off, nonetheless! Then, a day ago, I woke up, and had my body back as I am now. It was weird. I was a child, and now I am a full grown adult. Do you know why it happened?"

Before Bane could answer, Lysia spoke up. "I have never seen a bow like this. Is this mythril? Where did you get the material and what are the runes engraved into it for?"
