Chapter 28: Xiao Wei, Little Sister
Kent's gaze turned slightly cold as he was asked about personal information, a taboo in the black market. However, seeing the soft look in the other person's eyes, it didn't seem like there were any ulterior motives; the person was probably just curious.
Standing nearby, Xiao Wei also looked at him with a gentle gaze, clearly curious as well.
Kent thought for a moment and finally answered truthfully, "I'll be coming of age in a few months."
Ye Yan, upon hearing this, was stunned. He couldn't believe it and opened his mouth to speak, but for a moment didn't know how to address him.
Finally, he said, "So, Mr. Eight God is a young prodigy. That makes you even more extraordinary. I've lived much longer than you, and if you don't mind, may I call you 'Little Brother Eight God'?"
Kent shrugged nonchalantly, "Of course, it's actually me who's getting the better deal."
"No matter," Ye Yan laughed heartily, glancing at Xiao Wei, whose eyes were sparkling with excitement. "Mr. Eight God, you've had a long day and need rest. I won't disturb you further. I'll have Xiao Wei take care of you. She's very thoughtful and won't let you down."
After saying that, Ye Yan vanished, leaving Kent stunned. This old fox had one trick after another, catching him off guard.
However, having Xiao Wei look after him wasn't bad, especially since it would be lonely by himself.
Xiao Wei's eyes shone with excitement, and she softly said, "Mr. Eight God, I'll take you to your room now."
"Alright."
Kent stood up and followed her, his eyes inadvertently following Xiao Wei's graceful figure. A thought suddenly crossed his mind: he really wanted to see what she looked like without the mask.
"Xiao Wei."
"Yes?"
"Since you know my real age, which is at most just one year older than you, it'd be better if you didn't keep calling me Mr. Eight God."
"Okay," Xiao Wei replied happily, "Then what should I call you?"
"Uh... Brother Eight?" Kent said with a smile, realizing that the name he'd chosen was amusing—it was a name for a parrot.
After thinking for a moment, he decided not to reveal his real name, so he said, "Just call me Eight God."
"That... that's not quite right, though," Xiao Wei said, glancing back at him with a somewhat playful tone. "If Elder Ye Yan hears me call you that, he'll definitely scold me severely."
"Well then... call me Eight God Brother. It's only fair, and I'll call you Little Sister Xiao Wei," Kent suggested.
"Okay, Little Sister Xiao Wei, hehe~~ That sounds so nice," Xiao Wei giggled, her eyes sparkling.
That night, Kent slept in the guest room while Xiao Wei stayed in the outer room. Perhaps feeling a bit bored, the two of them ended up chatting until late into the night.
Through their conversation, Kent learned that, just like him, Xiao Wei had no family left in this world. Her guardian, an uncle, was a heavy drinker who spent most of his days drunk.
Kent couldn't help but feel a bit of sympathy for her.
He slept lightly that night, and when he woke up, it was still early in the morning.
Unable to sleep, he put on his clothes and mask and went to the outer room. He found Xiao Wei lying quietly on her side, with the blanket slipping off her. Kent went over to cover her, but accidentally caught a glimpse of her face.
His heart jolted. It was such a delicate, beautiful face—it looked like something straight out of a painting.
As he watched her gently trembling eyelashes, her smooth, pale face, and her pink lips, Kent almost felt dizzy. She was stunning—almost on par with Zhao Mengxi.
Kent snapped out of it, muttering to himself, and he felt his defenses against attraction beginning to slip. But he quickly regained his composure, pinching his thigh to snap out of it, then went back to his room to sleep. He didn't want Xiao Wei to know he had already seen her true face.
"When I'm already calling you Little Sister Xiao Wei, how about we have breakfast together? I can't finish all of this on my own," Kent said when Xiao Wei brought breakfast to his room.
"This isn't right, I have a work meal," Xiao Wei shook her head.
"It's fine. You eat that work meal every day. You must be getting tired of it. Besides, eating alone is boring," Kent urged.
"Alright, then. Thank you, Eight God Brother," Xiao Wei said with a sweet smile, though her face was hidden behind a cat mask, her eyes were still warm and playful.
In the morning, the auction began. Around eleven o'clock, the black market was under heavy surveillance, and no one could come or go during the auction.
Many people had arrived early, all wearing masks and walking around the black market.
When Kent left his room in the black market, he saw the square bustling with activity—people moving about, and the sounds of vendors calling out, almost like a marketplace.
However, this scene only lasted for half an hour before a large gate slowly opened from the wall, revealing a lavishly decorated hall. This was where the auction would take place.
Ordinary people couldn't enter; they had to pay three thousand credit points to get in.
Of course, after the auction ended, the organizers would return two thousand credit points to the participants, meaning the ticket price alone was one thousand credit points.
This system discouraged most casual onlookers from entering, and only those with some wealth were allowed in.
Kent, however, didn't need to pay. He took out his guest token and waved it. Immediately, he was allowed inside.
The auction hall was spacious enough to accommodate over a thousand people. Within ten minutes, the hall was filled to capacity—after all, it was held only once every six months.
Once the hall was full, the doors were shut, and no one could leave midway. People outside had to wait until the auction ended to exit.
Meanwhile, several lights in the hall were dimmed, leaving only three lights shining above the auction stage. It created an atmosphere similar to that of a movie.
Kent couldn't help but nod in approval. He was quite satisfied with this thoughtful setup. It enhanced the auction atmosphere while keeping the identity of the bidders private.
In the dim light, no one could tell who was bidding for what, but the auction organizers had night-vision surveillance to track exactly who participated and who won the items.
As a figure in a mask stepped onto the stage, a ripple of excitement spread through the crowd.
Kent raised an eyebrow, surprised to see that the auction host was his old friend Ye Yan, the Five-Star Spirit Beast Master.
Ye Yan walked onto the stage, followed by a row of attendants, each holding a covered item. One of the attendants, wearing a cute cat-faced mask, was none other than Xiao Wei.
"Thank you all for coming to our black market's semi-annual large-scale auction. We are honored by your participation," Ye Yan said in his opening speech. "Luckily, the quality of the items being auctioned this time is excellent, and the quantity is large enough to thank you all for your enthusiastic participation."
Once the atmosphere settled, he smiled and continued, "I am Ye Yan, a Five-Star Spirit Beast Master of the Microglow North City Black Market. I'll be your host for this auction."
With a wave of his hand, one of the attendants stepped forward with a wooden tray.
"The first item for auction is a rare Black Dragon Pearl."
