The Almighty Diva: Reborn to be Worshipped

Chapter 14: Severed Ties: A Tale of Estrangement

Ji Chuxing hadn't forgotten about retrieving her five hundred yuan from the Wen household. Bo Yanchen, unwilling to let the young girl return alone, insisted on escorting her to the gates of the Wen family villa.

"Are you sure I shouldn't come in with you?"

Ji Chuxing pouted. "No!"

Bo Yanchen chuckled. "Alright, I'll wait for you out here."

Ji Chuxing had indeed returned solely for the money—five hundred yuan was no small sum, and she wasn't about to let the Wen family keep it. She had left home the previous day and hadn't returned all night.

Wen Sao, who slept on the first floor, had been instructed by Zhou Ru to monitor Ji Chuxing's return. She planned to give the girl a stern lecture to teach her some manners, as she clearly lacked them. However, Ji Chuxing didn't return all night, leaving Wen Sao fuming.

When she finally saw Ji Chuxing, Wen Sao set aside her work and remarked sarcastically, "Miss Ji, so you do remember this place is your home? I thought you'd forgotten."

Ji Chuxing paused mid-step and glanced at her. Wen Sao met her piercing gaze and felt an inexplicable shiver but quickly regained her composure.

What did this country bumpkin think she was doing, acting like she belonged in the Wen household? If she wasn't put in her place, she might even try to usurp Miss Wen's position!

She sneered, "Miss Ji, don't blame me for being blunt. Though you're the lady's daughter, the Wen family isn't your home. We merely provide you shelter, and that's only because of the lady, Miss Wen, and the young master. Don't make yesterday's incident a habit. The Wen family isn't a charity; we don't take in just anyone."

Wen Sao was reminding Ji Chuxing of her lowly status. Even though she was Zhou Ru's daughter, her standing was far beneath Xinyue Wen and Lianyang Wen.

"Who are you to decide who the Wen family takes in? Xiao Xing is the lady's child, and you, a servant, dare to lecture her?"

Lian'an Wen had just returned from outside and overheard this exchange. Since coming of age, he had taken over the family business and rarely visited, but he knew that Zhou Ru's biological daughter now lived in the Wen household. He didn't object, but he was surprised to see how poorly she was treated—even by the servants.

Though Huaming Wen was the current head of the household, Lian'an Wen, the eldest son, was the one no one dared to ignore. His cold demeanor made even Wen Sao, who had served the family for twenty years, tread carefully around him.

Hearing Lian'an Wen's voice, Wen Sao's expression shifted, and she turned to him respectfully. "Young Master."

Ji Chuxing also looked over. The man appeared to be around Bo Yanchen's age, with a sharp, icy presence. Dressed in black pants and a black shirt, he exuded an intense, commanding aura. This was Huaming Wen's eldest son, the most capable and influential member of the Wen family, even surpassing his father.

Ji Chuxing gave him a quick glance and thought, *He looks like someone who can hold his own,* but she didn't say a word.

Lian'an Wen waved his hand dismissively, his tone still cold. "Go back to your room."

Ji Chuxing turned and left without hesitation. The Wen family's problems were their own; she had no intention of getting involved.

Seeing Ji Chuxing head upstairs without a word, Wen Sao tried to explain, "Young Master, Miss Ji…"

Lian'an Wen raised his hand to silence her, his voice icy. "Know your place."

They were all opportunists, pretending to be better than they were. Wen Sao bowed her head, unable to speak further, but resentment simmered within her. The young master didn't know what this girl had done! If she wasn't stopped, she would surely try to seize the Wen family's assets!

Lian'an Wen said, "She is the lady's daughter. If she makes a mistake, it should be the lady who corrects her, not you. Don't let it happen again."

Reluctantly, Wen Sao agreed, and Lian'an Wen went upstairs to his study. Ji Chuxing's room had originally been prepared for Xinyue Wen's pet, but after the pet passed away, it was given to Ji Chuxing. There wasn't much inside, so she quickly found her five hundred yuan and packed up the few belongings she had brought from Qingxi Town.

Just then, Zhou Ru, looking exhausted, returned home, accompanied by Xinyue Wen.

Xinyue Wen, guilt written across her face, said, "Mom, I'm sorry. I didn't know what was happening. Please don't blame Sister; she might have been pushed to her limits."

Zhou Ru softened her tone when addressing Xinyue. "Xinyue, it's not your fault. Your sister lacks propriety. If she had explained earlier, this wouldn't have happened."

"What about the Sun family?" Xinyue asked, worried. "Grandma's health is poor, and they were supposed to help her. Now… I'm sorry, I messed it up."

Zhou Ru sighed. "We'll deal with that later. If the Sun family refuses, we can find other doctors."

"By the way," she added, "Teacher Liu told me today that you helped Teacher Wu with his experiment."

Xinyue smiled faintly. "Mom, I just got lucky. I didn't expect it to turn out that way."

Zhou Ru beamed with pride. "My good daughter, always so excellent. It's not luck—it's preparation. I believe in your abilities. Keep working with Teacher Wu, and the doors of North City University will open for you."

The two chatted happily downstairs, while Ji Chuxing, having finished packing, descended the stairs.

Xinyue spotted her immediately. "Sister! You're back!"

Ji Chuxing ignored her and headed out with her backpack.

"Stop!" Zhou Ru's expression darkened. "You know how to come back, but you can't even greet people? Didn't you see Xinyue talking to you?"

Ji Chuxing glanced at her. "Should I roll out the red carpet for you? Or maybe play a trumpet?"

This was practically a funeral march! Zhou Ru was livid but, remembering Xinyue, patted her hand. "Xinyue, go write your homework."

Xinyue, worried, looked at both of them. "Mom, please don't be angry with Sister. Sister, don't argue with Mom. Let's talk nicely."

She went upstairs, still uneasy. Seeing Ji Chuxing with Bo Yanchen—and even being scolded by him—Zhou Ru's anger hadn't subsided. Now, seeing Ji Chuxing again, her fury reignited.

"What exactly is going on between you and Second Master Bo?"

Did this girl really not understand?

Before yesterday, she didn't know anyone in South City except the Wen family, and now she was involved with Second Master Bo. Did she know whom she shouldn't mess with? If word got out that Zhou Ru's daughter was courting Second Master Bo, where would her reputation be? How would the other ladies gossip about her?

"I couldn't care less," Ji Chuxing said, not even bothering to look at her.

"Ji Chuxing!" Zhou Ru snapped. "I advise you not to be ungrateful. That's Bo Yanchen, the second master of the Bo family in North City. Do you think he's someone you can just approach? If something happens, even the Wen family won't be able to protect you! How could you do such a shameless thing? Do you have any sense of shame?"

"You're quite amusing," Ji Chuxing said, sizing her up. "Do you really think everyone acts like you?"

Zhou Ru's face darkened. "What did you say?"

This topic was highly sensitive for her, as she had used underhanded means to secure her position with Huaming Wen.

Ji Chuxing ignored her. "Stay out of my business. We have nothing to do with each other."

"What do you mean?"

"Exactly what I said," Ji Chuxing lifted her chin. "Mrs. Wen, remember this: you are not my mother. My mother is dead, and you are merely the second wife of the Wen family, Mrs. Wen."

Mrs. Wen was extremely sensitive about her position as a second wife and erupted in anger. "Ji Chuxing, so this is how you repay me for providing for you, giving you the best education?"

Ji Chuxing threw a bank card onto the table. "There's fifty thousand yuan in there. Since I came to the Wen family, I haven't used a single cent of yours. This fifty thousand is for the tuition at South City No. 1 High School. Now we're even."

Though she tossed the card with confidence, she was inwardly heartbroken. Fifty thousand yuan was a significant amount, but cutting ties was worth it.

Zhou Ru was stunned. "So you've really climbed onto Bo Yanchen's tree. I tell you, he won't live past thirty. Let's see how long you can rely on him. Even if we're even, your blood is mine. Everyone knows you are my daughter, Zhou Ru's daughter!"

Even if they were even, it wasn't Ji Chuxing's place to declare it. She was the one who should be thrown out.

Ji Chuxing's eyes turned icy. "Not live past thirty? Trust me, he will outlive you!"

She looked at Zhou Ru with disdain. "Your blood is pretty dirty."

Zhou Ru was speechless, and Ji Chuxing shrugged, heading out the door.

"Stop her!" Zhou Ru shouted.

The Wen family's servants, who had heard the commotion, blocked Ji Chuxing's path. They thought she was ungrateful for the opportunity to live in the Wen family.

Ji Chuxing's eyes lit up. "Perfect." She was ready for a fight.

She gave Zhou Ru an appreciative look, slowly set down her backpack, and prepared for a brawl.

Zhou Ru, seeing her, felt a strange unease. But Ji Chuxing was her daughter, and her life was in her hands. What could she do?

The tension was high when Xinyue Wen suddenly ran out. "Mom, the diamond watch Brother gave me is missing. I can't find it anywhere. Have you seen it?"
