Chapter 110: Onslaught of invaders
The sky tore open, cracks widening into a small portal that expanded rapidly. Demons and creatures rained down, and long-range attacks from below met them, tearing through their forms, sending pieces of flesh raining down with every strike. The numbers swelled, each attack a desperate attempt to slow, stun, or kill the relentless onslaught.
Suddenly, the torrent of invaders paused. The cracks in the sky then shattered completely, and a colossal fist emerged.
Adam immediately expanded his barrier, engulfing the area to absorb the full force of the attack. The fist pushed down, the barrier groaning under the pressure, and the ground beneath them erupted. Dust billowed, obscuring vision. A glowing red light pierced through the haze, and one of the creatures summoned a hurricane, sweeping the dust away.
They were met with a terrifying sight: a gigantic dragon head peering out of the portal, its mouth wide open, a pulsating red energy gathering, aimed directly at the city's center. A chilling silence fell as the beam charged. Adam had already urged everyone to enter his barrier for safety, and creatures frantically used their abilities to pull as many people as possible inside.
The dragon unleashed a massive fire beam down on the city. The barrier held, absorbing the ever-growing inferno, while everything outside its protection was annihilated, reduced to rubble and destruction.
As the blast slowly subsided, the dragon's head retreated into the portal, and an even more massive army surged forth. Adam, using the absorbed damage, unleashed a powerful retaliatory blast, slicing through the hordes and into the portal itself.
Every creature and human fired off long-range attacks and stray shots. The portal had grown immense, the sky turning a darker, more ominous red. The moment was nearing; their strongest units were about to enter.
Adam watched as a giant serpent slithered through the portal, unfazed by the puny attacks. It swerved through the sky, followed by more creatures: Mid-giants dropped to the ground, wyverns soared overhead, and demons of all shapes and sizes unleashed destructive magic. One particular figure commanded the onslaught: a giant, powerfully built demon holding a spear, standing atop a small dragon.
As the battle raged, Devon hurled millions of swords, cutting and slicing through the sky. He then combined them into a massive sword, stabbing the giant serpent, which crashed to the ground. The commanding demon immediately targeted Devon, unleashing blasts of elemental magic his way. Adam blocked all the attacks and told the others to prepare for a counter.
Then, a massive Hydra head emerged from the portal, its multiple heads blasting beams of energy across the surrounding area.
Emily transformed into her phoenix form and told Adam to get ready behind her. Everyone focused their attacks, desperately trying to clear a path for Adam and Emily to the portal.
As Emily launched into the sky, the barrier was removed, and everyone took cover, simultaneously unleashing long-range attacks. Genji's demons provided cover fire as Emily soared. The Hydra was relentless, blasting everywhere, but Adam's barrier was constantly up, covering himself and Emily as they ascended directly towards the portal.
Adam watched as many of his comrades on the ground were attacked and blasted by the Hydra. He knew their sacrifice wouldn't be in vain as he focused on his mission to stop more invaders from entering.
Emily unleashed a supernova flare, burning the sky and forcing the Hydra to retreat into the portal. Emily then launched Adam into the portal, continuing to incinerate the sky of invaders behind him. Adam entered the portal, feeling the rich mana of their world.
He unleashed his black armor, swiftly slicing through thousands of creatures, summoning his dimension to absorb the invaders. The incoming attacks from the invaders were absorbed by Adam's barrier and reflected back with double the damage.
Adam then blocked the portal's entry with a gigantic metal wall, covering it with erupting elements from ground to ice. Adam stood alone, an endless onslaught of invaders before him, a terrifying smile on his face, his eyes gleaming red.
