Superman's Saiyan little brother

Chapter 435: Chapter 435: Father-Son Conflict, Battle of the Spiders

Hearing Peter Parker's words, Richard Parker fell silent. It had been many years since he had last seen Peter. Though he had kept a watchful eye on him from a distance, it wasn't the same as being there in person. Despite Richard's lingering affection for Peter, especially knowing that Peter possessed spider abilities, he understood that Peter would feel some estrangement and unfamiliarity towards him. Richard regretted their long separation and felt a pang of guilt.

"Son, some things are more complicated than you imagine..." Richard sighed, looking at Peter. "Your mother and I faked our deaths to escape some unwanted attention and to focus on my research."

"Mother faked her death too? Where is she now?" Peter, who had speculated about the truth of the matter upon seeing Richard, instinctively asked when he heard his mother mentioned.

"She passed away in an accident. Unfortunately, you didn't get to see her one last time..." Richard's expression turned somber as he spoke of Peter's mother.

"What was all this for? Just for your so-called research?" Peter took a deep breath, glancing towards the lighted area. He could see various experimental setups and research equipment, indicating that Richard was still working on his old projects.

"You were too young to understand. Your mother and I worked at Oscorp, but Norman Osborn had dangerous ambitions. He wanted to create a serum to enhance human abilities. I made some progress but realized such research couldn't be handed over to someone like Osborn. That's why we left Oscorp and went into hiding..." Richard shook his head, looking seriously at Peter.

"So, your serum is related to those spiders, right? My abilities and mutation are because of you, aren't they?" Peter stared directly at Richard, not avoiding the confrontation, and asked bluntly.

"Hmm?! How did you know?!" Richard's eyes flashed with surprise. He had assumed Peter's presence here was a coincidence, perhaps related to the Shadow Soldiers. But it seemed Peter knew more than he had expected.

Richard didn't realize that Peter had indeed come here while tracking the Shadow Soldiers, initially thinking this place was Tohru's hideout. But he hadn't expected to uncover the Parker and Osborn family feud.

"Isn't it obvious? Your lab is covered in spider symbols, and there's a giant spider behind your lab," Peter replied, looking towards the lab. His spider sense had detected a hidden threat—a giant spider almost the size of a car.

"You noticed?" Richard's lips curved into a slight smile. "You're indeed well-suited to my research outcomes. I used your and Mary's genes for the research. But I'm curious about your lightning abilities; they weren't part of my research."

"Those abilities are my own, unrelated to you..." Peter shook his head, looking at Richard. "So, you hid here to continue your experiments, and I was just a test subject you sent out into the world?"

"How can you say that? You're my son, the continuation of me and your mother. You were never just a test subject," Richard responded, a bit taken aback but smiling.

"Then why did you agree to Oscorp's serum research using our genes instead of Osborn's? And why, after your research showed results, did you send a spider to bite me instead of testing it on yourselves?" Peter questioned.

"Osborn's genes were too weak to be useful. And who says your mother and I didn't let the spider bite us?" Richard replied, smiling. "We've been apart too long, Peter. There are misunderstandings between us, but now that we're reunited, I'll be open with you."

"Your spider genes are still not fully developed. My continued research aims to perfect them. Now that you're here, I can help enhance your abilities..."

"Wait! Mother died because of the spider experiment?" Peter's anger flared, glaring at Richard.

"Oh?" Richard looked surprised but then nodded approvingly at Peter. "Yes, you're right. Mary couldn't survive the spider experiment. But it was voluntary; we had already tested many homeless people. Our data suggested our genes could handle it, but she failed."

Richard spoke casually, devoid of sadness over Mary's death or empathy for the homeless used as test subjects, as if they were mere lab rats.

"You called Norman Osborn ambitious, but you're the one with the real ambition. What are you truly after?!" Peter's eyes flashed with anger. Despite their lack of close familial bonds, discovering the truth made Peter wary of Richard, whom he now saw as almost grotesque.

In Peter's eyes, Richard was no longer family. Ben Parker and Aunt May were his real family. Now, facing Richard's ambition, Peter wanted to uncover his true motives. Spending decades in hiding, conducting experiments day after day, Peter couldn't believe Richard's goal was simply to create a single Spider-Man.

Richard must have a bigger, hidden agenda. Otherwise, there was no need for continued research once Peter became Spider-Man. Creating a Spider-Man wasn't enough, especially since Peter's initial frailty wasn't due to genetic issues like Harry Osborn's.

"What are you ultimately aiming for?!" Peter demanded.

"To evolve human life!" Richard's eyes gleamed with fanaticism. "Humanity is too weak. My research will bring about human evolution. I will be the pioneer of human civilization, a hero for all mankind!"

Before Richard finished speaking, a shadow lunged at Peter, who anticipated the attack and dodged, sticking to the ceiling. The shadow, a giant spider, clung to the ceiling as well. Peter could see its sharp legs and grotesque mouth clearly.

"Disgusting! I'm suddenly repelled by being Spider-Man..." Peter muttered, feeling uncomfortable seeing such a large and ugly spider.

"Peter, we could have worked together to create a brighter future for humanity. But now, since you reject me, I'll keep you here with me..." Richard said regretfully.

"Peter, your perspective needs to change. This spider is beautiful, like your late mother. You will become a god of human civilization!"

"A spider god? You've lost your mind!" Peter scoffed, shooting two electric webs at the spider, which only staggered but wasn't severely harmed, showing its superior strength compared to Shadow Soldiers.

"Peter, I'll study your abilities too, but your power is weak. I'll enhance it for you... So, stop resisting," Richard chuckled, shaking his head.

"Hah, if I were uninjured, a mere spider couldn't withstand my power!" Peter retorted, seeing the giant spider spew thick, sticky white webbing at him. He dodged, the web hitting the ceiling and corroding a large section, showing its destructive and toxic nature.

As Peter evaded, his spider sense blared a warning. He raised his arms just in time to block a powerful strike from the spider, sending him flying and crashing to the ground.

"Suggesting retreat. No nearby Avengers can assist, and even the armor may not arrive in time..." JARVIS's voice sounded as Peter got up, making him pause.

Before entering the subway, JARVIS had alerted Tony Stark and the others of Peter's location to prevent emergencies. But with the others occupied with Shadow Soldiers, there was no immediate help available, and JARVIS hadn't anticipated a father-son confrontation involving a giant spider.

Seeing Peter struggling, JARVIS decisively suggested a retreat.
