Chapter 98: Chapter 98: Kaito Is from Skypiea?
Using Earth Style, Kaito built a grave for the ambitious young man Enel, who had once dreamed of reaching the stars and the endless sea. As he did, a flicker of crackling lightning suddenly surged in Kaito's left eye.
Above Skypiea, thick thunderclouds rolled in, blanketing the sky. The deafening roar of thunder echoed across the heavens.
Seeing this ominous sight, Gan Fall and Conis were at a loss. Had Kaito actually been defeated by Enel? Was Enel truly that terrifying?
Boom!
Thick bolts of blue lightning came crashing down from above. Gan Fall and Conis instinctively shut their eyes.
The downpour of lightning lasted for quite a while before finally dying down. As Gan Fall and Conis opened their eyes, they looked at each other in confusion—they were completely unharmed.
What was going on? Wasn't the lightning targeting this place?
Gan Fall summoned his mount Pierre—a "sky-bird" that had eaten the Horse-Horse Fruit, essentially making it a Pegasus.
He leapt onto Pierre, and Conis quickly followed, sitting behind him.
The two soared into the sky on their Pegasus, heading straight for Enel's palace.
At this point, they were already deeply tied to Kaito. If he had truly lost, then they wouldn't escape Enel's wrath either. They might as well confirm the outcome of the battle for themselves.
...
When Gan Fall and Conis reached Enel's palace, they were stunned by what they saw.
Before them lay a heap of ruined buildings, the ground charred and scorched from lightning strikes. Kaito sat calmly beside a mound of earth, smiling at them.
"Kaito!"
Seeing that he was unharmed, Conis was overwhelmed with relief. She jumped off the Pegasus and ran to the seated Kaito.
This time, she didn't hesitate—she threw herself directly into his arms.
Tears welled up in her large eyes as she looked up at him and whimpered,
"Kaito, I'm so glad you're okay! When I saw all that lightning just now, I thought you'd lost to Enel!"
Kaito gently patted her back and said softly,
"It's okay now. Enel is dead. He's buried right next to me in that mound. The lightning just now... that was me."
"You summoned it?"
"Mhm."
Lightning sparked again in Kaito's eyes. A bolt crashed down just a short distance away, making Conis gasp in shock.
She looked in disbelief at the deep crater left behind and stared up at Kaito.
"Kaito... you can control lightning too?!"
"Heh, Enel's not the only one who can. There are plenty of creatures out there on the sea that can do the same."
"Really? That's amazing! But I bet none of them are as powerful as you!"
"Maybe. I wonder how I compare to Big Mom's Zeus."
"Big Mom? Who's that?"
"A pirate. Oh, I forgot to mention—I'm a Marine."
"A Marine? I know a little about them—they fight for justice! Heehee!"
Kaito could only give a helpless look as Conis acted playful in his arms. He picked her up and set her to the side, then stood and brushed the dirt off his clothes.
But Conis tugged at the hem of his shirt, eyes gleaming with curiosity.
"Kaito, are you... actually from Skypiea too?"
"Huh?"
A giant question mark practically appeared over Kaito's head. Why would she ask that? When did he ever have anything to do with the people of Skypiea?
Seeing him frozen, Conis assumed she'd guessed the truth. She tilted her head up proudly and said,
"I saw that purple giant you summoned! He had massive wings—way bigger than ours! So you must be from Skypiea too! You're just so strong, you can hide your wings, right?"
"..."
Kaito flicked her on the forehead.
"Don't make stuff up, dummy."
Conis held her forehead, looking wronged. In her heart, she thought Kaito must've gotten mad because she guessed his secret.
Kaito sighed and explained patiently,
"I'm really not from Skypiea. I'm from the Uchiha clan. That purple giant is the guardian spirit of my clan—it's not my true form."
"Ah... I see..."
Gan Fall, who had been silently watching the two chat like family, finally stepped forward, a little hesitant. He stood by Kaito's side and asked,
"Kaito-sama, may I ask what the lightning strikes were targeting earlier?"
"Oh, I was taking care of Enel's men—didn't want them causing any more trouble."
"I see..."
Gan Fall nodded, though inwardly he was reeling. That ability—the same one he had once feared most in Enel—had now reappeared in this man from the Blue Sea.
He knew all too well how terrifying this power was. Against it, enemies had nowhere to hide. It was practically invincible.
Suppressing his shock, Gan Fall looked anxiously at Kaito, unsure how this man who had defeated Enel would treat the people of Skypiea.
...
Just then, footsteps approached. A group of tribal-looking warriors and Skypieans arrived.
Among them were familiar faces from the anime—Wyper, Raki, and others.
Wyper and Raki were just coming of age. Aisa was still a child, cradled in Raki's arms.
Though young, Wyper had already become the de facto leader of the Shandians, thanks to his unmatched strength among his people. Upon seeing Gan Fall, he stepped forward to ask what had happened.
Gan Fall glanced nervously at Kaito before telling Wyper the truth—Kaito had defeated Enel.
Wyper's eyes widened in disbelief. The young man before him, who looked even younger than himself, had taken down Enel? The others behind him wore the same stunned expressions.
Raki, holding Aisa, was equally shocked. In her mind, Wyper was the strongest warrior of their tribe, and Enel was practically a god.
And now... someone far beyond either of them had appeared.
Kaito, who had been standing still this whole time, suddenly took a step forward.
Startled, the entire group instinctively took a step back.
Conis couldn't help but giggle and said,
"What are you all doing? You're acting like Kaito's some kind of monster!"
Gan Fall shot her a side glance.
Are you out of your mind? He thought. Your Kaito just killed Enel! Do you have any idea what that means?!
Wyper still couldn't believe it. Enel, who to him was nearly invincible, had been killed just like that? He hesitated, then said,
"I-I'm sorry, but... could I maybe see your power? I don't mean anything by it—it's just... Enel died so suddenly. I'm still trying to process it..."
Kaito cast a glance at Wyper. That one look made Wyper's hair stand on end. He immediately regretted his request—the sheer pressure alone was overwhelming.
But Kaito didn't hold it against him. In the anime, this guy had been a true warrior, after all. He might as well satisfy his curiosity.
Lightning flashed in Kaito's eyes.
A column of lightning fell from the sky, striking the ruins behind them. Wyper could only stare blankly as the bolt reduced what remained into a pile of blackened ash.
