Sous

Chapter 38: Hacate Arc: Three

She walked into the small court yard where the pixie boy stood leaning against the wall of where the elf girl went. Sous handed the bowl cup ot blood to the boy, shoving it in his hand. She gave his wand back.

"The wand was pointless, I had to break through the window," Sous told him.

"Yer don't know any distraction spells?" He took his wand back and stood forward next to Sous. "I'll teach yer the spell, the basic one. Move your hand like dis, in an 's' motion." He demonstrated the movement then handed the wand to Sous. Sous copied the motion, hearing the click of the lock. The boy placed the lock back on. "Now yer know it."

Sous followed the boy out of the courtyard, expecting her to follow him, the boy said nothing. They walked back into the main courtyard then to the entrance that allowed them to head toward the cafeteria.

Over by the large glass stained windows, Sous followed the boy to a girl with dark straight hair and red eyes, a vampire. Sous rolled her eyes. She was banished from the blood supply store because of a girl.

The pixie boy gave the bowl cup of blood to the girl, blushing while he did so. Sous placed her hands on her hips.

The vampire girl looked at the boy and smiled. She then looked behind her to see Sous. She raised her eye brows and turned herself on the bench to face Sous more directly.

"I never seen you before," she said. "Are you a transfer?"

Sous shook her head. "Nope, a first year. They just wanted me to settle in early."

The girl flicked her tongue on her left fang. "You sound different. Are you from here?" Sous shook her head.

"I gotta get goin', what's ya name?"

The girl pulled a strain of her hair behind her ear. "Makala, a second year."

"I'm Sous."

"Yer want to know my name?"

"No," Sous said turning on heals and exiting the cafeteria.

By the time, Sous made it to the agility field, it was almost lunch time. She saw a student who was tall and athletic, wearing gym apparel, facial fur including some in his ears.

Sous walked to him. "Peo?"

The young wolf turned to look at her a bit annoyed. He sniffed the air in Sous' personal space, doing his best to get an assessment of her without being too aggressive. When he was done, he stood back and crossed his arms.

"You were supposed to be here three hours ago," he scolded her. His skin was fair and his hair was short, almost in a buzz cut. He didn't seem to bother with shaving his fur; in fact, he seemed to take pride in it.

Sous didn't give him an answer, deciding it was best to remain quiet. Arguing or providing an excuse regardless of how truthful that excuse would probably agitate him. He was an Alpha and seemed to take such a gender role to an exertion. Even though she was mixed with all the other species, Peo could smell she too was an Alpha.

"Nothing to say?"

"I'm here now."

The two Alphas stood toe to toe with one another until Peo stepped to the side. He waved his arm and beckoned for Sous to follow him to the starting line.

"Here ar Hacate, we have several sports students can partake in. We have racing for both land and air. Vampires, fairies, pixies, and broom riders are on the air team. Wolves and elves are on the land team."

"Are there any humans here?"

Peo nodded his head. "There are a few but they mostly study alchemy or herbology since they can't do magic."

Peo placed his foot on the starting line and informed Sous to copy what he was doing. She got down low with her right foot back with her right knee slightly bent.

"When I say 'go', I want you to follow me so you can learn the terrain. The agility course is about 3 miles, the time to beat for a successful run is under ten minutes. Winners are always in the five minute bracket. Go!"

The first portion of the course consisted of them running on grass but the grass quickly transitioned into trees, meaning tree hoping was most efficient in this portion. When they got to the water, Peo ran on the water like second nature while Sous had to swim. Her swimming was slow and Peo had to pull her up. With the water weighing her down, she fell back significantly from Peo. When they caught to the cliffs, Sous was already tired, barely able to extract her nails to climb the rocks. Peo once more had to wait for her. He didn't seem annoyed by it like she thought he would be. He was kind and patient to her surprised, and by the time they finished the course, Sous had a lost a pair of shoe, unsure of where it fell off.

She collapsed onto the ground breathing heavily, wanting to take her clothes off to feel more of the sun on her skin.

"Fourteen minutes and twenty-one seconds." He looked at Sous, walking to her and sitting down next to the ground next to her. "You don't know how to run on water. I think that's where things slipped up. Wolves can only run on water when we hit 80 miles per hour but since you have so much in your blood, you can also use magic, or you can focus your magae energy in your feet. You're lucky. You have a few options." He patted her on the stomach. "I'm here most days so come back if you want to practice again."

Sous had her wand in her hand and a different set of clothes on. After meeting with Peo, she went to lunch then to her room to change.

Makala stood by the door in the small courtyard. Sous stopped walking, puzzled to see her there. She leaned on the wall with her hands folded against her chest. When she saw Sous, she waved her over to her.

"I spoke to Chelsea and she took the posters down."

"Chelsea?"

"Nicholas told me what he did to get the blood. He has a thing for me. I felt bad. I went to Harleys Blood Supply and paid for the paid. I also apologized to the cashier and she took your posters down," Makala explained. "If you want someone to teach you how to unlock locks, I can. I only know two levels though."

Sous nodded her head at Makala, saying bye as she left back to the main courtyard back to campus. Sous turned back to the door and took out her wand. It was a silent spell, no words needed. She had messed up a few times but finally managed to get the lock undone. She took a breath and opened the door. All she wanted to do was speak to this elf girl. Find out where she was from, what she knew about Apex.

The door was heavy to push open all the way and heavy to close too. The elf made it look so effortless.

When she took her first step, she fell into water. Annoyed she was wet all over again. Did the elf girl really come in and swim somewhere?

Sous took a deep breath and submerged herself into the water. The passage way was narrow and she wasn't able to see the ground from where she swam. She bobbed her head to for more air and noticed she seemed to be moving deeper into a cave. Her heart began to beat faster and she was unsure if she should continue onward, or turn back.

She didn't understand why there was such a place like this at the school. A place that led straight into water.

Her hands used the walls of the cave to guide her deeper into the cave. She tried to move forward but her foot caught on something. She submerged her head into water. Air escaped her mouth. A hand was clasped over her foot and suddenly she began to be dragged down further into the water. She was losing air as she tried to claw her way back to the surface. She was wasting energy. She pointed her wand downward, not able to see where or who she was aiming at. There wasn't much time left, the darkness was enveloping her.

But there was a problem. All of the spells she knew, needed verbal commands with the exception of the lock spell. She thought of the seal on her neck and the potion she drank of her dad. She didn't know how to tap into either power but she thought of something that might work. If it didn't work, it would be completely suicidal.

Sous pointed the tip of her wand to her neck where the burned black seal was. She tapped the wand on her neck three times. On the fourth time, she stabbed the wand into her neck, yelling out as the pain surged through her body. A piecing red light emerged from her, blowing her towards the deeper depths of the water.

The air escaped her lungs and the water entered, her sight blurred then completely turned back. Her body trembled then went completely numb. This was it, surely. She was dead.
