Sous

Chapter 37: Hacate Arc: Two

It was weird for Sous to wake up in the morning to pure silence. No guns being shot for target practice, no love potions being sold in the store below the apartment, no screaming, yelling, the pouring of beer in a mug. It was just silence.

Before getting out of bed, she looked around her room. She was still the only one there and it would be like that until a couple of months.

She sat on the edge of her bed touching the hard wooden floors. She looked at the egg to make sure it was doing well and it seemed to be coming along.

The one good thing was her being so close to the library. After she finished getting dressed and doing her face, and teeth, she left her room, going through the gate to the library. Just as she looked around to see where she wanted to start off, her stomach began to growl. She laughed, making her way to the exit wondering if she could remember where the cafeteria even was.

Once she made it to the main stair case, she wasn't sure where to go from there. Since there weren't many students around, she came to the conclusion she probably had to ask around.

"Oh wait, the admissions office!" She ran back up the main stair case to the admissions floor. She at least remembered this floor.

She walked down to the office where she remembered Jacob being sent to and where her and Shadow had to wait. She walked past the chairs they sat in and tapped on the door of the office. No answered. When she tapped again, the door opened. Sous pushed the door to the side, seeing the light in the office was on but no one sat in the desk of rows in the office.

Her eyes went from desk to desk looking at paperwork, folders, and other miscellaneous items. Over towards the back of the office was another room. The door was closed and locked when she tried to open it. Next to the door was a painting of a man. He looked to be in his sixties. He wore a purple robe with a wizard hat. His wand was in his left hand as she crossed his arms.

Sous patted herself down, realizing she had forgot her wand in her room.

"Sous, daughter of Puimo," the headmaster announced. He unlocked the door to his office. "How are you liking Hacate?"

"Uh..." she said, not knowing who this man was until she looked at the painting on the wall. "Headmaster Fanu," she read. He was a tall man with a beard but it wasn't white nor long. He pulled at it, seeming to be self-conscious of it.

"Your father was an amazing student, but he wanted to go back to Canas for whatever reason." His office was clean surprisingly and was quite spacious with a window that faced the direction of Valley of Trey. Sous walked toward the window looking out, still a bit upset she wasn't able to go there.

Sous shrugged walking in front of Fanu's desk. "Its just my first day. I plan to go back to the library after breakfast. Where's the cafeteria?"

It was nice of Fanu to walk Sous to the cafeteria. Prior to him departing, he told her he wanted her to meet with a fifth year wolf student by the name of Peo. Fanu claimed he was the fastest student on campus and thought it would be nice of Sous to make a friend who was an upperclassmen. So after breakfast, Sous checked the campus map that was at the front entrance of the school. Just when she was about to start walking toward the agility course, she caught the sight of an elf.

Her breathe hitched in her throat, watching the young girl walk past her. Sous began to jump to conclusions and automatically assume this elf was from the mountains. She did what any logical person would do...she stalked her.

The elf, she followed into a different wing of the school, a section she hadn't seen just yet. There was another court yard the elf entered. Sous took this opportunity to extract her nails and climb up the building to get a better view and be less detected.

The elf student exited from the courtyard but when she did, she stopped to pet a cat that was standing near the entrance of bolted door.

Once she was done playing with the cat, the elf student took her wand, tapped the lock, allowing the door to open. She entered, the door closing behind her.

Sous jumped down to the ground, scaring the cat. She pushed the door but it was locked. She patted herself once more.

"Tsk, my wand," she complained. She forgot to go back to get it but even if she did get it, she didn't know the spell the elf student did. She took a large sniff of the air, trying her best to catalog the scent of the elf.

Sous stepped back, looking at the door. She ran and kicked it.

"What chu doing?"

"Nut'an," Sous responded back. She looked to see a boy, a pixie, with antennas already in, clear double wings upon his back, and one fang, the other not finished growing in. He had orange hair with long eyelashes. He wore glasses and had snot coming out of his nose. Taking his back hand, he wiped his nose then wiped his hand on his clothes.

"You're not allowed in thur."

She looked the pixie boy up and down. "You seem annoying," she said. She walked past the boy but he followed her.

"Imma tell on you for trying to get in that door," he said.

"Tattle tell!"

"I could not tell on yer, if yer do me a fava." Sous turned around to look at the snot nose pixie boy. "I can unlock that door thur. My sista taught me many lock spells. Dat thur door is a basic lock spell. Yes ma'am, I can unlock dat thur door for yer."

"What you want?" Sous asked.

"Blood."

"Why? You ain't a vampire."

"Non yer business," the boy snapped back.

"Is it free?"

"Hell nah, it ain't free."

"Tsk," Sous smacked her lips. "I ain't getting it."

"Yer ain't gettin dat door."

"FUCK YOU!"

Sous and the boy stared at one another, another patch of snot came out of his nose. He took his hand once more and wiped it away. After doing that, he dug deep into his pockets and pulled some don. He handed it to Sous.

"Go into the village of Fornik and go to the store Harleys Blood Supply. Buy a quart with dat don. I'll be waiting hur. Do yer have yer wand?"

"No, I left it in my room," Sous said patting herself.

The boy handed her his wand. "Use mine."

The quickest way into Fornik was tree hoping, something she came close to mastering thanks to Shadow. While going from branch to branch, Sous saw other wolves doing the same thing.

"Oh shoot!" She slipped on a branch and fell down to the ground, landing on all fours. "I forgot, I was supposed to meet with that wolf. What was his name?" She looked back toward campus then toward Fornik. "Tsk." She continued onward to Fornik.

When she got to the village, she jumped down onto the bridge that crossed over a little river, leaning further in. She saw many people, more than she expected. Some of them were students still on campus while others were adults shopping.

There were stores for everything and anything, stores for magae and stores for humans even.

She managed to find the store Harleys and walked inside. It wasn't busy so she was able to go right up to the counter. The vampire behind the counter seemed young and was more preoccupied with the gum she was smacking on, and some magazine.

"Hi! I'd like to buy a quart of blood."

The young girl looked over the counter at Sous. Without saying anything, she pointed to a sign that read 'Must Be 18'.

"Are you kidding me?" Sous yelled out. The girl looked at her and popped her gum, going back to her magazine.

Sous stepped outside watching people shop, go in and out of stores but what caught her eye was a delivery man taking packages to the back of a store. Sous turned around to see there was an alley behind the store. She squeezed through a thin wall that allowed her to get to the back of the alley where the trash was.

On the bottom of the store, there was a basement window. She got on her knees with the wand in her hand. There were still spells she didn't know to get through. She couldn't do Ignis, or any of the other elemental spells. She could do Gladius but she didn't need a sword to break a window.

CRASH!

The glass fell onto the floor, the basement window shattered. Sous climbed through the window and landed perfectly.

She shivered, the basement being extremely cold because of the frozen blood. She walked through the the rows and columns searching for a quart of blood.

In the very back, she opened a freezer and found small little quarts of blood packaged in bowl cups.

"Bingo..."

She turned around and saw the teenager in front of her, smacking her gum. She rolled her eyes and went into the freezer and pulled some bowl cups as well. The vampire slammed the top down on the freezer. The girl took out an electric device and snapped Sous' picture.

"What is that?"

"A cell phone, humans invented it. Your picture is going to be posted on the wall in the store. You are not allowed to come back here, little brat." She rolled her eyes and walked away, but not before taking another five images of Sous.

Sous climbed out the window and squeezed through the gap once more instead of walking down the alley. She stood in front of the store while the vampire girl printed and posted the large scale images in the front entrance. Sous sighed. She hadn't even been in Hacate for a full day and already her face was being plastered on doors as a thief. She was going to kick that pixie boy's butt when she got back to campus. And she was going to do it with his own wand!

She went back to tree hopping to get back to campus. If she still had time, she needed to meet with that wolf, but she was sure he was probably already gone. She was going to have to apologize to him and then kick the pixie boy's butt once more.
