So I Became a Witch and Started Doing Daily Quests

Ch. 142

Chapter 142: The Joint Examination of the Three Schools

Since there had not been another evaluation opportunity after the talent upgrade, except for Anthony-Rook and a few professors who had been informed by him, no one else knew about Janna’s talent reaching common grade.

Even Vivian, who had always been close to Janna, only realized at this moment that the calm-faced girl before her had once again hidden something from her.

"You—"

Seeing Vivian's mouth wide enough to fit an egg, Janna, as she sat back in her seat, patted Vivian's leg under the desk, signaling her not to make such an unladylike expression.

"You’ve been away for so long, of course I made some progress. Besides, didn’t you also keep something from me?"

Seeing that Vivian remained silent, and knowing her personality well, Janna took the initiative, standing on the moral high ground and striking first.

"How is that the same? I signed a confidentiality contract with my family! If I could tell you, I would’ve done so already!"

Looking at Vivian’s puffed-up expression, although Janna showed nothing on her face, she found it quite amusing inside.

"Then we’re even. Besides, powerful wizards always have their own secrets—you’d better get used to it soon."

"Is that so? How come I’ve never heard that before?"

"That’s why I have to teach you slowly—"

"Vivian Rose—"

Before Vivian could reply, Grace Eva’s voice came from the podium.

"Good luck!"

Seeing Vivian preparing to stand, Janna also took the chance to cheer her on.

At that, Vivian, who had only been pretending to be mad, looked at Janna’s beaming face and made a victory gesture toward her.

"Buzz—"

As Vivian stepped onto the podium and placed her right hand flat on the crystal ball, seeing the blue-white light flash across the crystal, Grace Eva raised her eyebrow slightly.

"Apprentice Level 11, Spirit Power 20.5, Wizard Talent B-level 【Freezing】—not bad, good luck."

Faced with Grace Eva’s sharp gaze that seemed to see through everything, Vivian immediately lowered her head.

"Thank you, Professor Eva."

After leaving the podium, Vivian quickly returned to her seat.

"What’s wrong? Did Professor Eva say something to you?"

Seeing Vivian’s strange expression as she sat down, Janna couldn’t help but ask curiously.

"Mm—nothing escapes the eyes of these wizards."

Hearing Vivian’s vague comment, Janna didn’t press further and instead turned her attention back to the ongoing evaluation on the podium.

"Bell Moonshadow, Apprentice Level 11, Spirit Power 20.2, Wizard Talents B-level 【Shadow Affinity】, C-level 【Fog Affinity】."

Watching Bell Moonshadow descend from the podium, Janna nodded toward her.

But when Bell Moonshadow saw Janna, a flicker of panic passed through her eyes.

She then glanced at Vivian beside her before nodding to Janna and quickly returning to her seat in the last row.

"Didn’t expect she also reached Second Tier Wizard Apprentice."

Although they had been in a team once, after the mission ended, Vivian—who never liked Bell Moonshadow—hadn’t interacted with her since. Even when running into her, she only gave a reluctant nod without speaking.

"She’s actually not bad. You’ll see once you get to know her more."

"I don’t think so—what? While I was gone, did you spend a lot of time with her?"

"Almost every day."

Perhaps because it had been so long since she saw Vivian, Janna couldn’t help teasing her. And Vivian’s reactions were always so fitting that Janna could get her every time.

"Do you know that a friendship among three people is actually really crowded? It might lead to big trouble!"

"Stop fearmongering."

After about an hour, the evaluation for the 【Defense Against Dark Magic】 class was complete.

Among the entire class, six had broken through to Second Tier Wizard Apprentice. Besides Janna, Vivian, Bell Moonshadow, and Andre Green, the other two were also apprentices from wizard families.

Aside from them, over thirty people remained stuck at a Spirit Power of 9 and still hadn’t stepped over the threshold of First Tier Apprentice.

As a result, these individuals were required to process their withdrawal procedures by 9 p.m. tonight and take the Magical Steam Airship to leave the Turin wizard enclave.

Life changed in an instant, and opportunities were fleeting. If one failed to grasp them firmly, it would be hard to find another chance to restart.

"Alright, everyone quiet down."

Just as Grace Eva stepped out of the classroom, Mary Margaret walked in with two delicate drawing lots containers.

"In a moment, I’ll call names in order. When your name is called, come here and draw your lot—those who have reached Second Tier Apprentice will draw from the left container, the rest from the right one."

After briskly explaining the rules, Mary Margaret placed the two drawing lots containers on the podium.

"Caw—caw—"

Just as Mary Margaret was about to start calling names, a plump Rook flapped its wings swiftly and landed beside the podium.

"Professor Margaret, there’s a verbal message from the Headmaster."

"Speak."

Frowning impatiently at the Rook’s noisy voice, Mary Margaret leaned in as it whispered via magical transmission. Without lingering, the Rook flapped its wings and quickly left the classroom after delivering its message.

"What a hassle."

Watching the Rook leave, Mary Margaret put down her roll call list and spoke irritably to the apprentices:

"Listen up. In a moment, Second Tier Apprentices will draw lots first—after completing the spellcasting exam, you lot will go straight to the first floor, meet up with other Second Tier Apprentices from different grades, then follow the Headmaster to Blackbone Grove to participate in the Joint Examination of the Three Schools..."

"Of course, if you’ve left anything in the dorm, go retrieve it quickly—but don’t be late."

Upon hearing this, Janna and Vivian quickly exchanged glances, both seeing surprise and confusion in each other’s eyes.

"This is really rushed. Did something happen?"

Having the same suspicion, Janna didn’t voice it but turned her eyes back to the podium.

"The first one, Maro Heigel, let’s start with you."

Hearing this, a black-haired male apprentice with plain features but a surprisingly harmonious face stood from his seat, walked up to Mary Margaret, and gave a respectful bow before drawing his lot.

"So that’s Maro Heigel—turns out he belongs to the same family as Lucia Heigel, the Headmaster of Blackbone Grove."
