Chapter 141: A-Level Talent
Janna’s current advantages, aside from being able to directly allocate points through the “Daily Quest System,” were the [Law of Growth Fragment] and the [Insight into the Law of Purification]—both were essentially entry tickets that allowed her a glimpse into the realm of [Law Authority].
However, while [Laws] were rare, there were still many avenues for comprehending them.
Since Janna could have the Celestial Finch bring her to the Holy Realm of Heaven to comprehend the [Law of Purification], those top-tier wizard families with ancient lineages naturally had their own methods to enable their talented members to begin their enlightenment early.
Moreover, those family disciples didn’t have to fumble around like Janna, crossing the river by feeling the stones.
The formal instruction from official wizards, akin to “passing on guidance,” was enough to help them avoid countless detours before officially ascending as wizards.
“For some people, the ‘White Tower’ is the ultimate goal of a lifetime—for others, the White Tower is merely the starting point on the path of wizardry——”
Ding-ling-ling—accompanied by a crisp bell sound, Janna’s drifting thoughts gradually returned to the classroom examination.
“Today, I will be in charge of your level evaluation. I will call your names one by one according to the roll call list—remember, no one is allowed to leave the classroom without my permission.”
The one in charge of the Defense Against Dark Magic course evaluation was none other than Grace Eva.
After she placed a crystal ball roughly the size of a football on the podium, she took out a roll call sheet and officially began the session.
“First up, Andre Green, come forward.”
Upon hearing he was the first, Andre Green—who possessed the B-level [High Temperature] talent and had just advanced to a Second Tier Wizard Apprentice last week—calmly walked up to the podium. Following Grace Eva’s instructions, he focused his magic, concentrated his mind, and pressed his right hand firmly against the crystal ball.
“Apprentice Level 10, Spirit Power 20.1, Wizard Talent B-level [High Temperature]—not bad, keep it up.”
“Thank you, Professor.”
After completing the evaluation, Andre Green let out a deep breath. Though his expression didn’t change much, the emotion in his eyes exuded confidence.
“Who would’ve thought Andre, the commoner apprentice, would break through before us—”
Looking at Andre Green, who had returned to his seat, an apprentice who had previously quarreled with him clearly looked displeased.
“I heard he signed a loyalty pact with the Flare Family—otherwise, with just his own ability, how could he break through so quickly—”
“Hmph, so he latched onto the Flare Family. I knew it—how could a commoner apprentice advance so quickly? He pretended to be all aloof, but when given the chance, he shamelessly grabbed it. In the end, isn’t he just someone’s lapdog——”
This kind of shadowing malice had surrounded Andre Green since the day he entered White Coral Academy.
At first, he would argue in frustration, but over time, he became desensitized to these noble family apprentices who did nothing but gossip from the shadows.
These baseless insults, contempt, exclusion, and bullying were not because Andre Green had done anything evil—it was solely because he bore the title of “commoner apprentice” and had repeatedly rejected recruitment offers from various wizard families.
That was enough to spark targeted ostracism.
As if the title “commoner apprentice” were some kind of filthy curse—as long as he didn’t follow their expected script, he would be subjected to endless suppression.
Like this time, he had merely taken on a few missions in collaboration with the Flare Family to earn a high reward. Yet, rumors began to spread that he had signed a “loyalty pact” with them, and that was the only reason he obtained enough resources to smoothly advance to Second Tier Wizard Apprentice. Ultimately, those who hated him didn’t care about the truth.
What they believed would always only be what they wanted to believe.
As long as he wasn’t on their side, this malice would continue to follow him... until his fists were strong enough to silence it!
“Hoo——”
Letting out a long breath, as Grace Eva’s roll call quickened, Andre Green’s gaze instinctively drifted toward the slender figure seated diagonally in front of him.
That figure, with a perfectly straight back, had always silenced all criticism with absolute strength——
She, too, hailed from the Lower City.
She, too, bore the title of commoner apprentice.
She, too, had rejected recruitment offers from wizard families. Yet her circumstances—and how the noble apprentices treated her—were worlds apart from his.
It was as if she were the bright moon hanging in the night sky, while he was but a grain of sand in the mud. Everything about them seemed the same... and yet everything was different.
Even after countless replays and comparisons, she remained who she was—and he remained nothing more than that “commoner apprentice” desperate to escape his current reality.
“Janna Roland.”
Hearing Grace Eva call that name, Andre Green—who had been deep in thought—immediately focused his gaze on Janna, who had already stepped up to the podium.
Her expression was serene, her posture graceful.
Looking at the girl he had always viewed as his target, even though their wizard levels were now on par, every time he saw her, that self-doubting, guilt-ridden feeling struck like a curse, deeply rooted and inescapable.
“Apprentice Level 14, Spirit Power 23.1, Wizard Talent B-level [Plant Affinity] and A-level [Spirit Phase Travel], not bad, keep it up.”
A-level——
[Spirit Phase Travel]!?
If the already overwhelming Apprentice Level 14 and Spirit Power of 23.1 weren’t enough to break one’s defenses, then the A-level [Spirit Phase Travel] talent was enough to make Andre—and the entire class—question whether they’d heard it wrong.
“Principal Anthony has already spoken to me. Perform well—don’t let us down.”
Hearing Grace Eva’s voice transmitting beside her, Janna nodded, thanked her, and then turned to face the class’s shocked, scrutinizing gazes.
She calmly returned to her seat.
“She—she’s actually an A-level talent!?”
Seeing the composed figure settle down nearby, for a brief moment, Andre Green’s heart skipped a beat.
Then, a bitter smile he couldn’t suppress spread across his face, like ink dropped into a pond, slowly rippling outward.
“As expected of her—Janna Roland.”
