Chapter 124: Ultra-Long-Range Casting
"This is ultra-long-range casting. Once you get the chance to take the [Advanced Contract Studies] course, you’ll be able to master it."
Upon hearing this, Janna Roland gently pressed her lips together.
Given the current pace at which the principal was teaching [Introductory Contract Studies], Janna wasn’t even sure if she would get the chance to finish the subsequent courses before graduation.
"Right, I studied [Advanced Contract Studies] at the White Tower. I signed a confidentiality agreement, so our academy can’t teach this advanced course—it’s the same with [Advanced Medical Studies] too."
These words sparked some doubt in Janna’s heart.
"But I saw the exchange channels for these two advanced courses on the crystalline wall of the Magic Tower—"
"That’s fake."
Then what’s real?
Once a course at White Coral Academy is exchanged, academic credits aren’t refunded. If an uninformed apprentice were to waste their credits, wouldn’t that be terrible?
"Don’t worry. Those exchange channels are also fake. Even if you do exchange them, the academy will refund your credits."
As though her inner thoughts had been seen through, Janna looked at Anthony-Rook, who still faced forward, and immediately used her [Muscle Control] talent to adjust her expression into an unreadable calm.
"Bang bang bang—"
As time slowly passed, surging witchcraft energy exploded throughout the Misty Forest, continuously attacking the shadow creatures and giving those apprentices who were still desperately resisting a chance to escape.
"Looks like the other two academies have also started to take action."
Moreover, in order to protect Turin City and the academy from shadow creature incursions, Grace Eva, Mary Margaret, and other First Tier Wizards of White Coral Academy had also moved under Anthony-Rook’s command, exterminating the ceaseless shadow creatures with overwhelming force.
"Let’s release one more and then go back."
"Okay."
Taking another specially made rune handed over by Anthony-Rook, and under rapid spellcasting, a blue-white firework several times larger than the previous one suddenly burst in the air.
Like stars filling the sky, it lit the night like daylight.
"Thud—"
A claw covered in crimson scales pierced through a human head.
With the coordination of a Skeletal Guard and Richard Eva, Soro Flare finally landed the finishing blow, tearing open the Twin-Headed Serpent’s head.
"Richard, are you okay?"
Wiping off the ink-like serpent blood on his hands and confirming the Twin-Headed Serpent was dead, Soro Flare lightly leapt back to Richard Eva’s side.
"I’m fine, just a fractured leg bone. Nothing serious."
Seeing that the Twin-Headed Serpent had perished and its skeleton had been scattered dozens of times, the Skeletal Guard retrieved its bones and returned to the Death Realm in a flash of pale light.
"Let’s go. This is already the second Emergency Recall Signal. If we don’t hurry back, the Vine Corridor might get sealed off."
Looking at the blue-white flames shining like stars in the sky, Richard Eva gave a reminder and then spread his bat wings, flying swiftly out of the Misty Forest.
"Wait for me!"
Seeing Richard Eva leaving, Soro Flare retrieved the magic core of the Twin-Headed Serpent and also ran quickly out of the Misty Forest.
Under the joint assault of the formal wizards from all academies, any shadow creature that dared to show itself was slaughtered without mercy.
Still, some apprentices never received the academy’s rescue in time and quietly perished in the Misty Forest.
Fortunately, thanks to Anthony-Rook’s quick actions and the fact that White Coral Academy’s apprentices had departed later than those of other academies, they had not gone far when Janna’s Forced Summoning Order recalled them.
This resulted in White Coral Academy’s apprentices suffering the least damage in this incident.
The apprentices from Blackbone Grove, who were the first to receive the news and investigate the depths of the Misty Forest, weren’t as lucky.
Most of the casualties occurred in Blackbone Grove, which suffered severe losses.
"You head back first. I’ll have a Rook inform you and your squad when it’s time to collect the rewards from Blackbone Grove—of course, including the portion I promised."
"Thank you, Principal. I’ll head back now."
Returning to the academy along the Vine Corridor, Janna had just arrived when she immediately sensed the lively and noisy atmosphere within.
Even though everyone was more or less injured, the joy of having hunted high-level shadow creatures with the help of the principal’s Skeletal Guard easily overshadowed their minor wounds.
"Right, the rewards—"
Though the rewards from Blackbone Grove and the principal’s promised share hadn’t yet arrived, Janna hadn’t examined the readily available quest system rewards due to time constraints and had only skimmed them.
"I’ll head back to the dormitory first."
Looking at the bustling crowd around her, Janna first located a Rook on a tree, paid 0.1 academic credits, and entrusted it with a message to Vivian Rose and Bell Moonshadow to inform them that she had returned safely.
"Looks like it’s necessary to train Aph to handle messenger duties from now on—"
Since Janna still didn’t know where Bell Moonshadow’s dormitory was located, she chose to spend some credits again to have a Rook deliver the message.
"The principal said that if I can master Anchor Point Positioning, then in theory, I could use the technique of [Ultra-Long-Range Summoning] to summon Aph directly to their location—"
Of course, this technique belonged to the [Advanced Contract Studies] course. According to Anthony-Rook, Janna could only learn it by furthering her studies at Dordogne’s White Tower.
Not only that, but [Advanced Medical Studies] was in the same situation.
This gave Janna the impression that all advanced courses were monopolized by those high-tier wizard hubs.
"Maybe it’s also because White Coral Academy, or even Turin itself, is too small of a Third Tier Wizard hub—"
On the Western Continent, there were only four Second Tier Wizard hubs: Phoenix City, Dordogne, Atlantis, and Florence. But beneath these four, over a hundred Third Tier Wizard hubs were attached.
These Third Tier hubs, varying in size and separated by distance, were nonetheless locked in constant competition.
After all, resources were limited. A medium-sized, mid-ranked Third Tier Wizard hub like Turin couldn’t expect to access too many resources.
The academies within the top-ranked Third Tier Wizard hubs surely wouldn’t be unable to access [Advanced Courses].
Of course, there were plenty of wizard hubs worse off than Turin.
