Chapter 112: Second Spirit Summoning
After completing the skill upgrade, Janna’s Shaping Spell had become smooth and refined.
Not only had the stability issue been resolved, but Janna could now reshape the Celestial Finch into a Rook, a Berry, a Gold Surrel, and even into threads of magical energy as fine as strands of hair.
"Very good! I see many of you have already grasped the essence of the Shaping Spell. Not bad at all!"
Because many Third Tier Apprentices were "held back," this group of apprentices, although not proficient in Introductory Medical Studies, had already mastered this kind of basic technique early on.
So, among those present, except for a few, most could roughly cast the Shaping Spell, but—
Turning their heads to look at the misty, dreamlike Shaping Spell in Janna’s hand, the Third Tier Apprentices couldn’t understand how this Second Tier Apprentice, who seemed to have only recently started learning the Shaping Spell, had managed to master it so quickly.
Her proficiency had even reached a level that made the "repeat students" feel ashamed.
"Those who didn’t succeed, go back and practice. If I see anyone unable to cast the Shaping Spell in the next class, there’s no point in attending anymore."
Inside the classroom, one could hear a pin drop.
Other than Anthony-Rook’s lecture, no one dared utter a word.
This atmosphere persisted until the class ended—
"Alright, class dismissed."
"Goodbye, Professor Anthony—"
Watching Anthony-Rook stride quickly out of the classroom, Janna let out a sigh of relief.
For some reason, whenever she attended Anthony-Rook’s class, Janna always felt a sense of pressure.
It was as if he were an insurmountable mountain; a single word or a mere glance from him could place immense pressure on her. Yet, this sensation didn’t occur in the classes taught by other wizard professors.
"Even though they’re all First Tier Wizards, the aura around the Headmaster is clearly stronger than that of the others———"
The Introductory Medical Studies class was long. By the time Janna left the Magic Tower, the night sky was already full of stars.
When she returned to the dormitory, the hour hand of the Mechanical Clock on the wall pointed to ten o’clock.
"Hmm? Another academy notice?"
Opening the window, Janna saw an academy notice placed on the windowsill by a Rook.
She casually tore open the envelope and quickly skimmed through its contents.
"As expected, it’s a mandatory mission from the academy."
[Notice: To ensure the safety of Turin City and defend against the incursion of shadow creatures, starting the day after tomorrow, all apprentices of White Coral Academy must proceed to the Misty Forest to hunt shadow creatures — White Coral Academy & Anthony-Rook. (Note: Team operations recommended. Each shadow creature hunted will reward one Academic Credit.)]
"Hmm? There’s another letter."
Just as she was about to close the window, Janna noticed another unopened letter tucked behind the window panel.
[Dear Miss Janna Roland, due to the shadow creature incursion, all entertainment venues in Turin City will be closed starting tomorrow. The Nightingale Opera Troupe will suspend operations for one week. Specific reopening and resumption times will be announced later — Nightingale Opera Troupe & Julie Anne.]
"So it’s a closure notice—though I wonder if the Nightingale Opera Troupe is offering paid leave this week."
After confirming there wasn’t a third letter, Janna closed the window, placed both letters on the experiment table, took off her Wizard Robe, and stepped into the washroom to take a shower.
"The fact that the academy can ultimately decide to dispatch apprentices for mandatory missions shows that the shadow creatures emerging from the spatial rift aren’t considered highly dangerous———"
As water splashed from the showerhead, Janna adjusted the temperature to around forty degrees and began rinsing off.
As the day’s fatigue washed away, her previously drowsy mind gradually became clear.
"One shadow creature is worth one Academic Credit. Currently, apprentices from the three major academies are practically pouring out in full force. Without some skills, one might not even be able to compete for resources. Perhaps it’s time to advance the Spirit Summoning a bit—"
Because she had only just completed her second Contract Summoning a few days ago, Janna’s soul state hadn’t yet returned to peak condition.
According to the normal recovery schedule, it would take about three more days for her depleted Soul Power to fully recover.
"Spirit Summoning doesn’t consume that much Soul Power. With my current condition, it’s more than sufficient. There’s no need to wait three more days."
Turning off the showerhead, Janna wiped the water from her body with a towel, quickly cast a Cleaning Spell on herself, then put on her pajamas and sat cross-legged on the bed.
"I already have two Contract Summoned Creatures. The Celestial Finch is for support, the Thornflower Sprite is for control, and the newly contracted Hundred-Eyed Specter, though excellent in illusions, is mainly for tactical use and hiding or escaping—in short, still a support and control role. So this time, I need to summon a Contract Summoned Creature with strong burst power—"
The Spirit Summoning that Janna currently mastered was only a Low-Rank Summoning Ritual, targeting planes like the one from which the Thornflower Sprite had been contracted—elemental planes, with typical options being fire, water, rock, wind, and metal spirits. In terms of burst power, fire and ice element spirits were both excellent choices.
"Without precise coordinates, to designate a plane, extra materials are required—"
So far, Janna had marked coordinates for three planes: the Thorny Plane, the Mirror Layer Domain, and the Heavenly Mountain she had accidentally marked a few days ago when breaking through to an A-level talent.
The Mirror Layer Domain and the Heavenly Mountain did not fall within the scope of the Low-Rank Spirit Summoning Ritual due to their elemental attributes, so they were excluded from consideration.
As for the Thorny Plane, where she had contracted Laura, it did contain some high-level plant element spirits, but for a mere Second Tier Wizard Apprentice like Janna, they were unmanageable.
The weaker ones were even inferior to the Thornflower Sprite, so that plane was not a viable choice either.
"Summoning rituals for light, dark, and lightning elemental planes likely fall under the category of High-Rank Spirit Summoning Rituals. In terms of attack power and potential, these types of elemental spirits are indeed superior."
Especially the "Angels" from the Celestial Realm—they were simply the pinnacle of light-element magical creatures.
"Looks like I’ll have to find a way through Aph. If she truly is the legendary 'Reserve of Holy Light,' her future potential would be absolutely immeasurable—"
