Ch. 111
Chapter 111: Introductory Medical Studies
The “Introductory Medical Studies” course, originally scheduled to start at 8:30 tonight, had its time changed once again—it would now begin at 6:00 in the evening, just half an hour from now.
When Vivian heard that Janna was going to attend the principal’s elective course, her expression turned somewhat peculiar.
“You didn’t pick up another new elective again, did you?”
“You guessed right.”
...
Under Vivian’s resigned gaze, Janna hurriedly left the classroom.
Taking the elevator, she once again arrived at the magical plant cultivation room that the White Ballet Shoes Club had used as a meeting room the day before.
“Nineteen people—”
Arriving at the classroom door just thirty minutes before class, Janna took a rough glance around.
Compared to popular courses like [Transfiguration], the classroom for “Introductory Medical Studies” was much more quiet. However, there were still twice as many students as there had been in the principal’s [Contract Studies] class.
“Guyaa—”
Pushing the door open gently, the previously silent classroom stirred the moment Janna entered.
Even the apprentices who had their heads down lifted them to look at the “campus celebrity,” Janna.
Accustomed to being the center of attention, Janna simply found a relatively front-row seat out of habit and quietly sat down.
“Judging from the magical fluctuations coming off these apprentices, most of them are Third Tier Wizard Apprentices——”
Unlike [Transfiguration], which heavily depended on talent in the field of Mysticism and was not restricted by one’s wizard rank, “Introductory Medical Studies” placed greater emphasis on the caster’s ability to control and manipulate magic power, as well as whether the caster’s magical attributes were suitable for medical-type witchcraft.
Medical-type witchcraft was divided into [Passive Witchcraft] and [Active Witchcraft].
Among them, [Passive Witchcraft] required high stability in magical particles and was mostly used for grafting and suture-type surgical procedures.
Therefore, necromantic magic power, which had extreme passive traits, was most suitable for this kind of witchcraft, followed by plant-based magic with healing properties, and then the relatively gentle water-based magic.
[Active Witchcraft] mainly targeted severe external injuries (like severed limbs), internal injuries (damaged organs), and detoxification.
It required magical particles with life-activating properties, among which plant-based and light-based magic were the most effective, with water-based magic being secondary.
Beyond these two foundational branches of healing, the advanced “Advanced Medical Studies” course would later cover topics such as nerve damage (soul injuries) and contamination treatment (treating mutated patients), among other high-level subjects.
Among them, “contamination treatment” was a newly added branch in the medical field in recent years. Although it had achieved breakthrough results, its research progress remained slow.
While waiting for class to start, a few more students arrived one after another. Janna counted—by the time “Introductory Medical Studies” began, there were twenty-four students. Among them, twenty were Third Tier Apprentices and four were Second Tier Apprentices. All were apprentices Janna wasn’t very familiar with.
“Tap tap tap—”
With the sound of late footsteps echoing from the entrance, a tall man nearly 1.9 meters in height, with a high nose bridge, slightly receding hairline, dressed in a black Wizard Robe and appearing to be around thirty years old, briskly walked up to the podium.
“There are more students here than I expected. Good afternoon, apprentices.”
“Good afternoon, Professor Anthony—”
Anthony-Rook, Principal of White Coral Academy, First Tier Undead Wizard, was rumored to be over one hundred and fifty years old, but based solely on appearance, he looked only about thirty.
His specialties included [Contract Studies], [Medical Studies], and [Mutation Studies], and he was also deeply knowledgeable in [Transfiguration].
He was an erudite wizard with a good temperament but was known for frequently being late.
“Among the apprentices from the past few years, there weren’t many good seedlings in [Medical Studies]—I hope your cohort doesn’t disappoint me.”
Hearing this, several Third Tier Wizard Apprentices sitting in the back scratched their heads awkwardly.
As repeat students who had failed the “Introductory Medical Studies” course in previous years, they were clearly the “disappointing seedlings” the principal was referring to.
“Luckily, the principal has face blindness.”
Thinking of this characteristic, the few repeat apprentices exchanged glances and collectively sighed in relief. “Alright, as usual, we’ll begin with a pre-class test. If you can pass it, it proves you have a talent in [Medical Studies]—if not, then don’t waste your time.”
As he spoke, Anthony-Rook opened his palm, and with a short incantation from his lips, a Rook completely formed from magic power, vivid and lifelike, appeared in the center of his right palm.
“This spell is my refined variation of [Wizard's Hand]. It can be considered a new spell, and I’ve named it [Shaping Spell]——you’ll try it now.”
No technical explanations, not even a second recital of the incantation—this was the principal’s usual rugged teaching style.
With a faint internal sigh, Janna also began attempting to cast the spell.
“Professor—may I ask, could you repeat the incantation?”
“No.”
Without even lifting his eyelids, Anthony-Rook flatly rejected the request of a female apprentice sitting diagonally in front of Janna.
The other apprentices, already used to Anthony-Rook’s teaching style, merely clicked their tongues quietly and refrained from provoking him.
“Shaping Manifest—”
As a crisp and clear incantation rang out, magic power gathered, and a bird-like creature with an emerald crown resembling a parrot appeared in Janna’s palm. However, it didn’t last long before it quickly disintegrated and dispersed back into magical particles, vanishing into the air.
“Hmm, good control, but lacking in stability. What’s your name?”
“My name is Janna Roland, Professor.”
“Keep it up. You need to maintain the shaping for at least thirty minutes to be considered passable—what are you all looking at? Get to work.”
Janna’s successful attempt on her first try not only caught the principal’s attention but also made the surrounding apprentices glance over at her.
Among them was the same female apprentice who had been denied the incantation—she turned back and gave Janna a grateful look.
“Thirty minutes, huh—”
Returning a kind smile to the front-row apprentice, Janna began contemplating the feasibility of maintaining the shaping for thirty continuous minutes.
“With my current magic power, maintaining it for twenty minutes isn’t a problem. The difficulty lies in proficiency...”
After identifying the root issue, Janna didn’t hesitate and immediately opened her Character Panel.
“System, upgrade [Shaping Spell] to the current maximum level.”
Swish—following Janna’s command, golden light flashed across the skill entry for [Shaping Spell].
“That should do it—”
