Chapter 496: 495: Not Enough To Take Me Down
"Heaven's Pulse."
The moment Zal'Zerael said these words, a massive floating storm heart appeared above the draconic abomination.
It was a sphere of condensed lightning and wind, and every two seconds, it unleashed omnidirectional shockwaves of lightning. Gravity was warped in the surrounding area of four hundred meters (400m), pulling everything toward it including Pamela.
Pamela's eyes widened as she felt the sheer scale of the attack and the massive force behind the gravity pull. Find your next adventure on empire
Her fingers moved and countless connected runes formed around her, and the gravitational pull that was affecting her vanished. However, the same could not be said for the lightning bolts of the floating storm-heart.
The bolts fell relentlessly, their impact creating craters that vaporized everything within their radius. Pamela darted between the strikes, her movements precise and calculated, but even with her speed and foresight, the storm was relentless.
One bolt grazed her shoulder, the energy coursing through her body and forcing her to grit her teeth in pain. She grabbed her shoulder and glanced at it, but this was a mistake she should not have made, and the moment Pamela glanced at her shoulder, she instantly realized that she had a mistake.
Before she could react, every single lightning bolt of Heaven's Pulse changed its direction and attacked her.
A series of translucent barriers formed around her, each one spinning and overlapping in a complex pattern. Luckily for her, her autonomous shield activated, and gave her just a second before it shattered to pieces.
Without hesitation, she teleported to the ground, far away from the sphere of influence of the massive storm-heart. Her breathing was slightly heavier as she placed a hand on her injured shoulder.
She forced a smirk, and then she spoke, "Okay, Zal. You've got some tricks. I'll give you that."
"Zal?"
Zal'Zerael was rooted on the spot the moment it heard what Pamela called it.
"Zal?"
It repeated once again with a tone filled with disbelief and denial. In its more than a thousand years of existence, none had ever called it 'Zal'.
It was Zal'Zerael, one of the Seven Deadly Powers of the Old Ones, and none had ever uttered or shown such levels of disrespect at it.
"Runic Overload."
Pamela's voice drifted into its ears, and then it glanced at Pamela. When it did, it finally realized that its instincts had been screaming at it, warning it of an incoming danger, but it had been too stunned by Pamela's words.
As it gazed at Pamela, it saw a fireball the size of her hand hovering above her hand. But in the blink of an eye, the fireball increased drastically, and it became as big as a football pitch and it was now glowing golden.
Zal'Zerael did not know why, but it found itself shifting its gaze from the massive golden fireball to Pamela's silver eyes.
The instant its gaze landed on Pamela's, it saw Pamela's lips move, but before her lips moved, the massive golden fireball moved.
"Catch."
The moment Zal'Zerael heard Pamela's words, the massive golden fireball was a meter from it.
The speed of the golden fireball was so fast to the point of being abnormal, and when Zal'Zerael observed the fireball, he noticed that the time and space around the fireball were being manipulated, and this made the fireball which was not meant to be fast to move almost as the speed of lightning.
However, despite the speed of the golden fireball, Zal'Zerael was able to react faster.
It slammed its massive claws into the earth, and then it summoned a Living Cyclone Veil around itself.
The Living Cyclone Veil was a constantly shifting cyclone of storms, and apart from being a defensive skill, it could reflect projectiles, shred melee attackers with high-speed winds, and randomly discharge lightning bolts in all directions. The cyclone itself was semi-sentient, it could adapt to threats and shift to counter enemy movements.
The massive golden fireball which was akin to a sun slammed into the Living Cyclone Veil, the shifting cyclone of storms was engulfed by a golden flame, and for a moment it looked like Zal'Zerael had made a terrible mistake.
The shifting cyclone of storms was no longer just a cyclone of wind and lightning, it was now a cyclone of wind, lightning, and flames. And with Zal'Zerael at the eye of the storm, it was looking like it would become engulfed by a combination of its skill and Pamela's.
However, a few movements later, Pamela saw her golden flames being 'spat' out of the cyclone in completely random directions.
Pamela's silver eyes flashed with a calculating light as she observed the Living Cyclone Veil, but when she saw the swirling vortex of wind and lightning expand outward, she was forced to retreat as the sheer intensity of the storm threatened to consume her.
Pamela furrowed her brows deeply when she realized that the cyclone wasn't just a defensive barrier, it was actively hunting her.
Pamela clenched her fists, summoning a Runic Gate to teleport herself to safety, but before she could activate it, Zal'Zerael appeared behind her.
"You cannot escape me," it growled, its voice a mixture of thunder and malice.
It raised one of its claws, glowing with crimson lightning sparks, and then it swiped at Pamela with blinding speed.
The attack connected, but Pamela's reflexes were also quick. An extremely thick barrier appeared between her and the claw, and a loud screeching sound resounded across the entire Raging Sky and beyond it.
In the blink of an eye, the barrier shattered, and the attack connected, sending her crashing into the ground with a deafening impact. Dust and debris filled the air, obscuring her form as Zal'Zerael hovered above, its massive wings crackling with power.
For a moment, there was silence. Then, from within the cloud of dust, Pamela's voice echoed.
"Damn, you hit like a truck."
The dust cleared, revealing Pamela standing amidst the rubble, her clothes torn and blood dripping from a cut on her cheek. Her eyes glimmered with determination as she raised her hand, summoning a new series of runes.
"But if you think that's enough to take me down," she said, her voice sharp and confident, "you've got another thing coming."
