Chapter 489: 488: Pamela's Scheme
(Approximately thirty minutes before Corey fell unconscious)
As Corey, Selene, and Aethara battled with their lives on the line, Pamela and Raegar stood before each other while floating in the air.
The distance between the two of them was less than fifty meters, and for beings at their level, such a distance was akin to a footstep for them.
Raegar stood in the air with his towering figure which had countless rune tattoos that glowed with a silver light along with the crimson bolts of lightning that streaked around his body made him seem like a god of war and lightning.
His red eyes which were filled with barely restrained anger and madness stared straight into Pamela's eyes that contained the symbol of infinity in them.
Meanwhile, Pamela had an indifferent expression as she stared at Raegar who held his massive greatsword by his side. Her black cargo pants and baggy sweatshirt with the symbol of infinity on it fluttered with the wind.
As the two Mystical Beings hovered in the air with the dark clouds above them and the countless bolts of lightning streaking across the sky, both Raegar and Pamela looked like deities that stood above all.
Both Pamela and Raegar gazed at each other for at least a minute, and then Pamela shifted her gaze into the distance, specifically where Corey, Aethara, and Selene were fighting.
Raegar noticed Pamela's gaze, and he also gazed in the direction of Corey, Selene, and Aethara.
Both of their pupils reflected the images of the trio clashing weapons and speaking.
When Raegar saw Corey kill his remaining soldiers with three poison balls, his eyes flashed with a crimson light of madness and rage, and he clenched his greatsword tightly.
He inhaled and exhaled deeply, and then he shifted his gaze toward Pamela. Seeing that Pamela was still observing the battle between Corey, Selene, and Aethara, Raegar frowned.
"Do you take me for a joke? Do you think you can stop me from killing that mortal Outsider?"
Pamela glanced with an indifferent gaze, and then she shifted her gaze back to the fight between Corey, Selene, and Aethara. Her brows furrowed slightly after a few seconds.
"Hush… Keep quiet… I want to concentrate on their battle."
Raegar's eyes widened slightly and he blinked multiple times with a stunned expression. It took him approximately three seconds to return back to his senses, and for a being like him, that was a long period of absentmindedness.
"Who were you talking to?"

Raegar asked, and Pamela's left eye twitched in annoyance.
"Attack if you want to attack and stop talking... You're distracting me… There's a reason I chose to fight you instead of her."
"What?" Raegar frowned in confusion when he heard Pamela's words, and Pamela sighed.
With an annoyed and irritated expression, she slowly looked at Raegar.
"Let me explain it with simple words so that you'd understand."
Raegar was stunned, and without replying to Pamela, he looked around, wanting to find the individual Pamela was speaking with.
However, he found none.
'It can't be me she's speaking to… right?'
Just as Raegar had this baffling thought, Pamela's voice drifted into his ears.
"From the moment you and that female warrior called Aethara appeared before us, the runes told me that she was more dangerous than you. Although I'd be able to defeat her at the end of the day, it would be more difficult compared to fighting you."
"To be honest, I was surprised that the runes would say such a thing... You're the clan head of the Anacletus clan, and you're an Ascendant, a being that is comparable to Tier 6s… Not only that, you're not an average Ascendant, you're a powerful and talented Ascendant, and with all of these, you should be more powerful than Aethara who is a Dreadkeeper."
"It just didn't make sense to me… But you see… I believe the runes… They never lie to me, and they're family to me… So, if the runes tell me that she is more dangerous than you, then she's more dangerous than you."
Pamela paused, and then she looked in the direction of Corey, Selene's and Aethara's battle. She raised her brows slightly after a few seconds.
"You see… I want to know more about… him… He's the most special and unique existence I've ever encountered in my life and I not only wish to become his friend because he's talented, I also wish… to study him."
A light smile appeared on Pamela's lips, and then she glanced at Raegar who had a stunned and bewildered expression.
"I wish to study his body, his anatomy, his powers, his skills, his fighting prowess, his personality, and every other thing about him… Unfortunately, the runes are telling me that unless I choose to back down or I find a compromise, the two of us would have to fight a battle to the death… that is if he survives his battle with Aethara… Though, I expect him to win."
Pamela's smile widened, but a second later, her head snapped in the direction of Corey, Selene, and Aethara.
Her eyes reflected the image of the severed head of Aethara, and a surprised and confused light flashed in her eyes before it turned to one of extreme surprise.
"Damn… She's really a monster."
Pamela mumbled softly, and then she glanced at Raegar. She saw him also looking in the direction of Corey, Selene, and Aethara with a deep frown on his face.
Pamela's otherwordly eyes flashed, and then she clapped. Raegar looked at her with a frown, and Pamela smiled.
"I was talking."
Without waiting for a response from Raegar, Pamela continued speaking.
"As I was saying, I wish to study him and become friends with him, but unfortunately… we'll have to fight after this."
A soft sigh escaped Pamela's lips, and then she shrugged nonchalantly.
"Because we'll soon have a fight, I decided to pair him up with Aethara so that she can push him to his limits and I can see more of his powers… It would be a shame if I lose to a Tier 2 despite his uniqueness."
"Fortunately for me, he doesn't know about Aethara's prowess and he agreed in a heartbeat… Although when I think about it, you'd also have been a difficult opponent for him."
Pamela stroked her chin for a few seconds, and then she shrugged.
"Mehh… I'll just push all the work to him, and if he dies, he dies… If he lives, we'll see what would happen if we eventually fight."
