Chapter 488: 487: Unconscious
As Aethara's head flew, Corey stared at it stoically, and he saw the frozen shock and disbelief in her eyes.
Thud! Thud!
Her head landed on the ground a few times, and then it came to a stop.
Corey stared at Aethara's head, and then he shifted his gaze to her body. His eyes moved to her severed neck, and when he saw crimson vines struggle to crawl out of her neck, his eyes flashed cold light and he took a step forward.
However, just as he took that step, the crimson vines trembled and stopped moving.
Corey paused with a slight frown on his face, and his pure white eyes glowed slightly as he gazed at Aethara's corpse.
He continued looking at it for a few more seconds, and then he shifted his gaze back to Aethara's severed head.
He stared at it for a full five seconds, and then he turned and looked at the massive Tree of Rot that was in flames and was slowly turning to ash.
He gazed at the crown of the tree and slowly looked down until he reached the withered roots and the depthless crater beneath the Tree of Rot.
Approximately ten seconds later, he shifted his gaze to the sky.
He saw the remnant streaks of crimson lightning, the dark clouds, the broken sky which resembled shattered glass, and the falling pure white spores of rot that made it seem like it was snowing.
Corey gazed at all of these with his pure white eyes, and then he looked back at the headless corpse of Aethara with a blank expression.
"I… survived… I… won."
Corey spoke with a soft tone that was filled with surprise, disbelief, suspicion, and even a tinge of confusion.
He raised his hands above his waist and looked at them with countless thoughts running through his mind. One of them was his recollection of how he had won.
One of the things Corey noticed after Aethara invoked her Imperium was that the Tree of Rot was connected to her and the Imperium.
Aethara and the Tree of Rot were deeply connected, and Corey had a feeling that if he could cause severe damage to the Tree of Rot, he would be able to weaken Aethara and maybe kill her.

This was what he planned on doing. Although he knew that most would say that targeting Aethara should be his main priority, Corey knew that targeting Aethara would be immensely difficult.
To accomplish this, Corey decided to use just two skills, Hexagon Nova Shield and Dreamfire.
When he used the skill evolution crystal to upgrade his Hexagon Barrier to Hexagon Nova Shield, his barrier skill gained some abilities.
One of them was the ability to adapt to the nature of the attack it faced.
Another was the ability to be hidden in another dimension but still have the ability to interact with the surroundings. This ability could not be sensed by even some Tier 5s.
Another was the ability to form constructs that could act as sentinels.
The most important was the ability of the barrier to be able to accumulate energy from the attacks it blocks, and whenever he wanted or when the limit was reached, he would be able to release the accumulated energy in a controlled nova blast.
The last ability was the main reason why his Hexagon Barrier changed to Hexagon Nova Shield, and it was this ability that Corey based his plans on.
When the crimson bolts of lightning and the horde of wooden abominations attacked him, Corey created countless sentinels that were hidden in another dimension, and he sent each of the sentinels to get destroyed under every lightning strike.
When the wooden abominations self-destructed, he created thousands of sentinels, and each of the sentinels was destroyed after the self-destruction of the wooden abominations.
Also, when he released the massive wave of Dreamfire on the horde of wooden abominations, he made sure that some sentinels also got destroyed by the attack.
Even his attack could be used.
Corey made sure that he continuously created more sentinels that slowly but surely adapted to the crimson bolts of lightning especially, and after Selene's death, he decided to execute the final stage of his plan.
Corey created a massive hexagon barrier around the Tree of Rot. This hexagon barrier was hidden, and it contained a tremendous amount of chaotic energy that was threatening to spill out.
If not for the fact that Corey's mind was unique, the Hexagon Nova Shield would not have been able to hold so much chaotic energy, however, with the help of his stars of consciousness and his main consciousness, he was able to store way more than the limit of the Hexagon Nova Shield.
Aethara had noticed the appearance of the Hexagon Nova Shield too late, and before she could react, the barrier exploded and released every single ounce of energy in it in the surroundings of the Tree of Rot.
This led to the current status of the Tree of Rot and the death of Aethara.
As Corey recalled all of these, he mumbled with a tone still filled with disbelief.
"I won."
Eventually, a light smile appeared on Corey's lips, and then he chuckled.
"Hehehe, I fucking won."
After Corey said these words, a wave of intense dizziness, nausea, weakness, pain, and headache hit him all at once, and Corey fell to his knees.
Cough!
Blood poured out of his nose, eyes, and mouth as he coughed. He covered his mouth with his hand, and then he coughed once again.
Corey swayed as he knelt, and he knew that his body was about to shut down, or to be more precise, go to sleep.
'Not yet.'
Corey gritted his teeth, and then his Eyes of Omniscience transformed into his Tri-Pupil Eyes.
His golden triangular pupils rotated in an anticlockwise direction, and Aethara's corpse which was in front of him vanished, along with the spear that was in her heart, his Genesis Armament that was beside him, and her sabers.
He looked towards Aethara's head, and he also stored it in the storage space of his Tri-Pupil Eyes.
Just as Corey was about to deactivate his Tri-Pupil Eyes, he suddenly had a wild thought, and at first, he wanted to ignore it, however, the madness and craziness in the thought stroked a certain feeling in his heart, and he could not help but grasp at the thought.
'Can I…'
Corey slowly turned, and then his gaze landed on the burning Tree of Rot in the distance.
'Can I store it in my current condition?'
His eyes flashed with a light of madness and desire, and then he grinned with his bloodied teeth.
"Let's try it."
Corey's voice was hoarse, extremely deep, and strained as he spoke. However, his gaze was just one of madness.
His golden triangular pupils glowed and rotated once again, and a second later, a massive black whirlpool appeared above the Tree of Rot. The whirlpool rotated slowly, and as it rotated, the burning Tree of Rot was slowly pulled into the whirlpool.
Corey groaned as blood poured from the sides of his eyes. The mental and physical strain he was feeling was immense, but due to his desire to not leave even a single loot of his battle to anybody, he pulled through and eventually stored the burning Tree of Rot in his Tri-Pupil Eyes.
The moment Corey did this, he wobbled, and a second later, he fell face flat into the ground and collapsed.
'Damn it… Pamela should defeat the head of the Anacletus clan right?... I might die out of anger if I die in the hands of that old fart because Pamela failed to kill him…'
After having this thought, Corey's eyes closed and then he fell unconscious.
