Chapter 487: 486: Aethara's Death
Corey had a weird sense of déjà vu as he heard Aethara's scream which was a mixture of primal rage and an anguished cry of despair. It was similar to the time Raegar screamed after he killed his soldiers with poison.
However, hers was much louder. It was louder than the scream of a banshee, and to Corey's surprise, it also had a beauty in it that seemed otherwordly and… forbidden?
'A fallen angel?'
Corey was baffled by these strange thoughts that came to his mind as he stared at the twisted and horrified expression of Aethara which was moving in slow motion in his perception.
'She's beautiful even when she's angry and terrified.'
BOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just as Corey had this thought, a cataclysmic explosion resounded across the Imperium. The barriers of the Imperium shook and the skies above were blown apart.
A titanic dustcloud and shockwave travelled across and beyond the Imperium in the blink of an eye, and Corey was blasted away far into the distance.
Corey cursed as he flew and tumbled an uncountable number of times on the ground, and while this was going on, an extremely loud shriek shook the Imperium.
This scream was much louder than Aethara's scream, and Corey groaned and covered his ears as he flew, tumbled, and crashed into the ground with a force that broke a lot of his bones.
"SKRRRAAEEEEGGGHHHHHKKKKKTTTT!!!"
Bang!
Corey crashed into the ground, and to his relief, he finally came to a stop.
"Damn it all man."
Corey cursed softly while coughing. He then slowly got to his feet, and then his pure white eyes turned to the source of the last scream.
His pure white eyes reflected the image of the Tree of Rot, however, unlike its previous terrifying, nightmare-inducing, and majestic appearance, its current appearance was nothing compared to what it was.
The tree was on fire, and this fire did not only have a red colour, it also had an azure, silver, and violet colour. Apart from these flames, thick crimson lightning bolts streaked across the Tree of Rot, turning some of its branches, leaves, and trunk to ash.
At the base of the titanic tree was a massive crater that seemed to have no end, and at the edges of this crater were the burning withered roots of the Tree of Rot.
The crimson eyes of the Tree of Rot withered, and for those that were still alive, Corey could see the pain, fear, horror, and despair in its eyes as it burned.
Corey observed the burning Tree of Rot for three more seconds, and then he shifted his gaze toward Aethara.
To his slight surprise, Aethara was not blown away and she remained in her spot. However, her condition was anything but good.
Corey could see that her wings were withering and falling, blood was pouring out of her eyes, nose, and mouth, the crimson vines on her body were also withering, and her right hand was decaying at a rapid pace.
However, despite all the injuries she had, Aethara remained on her feet.
Corey's eyes flashed when he saw this, and then he looked around. When he saw cracks appearing in the space in the sky and in the far distance, a slightly relieved light flashed in his eyes.
'Even with the injuries she has sustained, she's still maintaining her Imperium… But that works in my favour… Her Imperium should still be blocking the sight of those watching in the Underworld.'
Corey's Eyes of Omniscience transformed into his Tri-Pupil Eyes, and then he exhaled deeply. He stretched his right hand, and a second later, a whooshing sound flowed into his ears, and his axe flew straight into his hand.
The instant his Genesis Armament appeared in his hand, his golden triangular pupils rotated and then he vanished. What took his place was a large rock/
Meanwhile, Corey appeared behind Aethara, and the instant he did, his instincts screamed at him and he saw the edge of a black saber swinging towards his face.
Corey was not surprised or shocked by this since he expected this. He placed his axe in front of the saber, and just as he had expected, he was pushed back.
CLANG!
Corey slid to the back, and a joyful and relieved light flashed in his eyes when he noticed that he was not blown away like before, and he was able to maintain his balance.
'Her strength has been greatly weakened!'
Corey's eyes glowed with a cold light, and Aethara's voice which was filled with so much rage and killing intent that it almost overwhelmed him, resounded in his mind.
"YOU! YOU RUINED EVERYTHING! YOU'VE RUINED MY LIFE!"
"I'LL KILL YOU!!!"
Aethara screamed and then she dashed towards Corey at a speed that was even faster than most Tier 4s.
'Even with her injuries, she's still so fast and she can still move… What a monster.'
A light smile appeared on Corey's lips, and just as he smiled, Aethara appeared before him with the saber in her right hand aiming for his neck. Continue reading on empire
Corey's pure white eyes glowed, and with a calm expression, he parried her saber without taking a step back, however, blood poured out of his mouth and nose, along with the sound of the bones in his left hand cracking.
"Ahhhh!!!"
Aethara screamed in anger, and even with his parry, she swung the saber in her left hand towards the right side of his torso. However, Corey tilted his body to the left, raised his left leg and stepped on Aethara's saber, effectively stopping her attack by pushing it to the ground.
Aethara staggered to the front due to Corey's unconventional parry, and for a moment, it seemed like she was going to fall. However, she quickly balanced herself, but Corey's feet remained on her saber.
A ruthless and mad light flashed in Aethara's gaze and the rune tattoos on her body glowed for a second before they dimmed and Aethara coughed out a mouthful of black blood.
'Just as I expected… She's too injured to use chaos energy or her rune tattoos.'
The instant Aethara coughed. Corey's eyes flashed coldly, and then he swung his right hand at Aethara with his palms open.
As his right hand moved, a black spear appeared in his hand and with a roar, he stabbed the Ancient Spear into Aethara's heart.
It did not end there, Corey quickly grabbed his axe, spun, and then swung it at her neck.
THRUM!
His Genesis Armament howled, and with another roar along with a bright glow of his Eyes of Omniscience, he cut off Aethara's neck.
