Chapter 485: 484: Damn It
"I think I've watched enough."
The moment Aethara said these words, she casually swung the saber in her right hand toward Selene's unconscious body.
Just as the edge of Aethara's saber was about to touch Selene's neck, she disappeared and Corey appeared in her place.
Clang!
The sound of metal clashing against metal resounded, and Aethara's expression remained the same when she saw Corey appear before her.
Her piercing gold eyes gazed at Corey and his Genesis Armament with an indifferent gaze. She saw the coldness and calculating light in his eyes, and she also felt the subtle killing intent emanated. Find adventures at empire
However, none of this shook her or even caused her to change her expression. She indifferently shifted her gaze from Corey, and then her eyes landed behind Corey.
When she did, her gold eyes reflected the image of another Corey!
This Corey was the Corey that had appeared close to the root of the Tree of Rot!
"Although I already knew that this was an illusion, I just had to be sure because you and your abilities are beyond common sense.
Aethara slowly looked away from the Corey that was far away and stared into the pure white eyes of the Corey before her.
The edge of her saber and the blade of his axe were still clashing with one another, and though it seemed like nothing was going on or that they were evenly matched, this was far from the truth.
One just had to look at the protruding veins on Corey's trembling hands, arms, and neck, and then compare it to Aethara's fair and beautiful hands, arms, and neck that showed not a single sign of stress.
As Aethara stared into Corey's pure white eyes, the Corey that was far away slowly dissipated into a white fog.
Aethara tilted her head to the side with a tinge of intrigue and curiosity in her eyes, "Did you really think that I would not be able to see through your illusions… in my Imperium?"
A small cold smile appeared on Corey's lips, "I'm a Tier 2, I have to try everything I have… Who knows what might work and what might not work."
To Corey's surprise, Aethara rolled her eyes and scoffed.
"You're a Tier 2, but you have the power to defeat a Tier 5… Do you know how absurd that is?"
Corey chuckled, "I've been told."
Aethara casually took a step forward, and Corey groaned and took a step back with his knees almost buckling under Aethara's power.
"Despite how powerful I currently am and even though we're in my Imperium, I chose not to attack you myself until I had seen enough… I, Aethara… The Fallen Angel of Rot… The next Throne… chose not to attack you, a Tier 2… Do you know how unbelievable this sounds?"
"After invoking my Imperium, I was able to sense just how abnormal you are… Surprisingly, you are actually a Tier 2… However, your power is beyond that of mortals… Although it feels strange saying this… You were much stronger than me when I was at your level… You're like a god among mortals… and you almost defeated me."
A light smile appeared on Corey's lips, however, when one looked at his smile which was mixed with a struggling expression, one would notice that his smile was forced and extremely strained.
"Am I meant to be happy because you complimented me?"
Corey asked with a calm tone despite struggling to prevent Aethara's saber from piercing right through his body.
Aethara turned her head to the left, and when Corey noticed her line of direction, a cold light flashed in his eyes.
That was where Selene was.
"To be honest, you're actually meant to be happy that I'm complimenting you because I rarely compliment people."
Aethara turned towards Corey, and to Corey's surprise, a smile appeared on her lips.
"Since you killed my soldiers, I think I should kill your follower as payback."
Before Aethara even completed her sentence, Corey snapped his head toward Selene, and one of his fears came to pass.
Unlike what he hoped, Aethara did not go after Selene. Instead, she remained beside Corey and what attacked Selene was a root of the Tree of Rot.
A calculating glint flashed in Corey's eyes in less than a fraction of a second, and Corey's Eyes of Omniscience changed to his Tri-Pupil Eyes.
The triangle in both his eyes rotated, and Corey vanished.
A surprised light flashed in Aethara's eyes when she saw that what replaced Corey was not Selene but another black centipede.
'Interesting, so there was a centipede hiding on her body?' Aethara gazed at the centipede with an intrigued light, and then a smile appeared on her lips, 'So, he even made a plan for a situation like this?... What a cunning fellow.'
'I wonder what other unique abilities and plans he has… I'm sort of enjoying this fight.'
Aethara shifted her gaze from the black centipede to Corey who was swinging his axe toward the root that attacked Selene.
'Unfortunately, you both will die by my hands.'
The instant Aethara had this thought, the black centipede in front of her turned to ash and died.
Meanwhile, Corey stood before the root of the Tree of Rot, and with cold pure white eyes, he slashed at the root with the blades of his axe glowing with a multicolored light.
Thrum!
Corey's axe howled, and in the blink of an eye, his axe split apart the tree root.
When he did, Corey's paragon instincts screamed at him and a figure appeared behind him in his Eyes of Omniscience.
He quickly moved to the side, however, it was too late.
A black saber pierced through his chest and Corey looked down at his chest with a flicker of frustration in his eyes.
"Damn it." He cursed, and then blood poured out of his mouth.
"Wow… I'm genuinely impressed… Even with my speed, you were still able to move and prevent my saber from piercing right through your heart by just an inch… Your reflexes and senses are truly supernatural and beyond common sense."
Aethara's voice flowed into Corey's ears, and Corey turned back. He did not look at Aethara who was behind him, instead, his eyes were fixed on Selene, and just as he feared, she was dead.
A hole was in both her heart and neck, and he sensed no sign of life in her.
"Damn it."
