Silver Superman (Marvel)

Chapter 3: CH 3

At the manor gate:

"Ethan, can I still come to see you in the future?"

"And… I'd love to ask you some questions about your novels' plots."

Gwen tried to find a reason, afraid Ethan might refuse her request.

Discussing novel plots?

Ethan had no objections, especially when the one asking was a beautiful girl.

"Definitely. You can come by anytime as long as I'm home."

"Like I said, we're friends now."

"Then I'll head back to school first. See you next time!"

"See you next time."

Turning around, Gwen clenched her fists with excitement, unable to contain her joy.

"Yes!"

As soon as she stepped outside the manor, she felt lighter and more comfortable.

However, caught up in her excitement, Gwen subconsciously attributed this sensation to her good mood, not thinking much of it.

Watching her leave, Ethan smiled slightly.

As soon as Ethan stepped back into the house, his phone rang in his pocket.

"Hello, is this Mr. Ethan?"

"I am. Who's speaking?"

"Hello, I'm Pepper Potts, Head of Stark Industries."

Hearing the introduction, Ethan immediately knew who it was.

Pepper Potts… Tony Stark's trusted assistant.

But why would she call?

"What can I do for you?"

"Well, Mr. Ethan, since you're now the largest shareholder of Stark Industries, we'd like to invite you to tonight's company gala. Many of the attendees are also your fans."

"Would you be interested in joining us?"

Ah, so that's why…

Tony barely escaped death, and now they can't wait to celebrate. Classic Tony Stark.

"Of course. What time is it?"

Ethan never refused an invitation to eat, drink, and socialize—especially not one hosted by someone like Tony Stark, who knew how to throw a party.

"Seven o'clock. Would you like us to send a car to pick you up?"

"No need. I'll get there myself."

At that moment, Ethan heard a loud voice in the background:

"Come on, Pepper! Let me be his driver!"

Then came Pepper's scolding:

"Happy, that's rude!"

"Sorry, Miss Potts."

Pepper quickly returned to the call:

"My apologies, Mr. Ethan. That was Happy Hogan—one of our employees and a big fan of yours. But it seems you've declined the offer."

Ethan chuckled. Pepper really knew how to smooth things over.

"Alright, see you tonight."

"We look forward to seeing you, Mr. Ethan."

After hanging up, Ethan glanced at the time.

"Still got time. Might as well take a nap first, then get dressed."

On the rooftop of the manor, a lounge chair was perfectly positioned to soak in the sunlight.

As long as the weather wasn't cloudy, this spot was guaranteed to stay sunny until sunset.

"Ah… so comfortable…"

Ever since gaining the Silver Superman Template, basking in the sun had become more than just relaxing—it was energizing.

And sunscreen? Who needed that anymore?

"Hmm… I wonder if I'll get the chance to apply sunscreen on Gwen someday…"

That lazy thought drifted through Ethan's mind as he closed his eyes and dozed off.

Meanwhile, at Stark Tower:

Pepper Potts hung up the phone and glanced at Happy Hogan, giving him a pointed look.

"Sorry, Pepper."

The burly bodyguard scratched his head, realizing his earlier enthusiasm had been a bit too much.

Pepper sighed and turned to the man sitting on the sofa.

Tony Stark.

"Tony, I've confirmed the guest list for tonight's gala."

Tony, examining his reflection in a hand mirror, dabbed at a few scabs on his face.

"You wouldn't believe how crazy those reporters were. One of their microphones almost went straight into my mouth."

Happy quipped from the side, "Just like how you used to treat those actresses every night."

Silence.

Both Tony and Pepper turned to stare at Happy.

"…I'll, uh… go fill up my car. Can't be a driver with an empty tank!"

Without another word, Happy hurried out of the office, not daring to look back.

As the door closed, Tony quickly tried to defend himself:

"Pepper, you heard him—that was before."

Pepper simply raised an eyebrow.

She remembered those nights better than Tony did—mainly because she had to deal with the aftermath every single time.

"Tony, I need to get changed now. You know how long it takes women to get ready for a gala."

Tony stood from the sofa.

"Of course. I'll wait for you, Pepper."

Pausing at the doorway, Pepper glanced back at him.

"Wait until I'm done, and help me choose a dress for tonight."

"Definitely. I've always been good at that."

As Pepper left, Tony stretched out a hand as if to stop her, but J.A.R.V.I.S.'s voice interrupted him.

"Sir, Miss Potts has left. It's time for your chlorophyll supplement."

"Thanks for reminding me again, J.A.R.V.I.S.…"

"You're welcome, sir."

Tony sighed. He swore this AI had developed a sense of humor.

"J.A.R.V.I.S., how's the progress on finding a substitute element?"

"No new single-element alternatives have been found. Shall I begin testing combinations of elements next?"

Listening to the report, Tony walked over to his desk, pulled out a small device, and pressed its needle against his thumb.

A sharp sting made him wince slightly.

The device's screen displayed a percentage:

9%

Tony managed a faint smile.

"Good news, J.A.R.V.I.S. We've still got some time."

But J.A.R.V.I.S. wasn't about to let him relax:

"Sir, continued use of the Mark armor will accelerate the palladium poisoning process. I recommend refraining from using the armor until a replacement element is found."

"…Where's my chlorophyll?"

"On the table in the basement, sir."
