Silver Superman (Marvel)

Chapter 2: CH 2

The experience of picking up a "corpse"…

Even before, Ethan had only heard of the term but had never experienced it firsthand. And besides, wasn't "corpse picking" supposed to happen at night? Who picks up a "corpse" in broad daylight?

Could this be some kind of prank?

It wasn't surprising that Ethan had his suspicions. After all, he was considered a semi-public figure with a huge fanbase.

At a previous book signing event, he had encountered a girl who pretended to faint just to fall into his arms. Some extreme fans would go to even crazier lengths.

But the blonde girl in front of him wasn't faking it.

Thanks to the "Exquisite Medical Skills" he had obtained from the system, Ethan could tell at a glance whether someone was genuinely unconscious or not.

She had simply fainted—there was no danger to her life. In fact, her breathing was steady, and she appeared to be in excellent health.

"Well, I can't just leave you out here. Someone else might actually pick you up."

Ethan smiled helplessly, knelt down, and carefully carried the blonde girl into the manor, placing her gently on the living room sofa.

Her body was soft and delicate…

Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, Ethan returned to his room.

Being an author, no matter how wealthy he was, he still adhered to his principle of updating his works on time.

After all, in his previous life, he had despised authors who suddenly abandoned their works without warning. Ethan swore never to become one of them.

Roughly an hour later, the blonde girl's eyebrows furrowed as beads of cold sweat appeared on her forehead. She looked like she was trapped in a nightmare.

But then, her eyes suddenly shot open.

Her vision was filled with an unfamiliar room, leaving her momentarily dazed.

"Where… am I?"

As she processed her surroundings, Ethan descended the staircase, having just finished his latest manuscript.

"You're awake," he said casually.

Startled, the blonde girl turned her head toward the voice, her eyes widening as she saw Ethan approaching.

"You fainted outside the gate of my manor," Ethan explained. "So I brought you in. How are you feeling now—"

Before Ethan could finish, the girl nervously interrupted him.

"Mr. Ethan! My name is Gwen Stacy. I-I'm a huge fan of yours!"

Gwen Stacy.

Ethan's heart skipped a beat.

It can't be…

Is she really that Gwen Stacy?

Meanwhile, Gwen's face was flushed red with embarrassment. She hadn't expected to faint at the doorstep of her idol's house—let alone be carried inside by him!

Just imagining that scene made her cheeks burn even hotter. Given her naturally fair skin, the redness was even more noticeable.

Watching Ethan walk closer, Gwen wished she could disappear into the floor.

"Ugh, I'm so dead. Why did I have to ring that stupid doorbell…"

"Here, have some water," Ethan said, handing her a glass.

"Thank you."

Gwen quickly took a sip, realizing just how thirsty she was after being unconscious for so long.

"Thank you for saving me, Mr. Ethan."

"That's the third time you've thanked me in less than five minutes," Ethan chuckled. "I'm more curious about why you fainted outside my manor in the first place."

Gwen nervously avoided his gaze.

He's so handsome…

Even better-looking than the photos online…

"I don't know what happened," she admitted. "The moment I passed your gate, I suddenly couldn't breathe… Then I blacked out right after ringing your doorbell."

She quickly added, "But I know it has nothing to do with you, Mr. Ethan! Please don't misunderstand—"

"Relax, I didn't take it that way." Ethan smiled. "By the way, which school do you go to?"

"I'm a student at Empire State University. You actually came to our campus for a book signing once, but… I wasn't in New York at the time, so I missed it…"

Her shoulders drooped slightly with regret.

Empire State University.

Hearing the name of that school confirmed Ethan's suspicions.

This blonde girl was indeed the Gwen Stacy—the future girlfriend of Spider-Man, Peter Parker.

But right now, Peter hadn't become Spider-Man yet. Ethan hadn't seen any news about a masked vigilante swinging through the streets of New York.

In fact, the only Stacy he had heard about so far was George Stacy, Gwen's father, who often appeared on TV as the New York Police Captain.

"While you were unconscious, I did a quick check on your condition," Ethan explained. "Your vitals looked fine, so I think it might have just been a case of sudden anemia."

After all, most women experienced periods of low iron levels every month, so fainting from anemia wasn't uncommon.

"Y-You checked me…?" Gwen's eyes widened slightly.

Wasn't Ethan a novelist? How did he know how to perform a medical checkup?

Wait…

"Body checkup"…?

Her face turned redder than ever as her imagination ran wild.

S-So he… touched me while I was unconscious?!

Ethan noticed her expression and quickly clarified, "Don't get the wrong idea. I only checked your pulse and general condition—nothing else."

"O-Oh! Right, of course… Thank you, Mr. Ethan."

For a moment, Ethan thought he detected a hint of disappointment in her tone, but he must have imagined it.

"By the way, Mr. Ethan… Could you sign this for me?"

Reaching into her backpack, Gwen pulled out a copy of Harry Potter and handed it to Ethan with a hopeful smile.

"Of course! It's always a pleasure to sign for a beautiful reader."

Ethan signed his name on the title page with a smooth flourish.

"Thank you so much!" Gwen clutched the book against her chest like it was the most precious treasure in the world.

"Since we know each other now, there's no need to call me 'Mr. Ethan.' Just call me Ethan," he said warmly.

"Alright, Ethan," Gwen replied, her smile growing brighter.

"But only if you call me Gwen," she added playfully.

"Deal, Gwen," Ethan replied with a grin.
