Reverend Insanity: The Goody Two-Shoes System

Chapter 119: Lightning Lycan King: Part Five

"Hold the line," Fang Yuan instructed. "I need time to replenish my primeval essence."

Out of the four attacking groups of wolves, he had already crippled one, and his primeval essence was around 20% at this time.

He used up primeval stones without care, his essence rapidly growing back to its peak before he sailed out into the air again.

Just like this, he sallied forth and beheaded the leader of another group of wolves, as well as several of their stronger members which the other Gu Masters were having difficulty dealing with.

"Lord Fang Yuan, please reinforce us!"

"Lord Fang Yuan, the southwest section is nearing collapse!"

"Lord Fang Yuan, one of these Hundred Beast Kings has over four Rank 2 gu worms! Please get rid of it!"

Cries like this arose as people saw how Fang Yuan was fighting.

"Giving him those wings was not a mistake then," the clan head muttered. He was still lying in reserve, watching what was going on in case the Thunder Crown Wolf or the Lightning Lycan King made its move. In ordinary circumstances he would be unable to do much if the walls were breached, and could only rely on people like Qing Shu to possibly use Wood Charm Gu to hold the line.

However, Fang Yuan had greatly surpassed what Qing Shu could accomplish even with the Wood Charm Gu. While it was said that two fists cannot rival four palms, there was a great difference in the strength of Gu Masters between ranks. Fang Yuan could fly out like a fighter jet, destroying the enemy's most valuable pieces and removing them from the board. With the Thousand Beast Kings removed from the equation, and many of the Hundred Beast Kings as well, the elders could act and mow down the ordinary wolves like wheat before a farmer's scythe.

'It looks like we might weather this storm after all,' he thought to himself.

However, before Fang Yuan could go and assault the third group of wolves, a group of howls erupted far in the distance.

Fang Yuan was one of the first to spot what was going on from his perch in the air.

"Reinforcements! Enemy reinforcement are arriving!"

The clan head got up from where he was seated. Fang Yuan was right, a large group of wolves was coming towards their village.

"I think there's a Thunder Crown Wolf among them!"

"The Lightning Lycan King might be with them!"

"Damn it, when it looked like things were under control!"

"Where did so many of them come from?"

"The direction that they're coming from... isn't that where the Xiong village is?"

It took the elders a moment to ponder what the implication of that was.

"Could it be... that the Xiong village was completely wiped out?"

That seemed to be the most logical explanation as to why so many wolves were now rushing here, and why they hadn't been here at Gu Yue village before.

But... the idea was difficult for everyone present there to wrap their heads around.

The Xiong clan had lasted for a thousand years! Had they really been annihilated like this?

While they were rivals to the Gu Yue village, it was also true that the village needed them to deal with a portion of the wolf tide.

But there was a bigger concern- the Xiong Clan, despite being the weakest clan, still had some hidden trump cards. An ancestor, or a Rank 5 gu worm that they could use partially... if all of these measures had failed to save them, what would become of Gu Yue village?

"Those useless Xiong Clan idiots! Couldn't they have stalled the wolves for at least some time?"

"They used to scream and beat their chests about how strong they are, hmph, look at them now! Nothing but food in the wolves's gullets!"

Fang Yuan knew there was no point in bleating about and complaining like that. If anything, he needed to deal with these other two wolf groups as soon as he could before the reinforcements could arrive.

However, as he was about to be done with the third group, a wolf larger than even an elephant emerged from the woods.

Thunder Crown Wolf! A Myriad Beast King, which had been lying in wait for a chance to spring!

It roared and a shockwave emerged, moving at Fang Yuan. This was a sound-type attack, though Fang Yuan was able to swerve and duck out of the way. He drifted closer and closer to the Thunder Crown Wolf, whose full attention was upon him.

As it leapt up, Fang Yuan folded his wings once more, allowing himself to plummet down to earth, and then striking the Thunder Crown Wolf at its underside.

It would've been a fatal blow in normal circumstances, but it only cut through about a third of the wolf's abdomen. It clearly had a defensive-type gu worm.

'For this circumstance, something like the Rank 4 version of the Blood Moon Gu would be better,' he thought. However, he had exhausted most of his primeval essence and would be in a bind if he kept fighting like this. 'If only I had the Yellow Golden Relic Gu right now, or someone like Qing Shu to fortify another one of the gates...'

The Thunder Crown Wolf could only gnash its teeth as Fang Yuan made his way back to the village.

"Were you able to get it?"

Fang Yuan shook his head. "It's injured, but it is not dead."

And just then, the words that no one wanted to hear echoed from another part of the battlefied.

"It's here! The Lightning Lycan King is with the reinforcements!"

"So that's why the Xiong clan fell, huh? Because of the strategy of the Lightning Lycan King!"

"Damn it... if that group beat the Xiong clan, how can we fight it off alongside the other wolves we're already dealing with?"

Despair began to creep around the Gu Masters of the Gu Yue clan. The force that was nearly upon them had wiped out one of the three clans of Qing Mao mountain which spoke to its strength. Could they truly stand up against such a foe?

Fang Yuan frowned. How was it that the Xiong clan had failed? This did not line up with his memories, so it would be the butterfly effect taking root. But, he could not recall doing anything that would greatly weaken them.

"All of you, calm your hearts! Naturally, if the reinforcements had to defeat the Xiong clan to get here, they are weakened and exhausted. And we've almost taken care of our side of the fighting as well. We also have two Rank 4 Gu Masters. Commit yourselves to the clan, we will get through this!" the clan head said.

He had gotten up and was ready to head out into battle himself. Although this words were met with cheers from the Gu Yue clansmen, he felt a deep terror within his heart that he could only barely suppress. As the clan head, he had to maintain a brave face, or all chaos would indeed break loose.

He glanced over at Fang Yuan, who was using primeval stones, but his essence would not be replenished in time for the two of them to deal with the Thunder Crown Wolf.

With two Rank 4 enemies on the battlefield, they would likely need to split up to deal with each of them. However, the threat of the Lightning Lycan King dwarfed that of the Thunder Crown Wolf. The natural solution was for both of them to fight the Lightning Lycan King together, but that left them vulnerable from another side.

Needless to say, the situation did not look good.
